Oh yea!! Everything here is fried or loaded with sugar! Comfort food is like a medicine and it's prescribed like asprin!! And everyone wants to fatten you up! I've learned to just "white lie" and I hate it but it's defense. "Oh that looks so good, your so sweet! I am so full from lunch. I wish you had been here an hour ago!" Or a good bout of "just gettin' over the stomach flu" helps as long as your not around the person too much. Too much of that then your gettin' the poor little thing, has an eating disorder looks! And sweet tea? It makes my teeth ache and it's like water here!! So I carry a bottle of water, in plain sight, to discourage the requests to parch my thirst. Nope, have something right here, thanks! Good luck, your going to have to get creative!! Just having your teeth cleaned or a tooth ache is another excuse that discourages continued prodding! I feel for ya!!

hi Elizabeth. I guess we are both starting at the same place. I'm 43 yrs -  5'7" and 165. I'm new to the site and trying to loose 30 pounds by summer. My problem is I suffer from low blood pressure and my doctor wants me taking in more salt which I'm learning is a diet no-no. Are you staying within your calorie count? I'm supposed to be taking in 1800 calories but I'm finding it hard, I feel like I've eaten a turkey! All the water is flushing out all the salt that I have to keep replacing and I feel like a yo-yo!!

Mee Too!! I'd like to lose 30 but would settle for 20 and still be able to get into those old jeans I still have. (in the "I have a dream" side of my closet) This is my first official diet; I've had horrible eating habits thanks to an even worse job, so keeping the weight off was no problem. A back injury changed all that and now I'm home, not moving as much and 30 pounds later here I am.
Pregnancy & Parenting How much does your child weigh? & How do they eat? Jan 25 2008

My daughter is 9 and the ultimate bottomless pit. She eats non stop and is a thin as a rail. My son is a very healthy eater too and is also thin. But they are both very active, sports, chores and just running and being kids. I started early with them, talking about how food changes your body, not always for the good. We talk about getting fit, excersie and diet. I encourage them to help me in the kitchen and you would be amazed at how much better they eat when it is something that they have helped prepare! My daughter is such a hand in the kitchen now, she cooks often and entire meals. One thing I found early that helped get them to eat, food coloring! I've added it to foods they would rather not eat, but did eat because it was fun colors. No added sugar, no fights and no fits. It doesn't work with everything of course, but it helps. Don't worry, your babies are still pretty little and in good hands!! I didn't think I would ever get mine to eat healthier, but I quit nagging at them and just got creative. My trick is simple, I put several options in front of them. All the choices are healthy. Then I let them decide. You'd be amazed at how much better they eat when they picked it out and weren't told to eat it. And really try the kitchen helper thing. My kids love to eat what they made. Even if it's just to stir a pot, little ones really feel as though they have "made" it and mine take so much pride in eating what they make.  You are in control of what they are making and eating, but they think they are and we all know kids love to do what they want, not so much what we want. Good luck!!
