I just wanted to say "hey" and further support the others who have said..GO. Yes, just go...I married at 19 and totally chose the wrong person...because I wasn't even a fully developed person emotionally or mentally myself. Ignore those that are calling you "stupid". There are women who are a lot older who have put up with even more ridiculous things...you are young..ignorant perhaps, but not stupid. I hope you dump him, get your life in order and go to school for something that you will love doing for the rest of your life. Take care.

But for citizens, we must prove our income to show that we truly need the help. I think the sliding fee scale in this program that is normally applied for US citizens should also be applied to undocumented aliens. That would be fair. They are working here...supporting their families, and buying cars and houses.

I hope Mr.Obama digs in on a national heath plan. I really do.

There are PLENTY of children that have no health care insurance, medicaid or even the CHP plan because of income requirements. I am sure the numbers exceed 15% in our district. Too "rich" to get help, but too poor to afford to pay cash to go to the doctor. As a single mom, I was there myself. It was impossible to get help.

I am just wondering why some people have more rights than others. I wasn't trying to say that children should DIE. I am just saying that it should be an equal opportunity.

Youre asking if its "fair" for sick kids to live?

...Nope, the fact that their parents snuck them into the US clearly takes away their right to life. Let them die.

...Although when it comes to frozen embryos OMG save them!

I never talked of saving frozen embryos. I think I only argued that people had the right to be against stem cell research. DUH. But whatever snarky dig you can get in that has nothing to do with this subject...go right ahead. :)

Well, I guess they have more rights than the kids who are poor and were born here. If they are going to take care of kids...they should take care off ALL the kids who need help. Not just a select group.

Chew on that.

I think "Octo-mom" knows that when you invite people into your life...you've also invited unwanted criticism. Yeah. She's nutty. But I know other nutty people too. People who do not have much money and adopt several children from diverse backgrounds..some with disabilities. That's crazy. I know people who attend college for four years plus who want to teach kids who do not respect them, parents who behave the same way....for a paltry salary and not many claps on the back for doing so. I am not saying that her situation is exactly the same, but in all three instances, these people have some notion that their contributions are important. I don't care who gives her money, as long as the babies...and her other kids are well cared for and loved. She will be raising them under a microscope....she screws up and everyone is going to be right on her ! More than I can say for many, many OTHER crazy parents who should have never reproduced...and can neglect and abuse their kids without so much as a peep from anyone until it gets really bad. She is the least of our worries right now in our society.

the only reason i can think of to be afraid to speak your mind is that you don't know what you're talking about.  it that's the case, then--yeah--call it bravery. or whatever.

Gee..what could you point out specifically and logically, without crude and disparaging remarks....that I "do not know what I am talking about" in this thread? Opinions are not fact...they are opinions, and like sphincters...everyone has one.

I also find it very egocentric that you thought I was even thinking about you in the "pack of hungry dogs" comment.  That's funny.

you're kidding, right?  you and i disagree about everything.  so which one of us is "brave" and which is a hungry dog?  huh?

I really do not think I actually considered....or thought about you when I made that statement.  (Sorry to dissapoint you. ) It's always been pretty clear about where you stand. I am happy to leave you well enough alone. And on this subject, I really haven't taken a side or stance, just pointing out how one-sided this "debate" was. I loved how the snotty sperm and egg references happened as well....cuts to the people who might think life begins at conception...and they did not even post here ! No worries..they will not be posting on this thread. I just think everyone has the right to be heard and respected. Some here just like to be snide and rude whilst trying to prove their point. To learn and consider and to broaden ones thought-processes takes listening from both sides. Both sides.

I like the "huh?" At the end of your post...it totally encompasses the essence of your arguments.

Kisses !

Well, perhaps the people who value their genetic material will keep procreating, and the people who think that their embryos are a primordial sludge will let science dissect it and use it...and eventually the people who have more live children running around...whom they have raised and influenced with their way of thinking, will eventually be in the majority of thought.

Scary eh?

Why do you ASSume it's some sort of "bravery" issue, and not people sincerely saying what they think? I don't have a single fear of stating my view of anything, least of all on a message board. Ask any of the anti-choicers or anti-feminists on here.

She said she was "more impressed"...I don't think that gives a note of superiority.

I believe that people who have lost 100 plus pounds have something going for them...if you can do that, you can do most anything. I know what dedication it took for me to lose 30. Obesity is simply an outward show of a weakness that other people can quickly identify, and sometimes they treat the person shoddily...with no good reason. I guess it's more of a character identifier if you see someones shortcomings and you zone in on them and make fun of them...  or have a superior attitude....it shows you have a lack of compassion, a far more troubling flaw than the other persons BMI.

