Young Calorie Counters Should I get a dude on line? Feb 26 2009

I met my husband on Match.com.  I met a lot of people and had fun dating.  I learned a lot about myself and what I really wanted (this is did not figure out until after one bad marriage and 36 years of living-hopefully you'll catch on sooner).  He's the most amamzing man I've ever met in my life.  Just be smart about it, it can be worth it.  More and more people use on-line dating and get married!

The Lounge problems with acne anyone? because i do Feb 21 2009

Hi-This is such a terrible problem, but you can get rid of it.  I think you need to find our why you get it.  Is it hormonal or not.  If its hormonal then the birth control pill can work for you.  Sounds like you're still in school so I don't know what your parents might think, but it is a valid use of the pill.  I use YAZ and it really helps.  But sometimes I still broke out.  I tried everything before to clear up my tough case.  Over the counter, TV products you name it, perscription acne stuff, but nothing really worked.  My doctor carries a line called Glytone.  Its amazing and I rarely break out now.  So that's my advice for a working combination for hormonal acne, the pill and glytone!

Good Luck!

1.  Its great to use on a machine because it tells you how many calories you burned while working out.

2.  You don't wear it when you sleep, the program assumes you burn about a calorie per minute when sleeping

3.  I assume if you're really burning more calories while sick it would track that.

4.  I think it would be hard to use it on more than one person at a time, because its based your height and some other factors you tell the accompanying program

5.  Yes a person who's not over weight can wear it, you just have to fool with the velcro strip to make it the right size.

I bought a used one off of ebay.  I had a few problems getting it set up, but its been worth it (although sometimes depressing how few calories I actually burn).

I'm bummed

Last week 127.2

This week 126.8

lost only .4

The kicker here is I was down to 125.4 on Friday, I saved my calories all day so we could go out for my husband's birthday dinner.  I tracked my calories and ate what I burned but didn't go over.  The next day I was up to 127.2, now I'm only down to 126.8!!  I know, I know, I shouldn't weigh myself everyday because of fluctuations, and I'm retaining water because of TTOM.  I'm just bummed to fluctuate that much.  Why can't the 125.4 be today?

God that sounds so familiar, except I kept running and still gained 10 pounds back from my last successful weight loss of 13 pounds.  I'm almost back where I started.  What the hell was I eating that I kept running and still gained?  I got a new job that goes at an insane pace.  I take home work, come in on weekend, just to keep my head above the water.  Damned these jobs that get in the way of my good habits!

My motivator, my pants are tight again and I refuse to buy new ones.  So job be damned I need to get in the drivers seat again.  I just joined the "be realistic lose 10 pounds by the end of March" string.  Come along and join us!

I'm 38, 5'.5" (that half inch counts LOL) 130 pounds.  I want to be 120 by the end of March!  Maintaining is the problem, but I'll worry about that when I get there!

Good luck!

Fitness Questions about treadmill workout, please help! May 13 2008

Hi-

I am in no way knowledgable about the mechanics of all of this, but I do know what works for me.  I'm 5 feet, 37 years old, and recently went from 134 to 121.  My work out is running on the treadmill.  I do about a 10 minute mile now (6 mph), but when I started I was running a 15-12 minute mile.  I run and either do one of two things.  I either increase the speed .1 mph every 15 second until I get to 7 mph from 5 mph.  I hover for a minute when I get 5.5, 6, and 6.5 mph.  Then I back it down .1 mph until I get back down to a comfortable pace.  OR I run for one minute at 7 mph, one minute at 6 mph, and one minute at 5 mph, continually rotating.  It makes the time go faster, keeps my body guessing, and adds some sprints in there.  I figure if they do sprints on the biggest loser then I should be doing them too!

Hope that helps, for what its worth.

When my little one was three I got him a hippity hop and I got a po-go ball.  Its a disk with a big rubber ball in the middle.  Jump around on that for a while.  great exercise.  Wink

Oh and one of my all time favorites is to take him to the playground and start a game of tag.  It really gets your heart rate up, all those sprints chasing those whipper snappers around!

Holy crap I did level 2 last night after I ran two miles.  It kicked my butt!  I was sweating like a piggy.  I typed in aerobics and used high intensity for a half hour.  I picked that because of the sweat factor and my heart rate.  It was up there as if I was running.

For me, I kept trying on a pair of pants that caused me to diet in the first place.  I couldn't fit into most of my pants and I refused to buy new ones. So week after week I kept trying them on and eventually they fit!  Now they are baggy.  Now my goal is to fit into a pair of pants I purposely bought one size smaller than those pant.  Of course trying on all the summer clothes that were snug last year and are not now has been fun too.

Weight Loss can you tell me what my correct cal count needs to be?? Apr 20 2008
02:43 (UTC)

Hi-

We're kind of the same I'm 5'0 and weighed 134 when I started.  I'm down to 121 as of today.  I stayed under 1500/day.  Sometimes I would zig zag my week.  When I zig zagged that meant two random days in the week I'd be at 1000 calories and then the remainder of the week I'd be at 1200-1400.  I ran 3-4 miles five days each week followed by twenty minutes of floor exercises.  I run on a treadmill and incorporate sprints into the run.  I also incrementally increase the speed (.1 mile per hour every 15 seconds) or do one minute at 7 mph, then another at 6.5 mph, and then another at 6 mph, then back up to 7.  I started on January 22.  I've lost 1 to 2 pounds per week, sometimes 3.  Some weeks I would gain weight too, for no reason, but the next week I'd be down again.  Its taken awhile but its worked overall.

Hang in there, sometime your body just doesn't get it right away.

27 is not too young at all.  I enrolled in an adult gymnastics class at age 35!  It was so much fun.  Luckily we had a lot of interest so there were at least 8 women and 2 men in the class.  It was a riot.  I got busy with other things so I ended up quitting the class.  If I find the time again I'd enroll in a minute.  What a work out.  I had amazing tone in my arms and legs.  Good luck and go for it.

Health & Support birth control pills: is skipping non-active pills healthy? Feb 28 2008

I've done it before.  You essentially skip periods which is wonderful!!!!  They've tested it and its safe to go up to three months.  You have a to keep a few things in mind.  One you have to build up to the three months.  If you have break through bleeding, then you should stop taking the pill and have your period.  Each time you'll go longer between periods.  Two you can get messed up with your insurance if it your script isn't written so that you can skip periods.  Your insurance company won't pay for it if you come to early to get your next dose.
