Hello All,

Just spent the past week with Mom in the hospital. Very stressful! But I managed breakfast and dinner at home. It ws a good thing because I can manage my food so much better at home. For lunch I had a protein bar, easy to carry in my bag, with lots of water. I stayed away from the caf which has excellent food but I knew I would go totally out of control. (BTW, Mom is home and OK, just a very scary experience.)

Carol, I cried when I read your post. I totally empathize with you. I'm up 10 lbs since last year.  YOU OWE IT TO YOURSELF NOT TO LET ANOTHER YEAR GO BY WITHOUT PUTTING YOURSELF FIRST. Whatever I can do to help you, please ask.

Alice, Beautiful pics! I love the ladybugs and the bald eagle!!!

Donna, Glad you're feeling better.

Margie & Penny, Where are you??? I hope all is well!

So, tomorrow starts another week.  Yippie! I'm glad to get someorder back into my life.

Stay strong, be healthy,

Marie

Yikes! Have I been missing for 10 days? Crazy! I have been busy with work, playing catch up from missing time with that virus. All is well.

Did you see that news report, when it comes to losing weight: a calorie is just a calorie. Doesn't matter what diet you're on. Of course, a diet of 1400 cal/day of chocolat will allow you to lose weight, but you won't be very healthy!

Donna, I will check you journal. Hope you feel better!

Penny, So good to see you back!

Margie, I think that's great you can walk with your son!

Alice, Hiking any where interesting?

Bobbie, So glad you're out of the shadows!

Be healthy,

Marie

Carol, So good to hear from you!!

I asked Suzy to join our forum. She's got a lot of experience managing food. She's already lost 120 lbs!! Welcome, Suzy! Come on in the water is fine!

Alice, Dess, Margie, Louie hope you're all doing well.

Another 35 degree here in Boston. I walked the beach for 2 miles today. Fresh air feels so good!!!

Hi Everyone,

I was in Walmart getting my usual basic stuff when I went down the book/magazine aisle. I was going to buy Eat This, Not That but instead I picked up a copy Clean Eating magazine. This is the greatest. It doesn't talk of diet as in calories, it talks about diet as in an over all healthy way of life. Clean foods meaning pure, no additives, basic, healthy stuff. The recipes look great, easy to make, very realistic. It does go a bit too organic at times. There is also a section on exercises. It's worth picking up a copy to see if it appeals to you.

Eat This, Not That was $18 at Walmart. It's also worth a look at. There are three, one is for kids (blue cover), one is a combo of national chain restaurants and groceries (yellow cover), the last one is all groceries (orange cover). It does all the analyzing for you.

OK, the other night I went to make a salad with dinner. Ooops, I forgot to go shopping! Into the pantry, I pulled out 1 can artichoke hearts, 1 jar roasted red peppers, 1 can of chick peas. Opened, drained, sitrred into one big bowl added a few olives, a little drizzle of extra virgin olive oil, a little fresh parmesan cheese. Wow, so simple, so good, so healthy! DE-LISH!!

OK, now tonight I'm cooking pasta. Homemade gravy. Or do you say sauce?

I'm not weighing in anymore. I refuse to agonize why the scale doesn't move. I refuse to live like a slave to the scale. If I keep my food journal, keep exercising, I know if I should be losing or gaining. Also, I can tell with my clothes. It is liberating to hide the scale and focus on just feeling good, eating good, and looking good!!

I love the Helen Keller quote. It really covers our Valentine's Day woes!!

Be healthy,

Marie

Alice, take care of yourself. I know that miserable feeling when you want to sleep and you can't because the pain is keeping you awake. I hope you mend quickly!

Dess, You are sooooo active. Good for you!

Margie, You are sounding so positive, excellent! You are right about Donna. She'll hunt you down if you abandon this forum, LOL!

Donna, I love your inspiration.

I'm on a carbo kick. I am craving (and eating) warm, just baked Italian bread from the bakery. DE-lish! Anyway, I ws craving it, so I bought it, ate it, and threw the rest out. Just wanted to get that craving out of the way.