I don't think the problem is with the semantics....if they meant Congress, if they were or were not being racial intentionally...the emotional response to the cartoon without reading very deeply into it is that they are saying something about the president. That alone should have made them refrain from printing it. Not only that...the tragic story about the chimp in the news is in no way funny. Not one bit. They have also combined the octuplet story with the stimulus package and Obama in political cartoons. Somehow this isn't the same is it?

In today's society it's unusual, but in agrarian societies of the past it wasn't at all strange for people to be married and popping out kids at the age of 16 and under.

Today we tend to put kids into a permanent state of adolescence that lingers for a long time, sometimes lasting well into their 30s. Back in the day, there were more clearly defined boundaries between when someone was meant to be treated as a child and when to be treated as an adult. Because those rites of passage are essentially removed now, there's a general perception that these proto-adults are still children until some arbitarily decided age.

... but back in the day, I guarantee you that 13 year old would have known every aspect of how to operate a farm, including how to populate it with some of his own offspring to help out.

FWIW, it's not unusual for 13 year olds to have sex. It's unusual for progeny to result as most young women recognize they're ill equipped to deal with a child.

But back in the day . . . life expectancy was only 39 (in 1850).  You were middle aged by the time you were 20, so you had to start popping kids out younger.

As education in a society increases, so does the life expectancy and the age at which people have children.  Conversely, the birth rate decreases because you don't need 10 children to help run the farm any more.  So comparing modern day London to an agarian society is comparing apples and cows.

Well, conversely, one doesn't actually need 14 children NOW either...maybe we need to get that octuplet mom her own FARM. She could milk cows and plant veggies...and her kids could learn self-sufficiency as well !!!

Back to the subject....

My son is 22. He is definitely not mature enough to be a father yet. And NO...we did not " infantilize"him. Just because one has the equipment...doesn't mean he or she is ready to be a parent. I really hope that IF Alfie is indeed the biological father, that they do not try to make him a "daddy". What kind of damage could that do? Having a parent who could be your sibling? Actually, I know some mothers who had their children at 14. They aren't doing such a good job. How could they? They still needed parenting themselves.

I think you are looking at the sittuation wrong....

You are the teacher, its your job to help raise these kids (teachers are a big part of a childs life).... because its such a young age, you are getting them before the system filters them (like you wont find a kid acting like that in higher education). The child obviously is having lots of trouble in his life if he is trying to get kicked out.... maybe he is having trouble at home? Maybe something else is going on? But its your job to help them (all of them, not just the good kids who come from good homes and have been raised well).

Talk to the kid. Find out whats going on. Ignore the insult because it means nothing, its just him lashing out from other problems going on. Figure out what needs to be done to help the kid move on with his life...or help him understand what his options are....

Teachers arent just robots who read a book mindlessly to the students in their class. You are there to help them develop and learn a wide range of things. YOU are the adult and YOU have your stuff together.... you arent their equal, you arent just one of the kids, you are a mentor and a person who is in a possition to really guide how these kids end up as they pass through those early years.

If you didnt want to put up with developing people ...you should get out and find a job where you just deal with people who are already matured (IE, not lower education).

Lorik, unless you have been a teacher...you can't possibly understand what an insurmountable amount of CRAP that teachers have to dig through just to get to the core job of teaching ! We have first year teachers who try to become the mushy-couselor/caring types and they end up being chewed up and spit out..by either the parents or the administration. The administration wants the students to be academically strong...(if you are wasting the entire classes time counseling a wayward child, you are robbing the other kids of their instructional time.) So much of our staffs time is taken up by discipline that it leaves less and less time to teach the kids who's parents have taken the time to teach them those things AT HOME....rather than leave it entirely up to the school. And with the pay that teachers get...I'd say telling them to get another job might be wise. But who is left who wants to deal with the garbage? It starts at home. You cannot raise a little jerk with no manners and then expect to send them to school and let teachers fix it.

Perhaps that is what is wrong with society in general. The attitude that it is someone elses job to fix your problems.

I dunno. Why ever tell her? Just have random same-sex affairs, lie and deceive her. She probably deserves it anyways for not having some innate instinct to recognize that you are gay ! It's her fault. Dumb be-atch. She was soooo stupid to have children with you and marry you ! SHE is the jerk.

As a side-note...just because you aren't yet being physical with another person..(male or female) doesn't mean emotional affairs and attachments aren't cheating.)

Another question....why would Alfie be sleeping over in the same bed as some girl at his age? Good grief !
