Weight Loss movie popcorn: i think i really screwed up Jun 09 2008

I think it is really normal sometimes to get into self-defeating thoughts when you feel you "screwed up" and ate too much. Ok, so maybe you did...so what? This happens to me, I have a moment of weakness and before I know it I have inhaled half a box of chocolates!

I think the key to weight loss is to not feel discouraged when you have a day like that. When you feel so down on yourself you're apt to say, "well I have gone and wrecked it, might as well have a pint of ice cream now," or whatever. If you fall off the wagon, rather than staying in the dirt, get up, and get back on as soon as you can. Little blips won't cause weight gain, it is what you do after eating that bag of popcorn that will.

I have been losing weight steadily by keeping to 1500 calories as many days of the week as I can and exercising for an hour as many days as I can. And still managing to have moments of weakness. But I just go past it and move forward and I think that's why I have been successful. If it makes you feel better, the next day, do a little more exercise, run longer, spend more time in the gym, etc but don't get obsessive about it. Good luck!

Hey, I know this isn't an answer to your question, but I was really inspired by the fact that you have a baby and are able to be so dedicated to your workout! That is awesome! Do you find it exhausting or is it all about time management?
I think that is my number one fear of having children...getting too tired to workout after chasing kiddies around all day!

I have heard that when you get to a lower weight, you should try working out with a weighted vest. Has anyone tried that?

I know it is definitely harder losing weight at 134 pounds versus 160....I remember when I used to do the smallest amount of effort and the weight fell off....lol the good ol days!!!

Kashicat:

Thanks for the detail, I really appreciate it!

For everyone else, yeah, I see what you're saying. I really need to get off of the starchy food band wagon.

I have no problems with breads, because I actually don't like white bread anyway. It is more of the desserts that are my weakness. I suppose every once in a while it won't kill me to have a slice of cake or whatever, but I realize it cannot be an every day occurance.

I think the hardest part about losing weight is consistency: sticking to relatively a good amount of cals every day. Sometimes I dread the weekends because I know there are meals out with friends, drinks, etc. Willpower is a tough thing!!!!

Kashicat:

I am interested to hear more about your diet, since you have a body type like mine. Do you find you had to cut out on the whole wheat too, or was it just the white starchy stuff that was causing you problems?

Do you find you get really hungry, having cut out the other stuff?

I really don't think so.....I can lose weight while still eating bread, pasta, etc. As long as I am counting my calories. I really thin at then end of the day a calorie is a calorie. You could eat 500 calories worth of fruit and veggies or one chocolate bar and your body will see it as the same....but it will be easier to stick to the fruit and veggie diet for weight loss because you'd be fuller longer, healthier, etc. I find if I eat too much protein and not enough carbs, I cannot get through workouts, I am tired, shaky and cranky. I will always fall off the diet then and wind up eating a pint of ice cream!