Does this sound familar to anyone......you have a craving for some type of food. You won't and don't eat it. But you end up eating all this other stuff to avoid eating the craving food...........I usually do that. Now I eat the craving food, very slowly, very mindfully. Just a small portion. Then quickly I throw the rest away. The craving is gone. I've eaten less calories than if I tried to avoid it. The only thing that's not working here is the waste of money!!!! I'll have to work on that.

Be Healthy!

Marie

Hello All,

Wow. What a difference fresh air makes! We had some good weather over the weekend and I walked 3 days in a row. Today after my walk, I worked out with my trainer. So, I am getting healthier every day. I still haven't been on the scale because I don't want that metal set back. For the past month I have been wearing sweats. Today as soon as I put on my jeans I'll know about my weight. Food has been good, but as Margie stated it's the cardio that helps us lose weight....

Margie, CONGRATULATIONS!!! 2 lbs is a great start. Keep it up. It's funny I can run on  a tread mill but I can't run outside. I wear glasses and when I run they bounce, it's very uncomfortable. But on the tread mill I don't need my glasses. It makes what to wear contacts again. I wore them for 24 years but gave them up when I had eye trouble 12 years ago.

Alice, I love the photos. I would love the challenge of refurbishing the ranger station! The last photo was great with the caption and seeing the change in the sun's light. But more importantly, look at you! You look fabulous! Your legs are so defined! Hiking agrees with you!!

Donna, I love the quote. No more excuses for us! We did have to cancel our transatlantic cruise. We were going to be in London for 5 days and take a 12 day cruise back to Boston, stopping in France, Ireland, Iceland, Canada. But it got too expensive. And we wanted all or nothing. So we books a less expensive Caribbean cruise for October. Life's a compromise!

As far as eating out, this is what I do....I would rather have a glass or two of wine than an appetizer or dessert. I order my salad with the dressing (regular, even blue cheese!!!) on the side and just lightly dip my forkful every other bite. For an entree it's either broiled fish or chicken, as plain as they can do it, lots of lemon on the side. And for side dish, always a veggie. If I do get a baked potato, I have it plain, no fixings. I know it sounds boring but even when you order something 'plain' in a restaurant it never really is. During the preping of the food there is always salt and fat added for extra flavor. I just keep thinking of the treat of not having to cook or clean up!

Louie, We don't bite! Come on and post!

Dess, Hope Curves is part of your routine.

Be Healthy,

Marie

Hello All,

Blood tests are back and no wonder why I'm being able to control my food, I do have a virus, some form of Epstein Barr but not mono. Anyway, I'm restricted from strenuous exercise for awhile. Just a lot of R&R. I had about 3 good days and then wham, I felt awful again. I'll be so happy when April is here!

Donna, good work on your calories.

Dess, you can do it!! Hubby and I canceled our cruise that included Belfast. CryWith the economy it didn't make sense spending that much money right now.

Margie, don't worry too much about what you ate. Just be careful about what you will eat. Focus on making future food choices better. I used to get so hung up about my screw ups that it would totally pull my down. I know evenings can be hard. What I do when I'm watching TV and I have the urge to eat, is on the commercial breaks I get up and do something. I'll brush my teeth. Then next commercial I'll wash my face. Next commercial I'll comb my hair. I know it sounds crazy but it keeps my thoughts off food.

Louie, the main thing is that you keep hanging around. Of course we want to see you keeping healthy and being motivated. But we accept you for you. The more you hang around us, the more chances you have of catching what we have. I don't mean my virus Laughing, I mean our healthy life style.

Alice, You are the leader of the pack! An inspiration. Yes, please post more photos!

Be healthy.........

Hello All,

Well, I'm 2 for 2! I started back yesterday with my trainer. I did a cardio warm-up on the tread mill and then with her for 1 hour. Excellent! And today, being a warm 40 degrees, I walked the beach 40 minutes for 2.5 miles. My best time yet. Of course not doing anything for 3 weeks, I have a lot of energy to burn! LOL!

