You should be aware that this stuff does still have fat and calories. The serving size is just so small that there isn't enough to "count" for the labeling purposes. |

I love rooibos, which is a red herbal tea. It comes in regular and lots of flavors. I order mine from Adagio online but I'm sure you can find it elsewhere too. |

Heh, I have noticed the same thing. Or if I am laying on my side with my knees together they'll feel like the bones are poking each other, and that's uncomfortable too. I haven't figured out any way to make it better, though. But you aren't alone. |

I made some falafel with mine a while back and it turned out really well. I used this recipe http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Vegan-Friendly-F alafel/Detail.aspx with parsley instead of cilantro. I bake/broil mine instead of frying. Using a whole pound of beans makes a LOT though, so especially if you haven't tried it before I would make half what it calls for.

Well, it's truthful in that it says the book published in 1918 says that. It is a bit misleading that it just lets that stand alone without any mention of its accuracy, though. |

| Vegetarian | Soup! | Oct 28 2008 20:45 (UTC) |

Amusing (to me, at least) soup story: A week or so ago I got to thinking, "Hey, if black bean soup is really good, and split pea soup is really good, then black bean split pea soup would be REALLY good." So I made some. I diced a whole onion and some carrot, softened that in some olive oil and added about a cup and a half of soaked dried black beans and probably about a cup and a half of dry split peas. I added water to cover and cooked until the beans were soft and the peas had disintegrated, adding a vegetable boullion cube just before. I then seasoned with some cumin, salt, garlic and a dash of cayenne. It tasted amazing. But it looked ... well, kind of like poop, to be quite honest. I think next time I'll have to try cooking the split peas and black beans separately, then rinsing the beans and hoping that gets rid of the blackness of the liquid. I was too embarrassed to let my co-workers see it when I brought it in for lunch But man, it tasted so good ... |

There is nothing wrong with olive oil. We all need healthy fats. Just measure and don't use gobs of it. |

The best answer is get a food scale. But in the meantime, do you not have measuring cups/spoons? You should get in the habit of measuring everything instead of eyeballing if you are looking for accuracy. That way you would know you used, say, 3/4 cup of peas, or a teaspoon of oil. Although obviously you can't measure things like slices of turkey in a measuring cup. |

Also, the Jack-O-Lantern type pumpkins aren't the same kind that are usually eaten. Though the taste/texture wouldn't be radically different than normal with those ... if you did use the stringy parts, though, that definitely explains it. |

I saw an episode of The Truth About Food where they tested a person who thought she had a slow metabolism because she was overweight despite "eating very little" and a thin person who assumed hers was very fast because she said she ate chips and sugary foods all the time. They gave them both a special kind of water that costs ~$1,000 per bottle that somehow keeps track of what they eat by testing their pee. So it's not as far off as you might think ... And I found a link because I know that is really hard to believe: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sn/humanbody/truthaboutf ood/slim/fatthin.shtml |

Once when I was at a hockey game I was in a stall, and I heard a man's voice saying, "I think you're in the wrong restroom" to someone else. I had a moment where I was thinking OH CRAP, but then I heard a woman say, "No, you are in the wrong restroom, you idiot! Get out of here!" I wish she hadn't been so mean, because the men's and women's restrooms at this place look just alike, but it was still funny. |

How are you eating it? Just plain? I LOVE brown rice, but never eat it by itself as a side - it's always topped with something like a stir fry, curry, etc. that I can stir in. That way it takes on the flavor of that food. Also, be sure you cook it long enough. I have known a few people who don't and complain it's still hard. |

| Foods | Ideas for higher fat foods that aren't calorie dense? | Oct 14 2008 16:35 (UTC) |

You may have thought of this already, but you can combine a small amount of something high fat with a larger volume of something with very few calories so as a whole your calories from the snack/food would still come mostly from the fat part. Like celery sticks with a little bit of peanut butter, or hummus (with a drizzle of olive oil to get extra good fats). Or guacamole with something low-cal to dip in it ... I can't think of anything that would be particularly good at the moment that would be very low in calories, but I feel sure there is something. Or make a salad with lots of chopped super low-cal veggies like tomato, cucumber, etc. and dress it with olive oil and whatever else you want in it to flavor it. |

I use garlic-flavored hot sauce or soy sauce almost every day with lunch and/or dinner. Barbecue sauce I love, but don't use it quite as much. And I use lots of different varieties or mustard all the time. |

I love potatoes incorporated into breakfast foods. Fried potatoes are great and if you use a nonstick pan you really don't have to use much butter/oil at all. Just take a small potato, cut it up into thin slices and toss it in a pan with a tiny bit of butter/oil and throw a lid on top to make them soften faster. Throwing in a tablespoon of water helps even more. When they're almost done add a little salt, a ton of garlic powder, some pepper and paprika. They are good eaten just like that with an egg on the side and maybe some toast. I also like them topped with cottage cheese and salsa, which I know sounds really weird but it's so good. Another potato breakfast is chop a potato into cubes, cook basically the same way as above (or if you want zero oil boil them), sautee some other veggies (mushrooms, celery, onion, spinach work especially well), and toss together the potato and veggies with some beaten egg, or egg white or whatever, with some seasonings. It makes SUCH a filling meal that will keep you full for a while. I like it with a little ketchup on top :) You can add some ham or sausage or something if you want, but I'm a vegetarian so I eat it without. I am not a sweet breakfast person, and potatoes + eggs is just a really great combination and so comforting. |

I don't think I have had the lean mac & cheese. I like a new one I found recently - tortellini alfredo. It wasn't "lean" but still isn't too bad. I mixed it with some spinach, and it was good that way. But my overall favorite is the lasagna alfredo. Yummy yummy. I am not a huge frozen food person, but I keep a few in the freezer at work in case I need a quick lunch and couldn't bring one with me. |
