Thank you, too. I reviewed what I ate today. 2904 grams of sodium. I ate mostly whole foods though, not much canned or boxed - one frozen breaded chicken patty was as close to "processed" as I got. That was 480 grams of sodium. 1 ounce of packaged cheddar cheese was 180 grams. Those 2 things alone knocked me over the 2400 recommended amount. I'll watch it more closely. Thanks again. |

HAHAHAHAHa - pungent......good word. I don't mind the release of the "stuff", but the aftermath even makes my dog go to the next room. I even think the wallpaper is starting to peel. I blame the broccoli, cabbage and sugar free candy. How is it that folks not needing to lose weight are always sweet smelling with no "outbursts" eating well, and what we're eating to lose weight makes us capable of shooting to the moon, should the output be bottleable? Thank God I don't have a boyfriend during this embarrassing episode. Janet |

Thank you for your response. That helps. I did a quick check to test your theory against one of my recorded "labeled" package foods - real close (off by 5 calories), and one check using the gram count in this site for a "medium" banana. That was also close. I think what I'll do now is use your calculations AND labels or this site's nutritional values. Then I'll log whatever is higher in CALORIES to be on the safe side. One other little thing to do, but I suppose that my fingers typing on this computer to do one more little calculation will cause me to burn at least one extra calorie a day, no? :) |

Didn't the smell on your clothes and getting half sick give you a boost in your resolve to quit? I do enjoy the GOOD smells, my self included. Bad news though. I received a post (not on this thread) from someone who quit smoking 4 weeks ago and started the diet on the same day. They said that the toughest time getting over ciggys is 3-4 weeks. Just thought I'd pass that along so you can gear yourself up. My birthday is next Friday. I'd like to celebrate it knowing that I made the smartest decision of my life and stuck to it before turning 29 again :) Losing a few pounds will be a nice present to myself, too !! Come on March.....that should be an easier month. |

| THANKS. I won't over indulge; just wanted to feel for once since I've been on this diet, that I'm not on a diet, and have a brewsky. Small pleasure for 10 days of tracking every single thing that goes down the pipe...including the 95 calories per can of Busch Light. | |||

| Busch Light, and yea, I know it's "empty", but will my body know that, or process the calories like any other thing I eat, or will my body go into "save the fat" mode, knowing that my last 2-300 calories were "empty"??? | |||

| I have the same question. See forum post called "DUMB QUESTION". That's mine and I'm a little confused too. Read the posts on that and you'll see what my confusion is all about. Maybe between the two questions, you and I will figure this out. | |||

| Just an added note, I always at least or a little more than 1200 calories. No crash diet going on here. | |||

What I'm thinking is that the burn estimate is what I will burn based on mmy lifestyle, without exercise, and any exercise will bump that number. So I should be calculating my actual calories versus my burn estimate. For example, at dinnertime, my burn "estimate" was @ 1760, actual burn was @ 1490. Calorie estimate (always 1800) and actual calories was 994. So if I stop right there for the day, I'd have a difference....at the end of the 24 hour period.....of 764 calories. Correct? And thanks.....a lot !!!! |

<<<<Eat meter little number - Calorie intake goal>>>>> <<<Activity meter little number - Estimated calories burned at the end of the day >>> Those are the numbers I'm talking about..the little ones. It always shows 1800 "eat" and "1700" or so burn until I exercise. I do track my calories using the big eat meter and stay around 1200, so even without my exercises, I should be good. Just curious as to why the initial goal/estimate always looks like I'd be gaining weight if I ate the 1800 per the eat meter number. |

Hi Domicole, Thought I'd check in and make sure you are still ciggyless. I'm on the end of Day 10. It seems like I'm wanting a puff more now than the first few days for some reason. Maybe it's my body "de-toxing" and my brain's fighting it, but I'm determined to beat the demon. Today was tough, but tomorrow's a new day. Thank God for this CC site. If I wasn't countiing every calorie, I'd be gaining weight, nibbling here, chewing there, grazing all day.....and I doubt that it would be my recent celery, carrots and gum. Hope you're still not smoking too. |