Alice, I agree with your rant...Don't tell me to eat more when I'm not losing. Tell me to really examine my food log and to recheck my measurements! I beleive to go into starvation mode you really have to be starving yourself!

Donna, You are so right, it is a life style change. Re-focus. Be fit. I hate to think of my 'golden years' loaded up with perscriptions and saying 'no' to invitations because I'm too embarrassed about my weight.

Magie, just stick with us. You'll be fine. These ladies listened to me for 6 months while I screwed around and until I finally got it together to re-start my program for a healthier life.

Dess, WELCOME BACK!!!! I need you here. We all need you here!

Be healthy!

Marie

Ah, yes, it's the old take in less, burn more trick! LOL!!! But we know that is what works!

Alice, Big congratualtions to you!!!! 148 is fantastic!!!!!

I'm going to start working out again. Saturday I have an appointment with my trainer. I haven't worked out since Jan 12, the day I start the throat/flu thing. I'm on my second round of antibiotics and feeling soooo much better. It makes me feel better mentally.

The weather has been is cold and icy. Very hard to walk outside. So, it's the tread mill for me!

Hope everyone is having a good day!

Hello All,

Margie, No, I never tried Alli. Do you have to take vitamin supplements with it? It just seems like since it passes a lot of what you eat to waste, are you getting your nutrients? If it works for you, then great, go for it! Let me know how you make out.

My food intake is great, managing 1400 calories. I am not working out. I am still tired and coughing. I did go back to the doctor and all my blood work came back OK. It's just this year's flu is hard to get over. It lingers in the back ground just enough to be annoying but not enough to be at home sick. So, I will repeat until next October...I will get a flu shot, I will get a flu shot.....

Hi Josey,

Welcome and congratulations to you! -70 lbs is really impressive! Keep it up, don't go back!

I hope you find the support you need here. I've been using CC for one year now. Even when I wasn't on track, I would still check in and post in my favorite forums to keep up with my friends. I guess that's why when I started gaining weight, I didn't do too much damage. Knowing people here where cheering for me helped me get back on track.

Good luck!

Donna, I am sorry for your loss. Even though your friend's suffering is over, it's never easy. I guess you have been keeping busy with all the cooking!

Alice, You sound so strong in your postings. Keep it up!

Penny, I hope your weekend is relaxing!

As for myself, I am feeling so much better. It's been 12 days. I made an appointment to see my doctor on Monday. But I think this strep/flu is over. Yippie!

Isn't it a rip off the way manufactures of food raise prices on low-fat/cal items. It really upsets me.

A cute little book  "Eat This, Not That For Grocery Shopping" just came out in paperback. The original version "Eat This, Not That" was out for awhile dealing with chain restaurants. I did see sample pages and it looks great, easy to read and easy to find items. I am waiting for a copy at the library to see if I want to buy it.

Hi Penny,

I am so sad about your daughter. But finally the insurance company is coming through for her. Hopefully the doctors will be able to find a way to help her. Enjoy your weekend with both your daughters. It will be a comfort having them home.

I know what you mean about emotional eating. It's hard to gain control of your eating when your emotions are so out of control. It's a fight with myself to stop and think about what I'm doing, to admit eating doesn't make me feel better. But I lose the fight and I eat stuff I don't want, never mind the fact I'M NOT HUNGRY!!! If I could control my emotional eating, I could control my weight.

Alice, I totally agree with you about making 100 cal packs of my own. The waste of the packaging makes me so angry. We waste so much in this country. Europe is light years ahead of us in conservation and recycling. I lived in Italy for a bit and travel through out Europe. I could write forever about ways they conserve engery and waste.

Oh, well, I do what I can to save this planet!

Be healthy! Marie

Hello,

I'm still under the weather. So, I'm not eating much, not working out. I only feel OK when I'm under the blanket sleeping! I hate to say this but I'm thinking mono.....

On the topic of snacks.....This is what I do when I'm out of the house.........I always carry Fiber 1 bars with me. One bar is 140 calories. If I have it with a bottle of water or a cup of tea, it really fills me up and I'm satisfied. I always have plastic spoons with me too. This way I can run into a store and pick up a yogurt. And of course, I usually have an apple in the car, too. At home if I'm looking for something crunchy, I have the little carrots that are all peeled so they are quick to grab. I like to dip them in hummas.

