| Weight Loss | Anyone tried therapy for emotional eating? | Nov 11 2009 03:02 (UTC) |

I went to therapy for binge eating (sometimes it was tied to emotions but not often) and it didn't exactly help. The more I talked and thought about it the more I binged and I just felt worse over time. I imagine if you found a really good therapist that it might really help though. |

I know IBS is different for everyone and it can change from day to day but is there a chance you have a problem with dairy? You mentioned that you started eating cheese and that could be the culprit. I have had IBS for the past 3 or so years and I finally realized that my body couldn't handle much dairy or cheese anymore. I can still eat yogurt and ff products but no milk or regular cheese. In my experience I've found that the fats my body seems to be okay with are like olive oil and really that is about it.... It really takes learning what your individual triggers are and trying to avoid all those triggers and dangerous foods. Trust me it usually only takes one bad attack to learn...... I will never eat pudding again! |

I have the same issue. I don't know that it is technically body dismorphia but it is still an issue. I constantly feel so much bigger than other people seem to think I am. I think we all judge ourselves and are too harsh on ourselves sometimes. It took looking at pictures to make me realize how thin I had been last summer and how unhealthy I started to look. I also have friends who weigh more and look amazing. I think it is partly due to body shape and body fat. |

Def an arch issue! I got cramps in my toes and it caused my entire foot to tense up and hurt so bad I almost cried. It has never been that bad and when I stepped down to flatten my toes it hurt as well. |

| Weight Loss | Need support or motivation, I eat better when exercising but on days I don't I just stuff my face! | Apr 22 2009 20:00 (UTC) |

I've been doing the same thing lately. I don't know it seems like my mind should be set on eating less on those days but it ends up being a food fest. I also have the issue with the evening hours. If I go to the gym it gets broken up and I don't have as much time to do as much damage and usually I don't feel so hungry. Here lately my thing has been keeping myself out of the kitchen. Maybe try playing on the computer or something that keeps your hands busy or requires a lot of concentration. I've also found that reading is a good distraction if it is a book and not just a magazine. It is a daily battle but I figure it should start to get easier at some point, right?? Is it usually sweets that you binge on? For the last week or so I've been trying to limit anything sweet (even fruit) in the evenings and I am finding that it has helped a lot. Once that sugar hits my tongue I'm done for! Good luck! |

We do have the revolving stairs and mini stair stepper than I can try. I used to use them it has just been a while. We don't have a rowing machine. |

What lower impact for lower body would be okay to do?? That is my problem area so to not work it at all would drive me INSANE!! The lifting is really all I've done other than the elliptical for these past few weeks.... |

I probably have not been helping the situation..... I kept on doing my lifting program which is NROLFW and was not willing to stop doing squats and dead lifts.... whoops! I mean if it hurts I will stop but if it doesn't hurt at that moment than I feel too guilty to not keep up with my lifting. I guess I will give that a break for a while.... It is hard no just stop what you have gotten used to so I don't think it was dumb at all for you to keep on going. The thought of never being able to hike the Grand Canyon again (without a great deal of pain) has really gotten to me though so I'm trying keep off of it. |

Thanks for the input. Got permission to go to a specialist so hopefully he can figure it out. Whatever I did I think hill running was the culprit..... |

That sounds almost exactly like my issue!!! Except, that it has been longer than 3 weeks. Have you been exercising these last 3 weeks? |

Thanks for all your input. I'm not sure if is similar to what anyone else had or not. I think my best bet is to ask to see a specialist and hope they agree. The main source of the pain is from the inside ankle but I will randomly feel it in other places as well. The heel really isn't hurting much anymore so I'm not sure.... it is just bizarre. |

The thing is I never really "hurt" my ankle. It just one day out of the blue started hurting when I was running and continued to do so only when I ran. Then after a few days it started hurting in daily activities and walking around. The bone scan didn't show anything on that ankle.... they claimed I have arthritis in the one that doesn't hurt.... I do have the same stabbing pain though on the inside of the ankle. How long did it take to heal? |

I actually haven't noticed any swelling which is really strange to me and probably why the doc didn't know what to make of it. I have tried staying off my feet and have been taking a lot of off days and I haven't ran in about a month. I tried to run yesterday for about 2 minutes just to see and the pain was still where it initially started at but also know in the knee and lower leg. My training since has consisted of the elliptical or bike and weights. If it starts to hurt though I just stop and don't push through it.