What they say about beer is true, isn't it? Beer leads to beer gut. That's also one of the reasons I'm on a diet. Divorced 1-1/2 years ago and drowned my sorrows in Busch light with my brother as often as I could, and by myself when he wasn't around. Finally had enough time go by and enough extra pounds and finally told myself to get on with ME, forget about the past. It was stupid to be ruining my health over my ex. So I quit smoking, started this diet, joined Jazzercise, and look forward to the summer on my brother's boat. Good luck with the new gal. Reply anytime you want. If it's in the evening, I'll probably be eating cottage cheese, thanks to your advice. By the way, how did you learn that cottage cheese keeps your metabolism going overnight, and what other foods do that? |

| Feels good, doesn't it? Tonight is the end of day 6 for me. No cravings, really, but I do find myself finishing dishes, or something which afterwards I'd normally light up, thinking "ah, it's time for a smo.......oh, no, I guess NOT !!!!! " Then I'm okay again. My hair smells good, my house smells better....that'll take awhile, my mouth doesn't taste like %*#&% in the morning when I wake up, and I realize how much time I WASTED every day taking smoke breaks. The diet's going pretty good too; 4 pounds in 6 days (probably a lot of water weight), and I look forward each morning to BREATHING FREE and LOSING WEIGHT ! My sister & I are going to a wedding in April. We both just joined Jazzercise. I want to hit my goal by then, and sure don't want to have to say that I quit smoking, but then started again. I'm determined to have this be a WIN/WIN conquest. Keep it up! | |||

| So, how did DAY 1 of "breathing free" go? I'm at the end of Day 3 and it really hasn't been bad. I'm REALLY keeping close track of what I eat, knowing that my mouth always want something to do in place of the ciggy. I sure don't miss smelling like cigarettes !! | |||

Wow, a lot of great information! Today is day 3 of my diet AND not smoking, or as I refer to it.....breathing FREE. So far I'm not hungry during the day. I do try to eat 5-6 small nutritious meals and track it all, including the new exercising I've started, in this site (and it IS a great site). I think I need to eat a little MORE. I've been eating between 1200-1300 calories, and as I said, not hungry during the day, but I'm hungry by the time I go to bed which makes it hard for me to fall asleep. I'll take your advice about the cottage cheese and eat it before I go to bed. Since you're still using this forum, are you done losing weight and now just in the maintenance mode or are you going for more? Doesn't sound like you need to lose any more. THANK YOU! |

| Watch out for the sugar-free candy. They're good and keep my mouth busy, and I don't know how they're affecting you, but they give me GAS. | |||

Love the TITLE ! LOL! I don't have many days at this diet under my belt (so to speak) yet, but I went out before I started it and bought all kinds of veggies, "0" calorie drinks, all which I've always had. The one new thing I bought was the sugar-free candies, Werther's and Baskin Robbins have them, about 4 calories apiece. They keep your mouth busy, but the down side I've noticed is.........they give a person GAS !! So try 'em, but only when you're not expecting any company. Just a word of warning :) |

| I just started this diet yesterday since I also quit smoking then. Figured losing the 10-15 pounds I need is a good distraction (especially following a PLAN) and also will keep me from gaining more while trying to quit. My estimated goal per this site says 1800 calories. Yesterday I had around 1300 with a B+ and today I had 1262 with an A-. Exercise - doing around 1600. I appreciate your help !!! Am I doing okay with that end? | |||

Wow - I just quit smoking 2 days ago (including today) using the patch. I had always been afraid of gaining weight if I quit. Still am afraid of that "side effect of quitting" which is why I'm tracking everything I eat through this site, trying to lose weight (already needed to take off 10-15) while quitting the smokes. This site actually gives me something to do besides want to smoke since I'm researching calories, planning meals, logging my food, keeping my mind busy. One of my downfalls is butter. There are butter sprays on the market, Parkay and "I don't believe it's not butter" brands. ZERO calories and it makes all of the veggies taste better. So far, I'm pretty stoked about my lack of cravings for smokes and know through this site that I can kill both birds with one stone. Good luck to you! |

So you can keep track of what you eat - which enables you to analyze your foods and receive the following:
- Health Score of your overall diet
- Warning when you approach your daily calorie limit
- Overview of the good and bad nutrients