OK, here's my pet peeve..... Food manufactures offer 100 calorie snack packs. The grocery stores are loaded with them. You can find raisins, nuts, candy, cookies, etc. all packaged up so there is no counting or measuring. It's easy and convenient and EXPENSIVE!! You end paying about twice the amount for the convenience. Why do the manufacturers have to price gouge us when we're trying to be healthy eaters????

Hello All,

Well, I was down and out with strep throat, ear infection and the flu. Yikes! I'm still not 100% but at least I'm out of bed, going straight for the couch! And of course I had no appetite, hubby kept bringing soup from every restaurant in town. I only had to worry about sodium! I still don't think I can exercise. I'm still pretty dizzy. I have two more days of antibiotics for the strep.

It sounds like everyone is doing OK. That's great.

Donna, we're getting all that cold weather too. It was just 12 degrees yesterday. Our condo is right on the water, faces northeast, so brrrrrr! We have insulated drapes for the winter which really help with the heat but I feel like I'm living in a cave!!

Alice, keep it up! Excellent! I strive for 1500 cal, it's really what I need to lose.

Dess, good to have you back! How are your grandbabies??

Louie, Good luck with your knee! I hope you'll be walking soon!

Penny, continue doing what you're doing!

Be healthy, (I wish I was) Marie

Hello All,

Well, I saved the lamps! The client loved them! I'm an interior designer. I always try to use what people have, even if it means revamping it somewhat. I took an old tarnished pair of brass lamps and painted them to look like pewter. Add that with a couple new shades and the client has the new look she wanted for a lot less money than a pair of new lamps.

For food I've been great. I feel so much better.

I have the worst sore throat and ear ache. I have to call the doctor later and get an appointment. My balance is so thrown off I can't exercise.

Donna, well done! Great work!

Penny, did you get your tree down yet? How's your cat doing?

Good for you, Penny! 5 lbs is 5 lbs! Yeah! But your poor cat!

Well, it snowed last night. We have about 6". I'm working out at 11:30 then I'll go by Mom's and shovel her out.

I am refinishing a pair of brass lamps for a client. I totally goofed. I bought the wrong paint and used it before I realized my error. Now I have a mess and instead of getting paid, I'll have to buy her a pair of lamps. Haha! Sometimes I just wonder about my mind...........

OK, for food and exercise I'm still doing OK. I hope everyone one else is doing OK too.

Wow, lots of action on the forum! Excellent! Everyone is so energized. This is great! Congrats to all.

All right, Donna, Blazing Saddles is one of my all time favorites, too! We don't need no stinking badges! I just laugh right throgh that whole movie. But going back to your challenge: 20lbs in 2 months???? Cool Very aggressive, I hope you make it! I feel like my challange is so whimpy! Undecided

Penny, I totally understand about breaking away from the TV. I can go into my "horizontal mode" so easier and just channel surf for hours. I do so much better when hubby comes home and has to turn it on for the first time of the day. I just have to keep busy. Even reading is better for me. I might be in the same position, laying down on the couch, but my mind is busy.  And, yes, I think it's cruel what the reporters are doing to The Travolta's during this very personal time.

Louie, you're the man! But please, take it easy on the weather reports! I live near Boston!Laughing We're just breaking 25 degrees here. Aren't you jealous???

Alice, I like the quote from Hungry Girl. I have a galley style kitchen, very long, 21 ft long. When I'm waiting for something to finish cooking I do walking lunges back and forth. Every little bit helps.

OK, I'm down 2 lbs and I'm off to work. What a great week. Reconnecting with all of you just brightens my day.

We're in for 8 inches of snow tonight............ugh..........I wish I was in Texas........

Good Morning!

Hi Louie! Welcome. I totally understand where you're coming from.

I think Donna hit the nail right on the head with the above post. You do have to get mad and fight. And like Alice, I use all my energy not to over eat every day.