It might be a stress fracture.... whatever it is I have the same problem right now. They took an x-ray but I haven't heard back from the doc yet. She told me that it could be a stress fracture or an aggravated muscle from running.... Hope you get feeling better soon. :)

| Weight Loss | My husband just WON'T loose weight!! | Mar 31 2009 13:32 (UTC) |

I don't think it is even about the point of how much he works out or any of those details but the fact that she is frustrated that he doesn't seem to care. You can't make someone care as they have to do it for themselves. I agree that she needs to love him and support him no matter but I understand the frustration of having a husband who doesn't appear to care about his physical health. |

I have the exact same problem. I feel so terrible about feeling this way because I know that he loves me whatever weight and shape I am and for what I was before I lost weight. He carries it all in his belly too and it really just hit last night. He wast bent over doing something and it just hung over his pants and it is just hard because I want him to be healthy and to care just a little bit. I don't know what to tell you about motivating him except that it has to be his decision. Until he decides that he wants to get healthy for himself it is just not going to happen. All we can do is love them for the way they are. I didn't get motivated to lose weight until it was truly for myself and because I wanted to feel better. You know it is kind of strange seeing that men are more physical (appearance is more of an issue for them when it comes to attraction) but their own appearance doesn't seem to bother them.... at least not once they are settled and comfortable. You just have to look beyond the physical aspect and remember what a great guy he is and how much better your life is with him in it.

I used to do a lot of cardio and honestly yes they got smaller but FLABBIER! Numerous people have told me to hit the weights so I recently started The New Rules of Lifting For Women. Dead lifts, squats, lunges, step-ups are all involved and hopefully will do the job. I carry the fat in the same exact place and am working on the same exact problem... Good Luck! |

Relay For Life is coming up in May... you might check with any groups that are participating locally. They sometimes sell shirts although not all will have cancer specific merchandise. I know our group has access to shirts.... I googled ovarian cancer shirts and this is the cheapest I saw...

| Foods | sticking out tummy | Mar 20 2009 00:19 (UTC) |

That is probably it then. 1/2 cup of regular Quaker oatmeal has 4 grams of fiber so your typical cup should have about 8 grams of fiber. That is a good deal of fiber IF you were not eating much fiber before. It takes your body a while to adjust to fiber so usually you add a bit gradually to prevent the bloating, gas, constipation, etc. |

Oatmeal does have fiber in it, are you eating more fiber than usual? If you upped your fiber intake drastically than that can make you bloated. I have IBS and I'm always bloated but I notice that it fluctuates according to my fiber intake. If you have any problems "going" then it may be the fiber but if not then I'm not sure. Try drinking more water and give it a few days. How much oatmeal are you eating? |

I feel your pain! I think the above posters gave some good advice. Save your calories and keep an emergency snack on hand. I've been trying to just eat fruit or yogurt when these hit and sometimes it helps. Also try brushing your teeth!! Nothing nastier than trying to eat with the taste of fresh mint in your mouth. That worked for me the other night. |

I get it all the time but it doesn't bother me. Sort of makes me feel good... but secretly I know I'm not always so good at home. Don't let it bother you. I don't think they do it to be mean they are just making an observation and I think it may simply be that they wish they had the desire and drive to eat as healthy as you do. |

Since it seems the endurance run for 60 mins in not beneficial how about if I reduced it to 30? I ran for 30 minutes today so I could at least get a little over 3 miles in and then I also did lunges, squats, dead lifts, squat jumps, calf raises (all with weights) and some dips. I added some weight this week too to take it up a notch and def felt it. |

I wouldn't mind changing up the lifting routine but I have to admit I don't know a whole lot. I had someone show me a few things once but I would like to learn some more compound exercises for upper and lower because isolation is a drag. How is New Rules of Lifting for Women? Wouldit really hurt my progress to do one endurance run a week? I guess being in the military ingrained the need to run in me. Not that I wanted to do it then! |

Original Post by mwheeler75: I actually haven't done those YET on the same day. I did HIIT this Tuesday but only did a few weights and some leg presses cause I was fairly tired. I just wasn't sure if I should be doing lunges, squats, etc and then doing more the next day. I mean I guess it is only a few things so I could... I'm pretty sure it was true HIIT. I did 30 second sprints on a speed of 10 then recovered for 60 seconds. I did somewhere between 6-8 sets. I lost count after a while and had to adjust since it takes a few seconds to get the machine up to speed. I went until my legs felt like they were going to collapse on me. Maybe I need to do more advanced and shorten my recovery? The intervals wouldn't be 75. At the most it would be between 45-60 and then the abs. I was wanting to keep one endurance day because I plan on doing some 5k's here soon and want to make sure I can last and keep my time. |