The way I used food all my life, my emotional crutch; happy, sad, bored, stressed, whatever my mood, food was always there. It's so difficult and sometimes I have the strength and sometimes I don't. So, when I have the strength I make the most of it.

I have to admit that these past 6 months was the shortest amount of time and the smallest weight gain I ever had in my whole life. I usually start gaining and don't stop until I packed on 50 or 60 lbs. So, what's different this time? It the fact that I found CC and I was able to come here with many false starts to a healthier lifestyle. No one criticized me, no belittled me. I find the support here tremendous. And I want to thank everyone at CC.

So for any lurkers out there: Karen, Carol, Des, Jenika, Sue, Marta, Lorabear, and anyone else, come back here and post!!!! It doesn't matter where you are in your life. Just come.

Be Healthy,

Marie

Hello Everyone!

Donna, thanks for the email! I needed it. I know what you mean about Levi's. I love them. Been wearing them for at 40 yrs and I hate to wear anything else.

Alice, you are so close. You can reach your goal!

Penny, Welcome back! Take the tail out from between your legs. We're all in the same boat.

Margie, Welcome to the group. Nothing beats the support you gain here. And that's all you'll gain!

For me, since June when I reached -45 lbs all was wonderful. I believe OA calls it 'pink cloud'. The compliments were rolling in and soon it went to my head. It was cookouts, parties, summer to fall to winter, holidays and parties. Wham! I was +12 lbs on Monday. So, I swallowed my pride and pulled out my food scale and notebook and now, just 2 days later, -1 lb with 11 more to by Feb 28th. Why Feb 28th? My trainer is doing a 8 week challange with her clients. So, my challange is 8 lbs. Totally do-able if I'm serious. And I am.

So, another year and still the weight struggle is with me. It's my life.

Be healthy!

Count me in for a new start! Tomorrow, Monday, I'll be 52!! I need to get back on track and lose 30 lbs. I've been terribly depressed lately. I don't know if it's the holiday blues or weight blahs. But whatever it is, I know getting back on track and eating healthy and exercising will help it.

Not that I'm happy we're all struggling, but I'm happy that we're all in this together!

So, Jenika, Alice, Carol, Donna and any one else out there, jump right in!! I'm logging in everyday to record my food.

Marie

PS, Donna, I am very concerned about your friend. You haven't mentioned her.

And, Alice, I am so sorry about your friend. You are right,we take chances everyday because we're rushing here and there. Sometimes being 5 minutes late is OK.

Hello All,

Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm doing great with exercise and grazing. Now I have to fine tune my meals. During my little hiatus I gained 12 lbs. Ouch, that hurts! Time to get serious.

Donna, See we're all in the same boat. The most important thing is that you get over this crud. Feel better. And in no time you'll get the food and exercise thing worked out. I know it sounds like AA but 'one thing at a time'!

Hey Dess, I hear you clear across the big pond! It's amazing how those little bites add up to pounds! I'm right with you.

I'm struggling to put the food out of mind when it's not mealtime. Meals are OK, it's the snacking that has me. Also, I am slipping from my daily walks. I'm still working out twice a week with my trainer but it's not enough. She gave the warning this week, get 6-10 lbs off by New Year's or else. I didn't ask what the else meant......If she ever dropped me for lack of results, I'll be back at 254 in no time!

I know time flies by, not enough hours in the day, but I really need the help and support of everyone in this forum. YES, I'M NEEDY!!!!!

I hope everyone comes back even if it's not every day.

Hello Everyone!

Glad to see people are coming around again.

I was on vacation, cruise to Bermuda with hubby and friends, it was wonderful.

However, time for reality. Back to putting workouts and food journals into a DAILY ROUTINE.

Alice, Penny, Carol, Marta....Let's get back on track!

Dess and Donna.....Thank you for the continued posting. It helps, even when I read and don't write. Donna, it's great you're losing!!

When I joined this forum we were playing the word game. What to give it a shot again? It helped me to stay focused on a healthy lifestyle. I just thought of the word and repeated for reinforcement. Of course, everyone thought I was nuts talking to myself!

Well here goes.....
