From what I've read about you all,

alot of you seem to be on the right track.

But there's a few of you that just cant seem to stop.

I know I'm not perfect

but I'm going to be honest.

There are those of you who are dropping WAY below an appropriate weight for your age, and probably your height as well.

The goal is to be healthy, not model skinny.

The point is to be at a point where you are fit,

no the point where you can fit into a size zero, because to be really honest,

its unhealthy, and unrealistic.

Its a fact.

the two most bought sizes in jeans in this country are 0, 12, and 16.

what does this say?

its a fact.

The desire to look like models have driven CHILDREN under the age of 10 to diet under no duress. This is unnacceptable because their bodies havent even finished GROWING yet. People under the age of 21 should not try to be under their BMI reccomended weight because of dangers of malnutrition, which decreases potential of body development and growth.

I appreciate honesty. And i mantain that I am not judging any of you, because it is SO easy to control weight, and become obsessed with it. I'm just saying its necessary to be carefull. I understand if you are naturally at a body weight that is low, that is through no fault of your own.

If you dont believe me, read up on it. READ , learn what being too skinny can do to you.

Hey!  I'm 21.

I just joined the site.  I changed my life 2 weeks ago and I've lost.. well the scale is not accurate but about 5 lbs.

I'm motivated by facebook photos.  And creating a better future for myself.  I just started to accept that I'd always be fat.  And I don't have to be.  I really feel that this is long-term baby.

lol that was me, i looked really fat in one of my facebook photos, and then after being out one day and someone said " I saw my aunt when i was driving on the highway today and she was with this really fat girl. ( i was that really fat girl.) So i looked for a... well... i dont know what i was looking for, but i found this. on the sight since the 29th of january 21 pounds later.

Well, I just turned 18 last Saturday.
I just think being thin is beautiful, but my current motivation is my upcoming prom/graduation/etc.
& yeah, I've lost over 70 pounds & still going.
hmm, not really sure how long I've been here. I think I registered long before I started posting, but I'm not really sure.
& yessss, I have cheat days. 3 out of the past 4 days have been cheat days, actually. It just all happened to work out that these big dinners I had to be at were all around the same time. I don't feel guilty because they were deliciousssss! =] haha. No, but I really see no point in being guilty because I know I'm gonna get right back into a healthy diet & even if I gained like a pound [which would definitely be the most gain possible since I didn't go completely crazy calorie-wise] it's not the end of the world & I'll just lose it for this week. no harm done

That weight loss is amazing! do you mind letting me ask you what your starting weight was? amazing! im glad you have such a nice outlook on things!

I looked at that book one time.  It gave me really good tips for drinking, actually.  Maybe I'll pick it up sometime.

Oh, and guys in the gym can be really scary.  It's good to have a membership because you paid for it and it forces you to go, but you really do feel like you're in a fishbowl.  I always tried to go at offpeak hours.  There's certain times of the day when it's seriously all moms... I found those most comforting.  Otherwise, I felt a lot like I was in a fishbowl.  Now I just run on my own, when nobody is in the little gym of my apartment complex.  It's a lot more comfortable than being ogled by 300 lb body builders.

lol that certain time of day when its all moms... IM at work lol. there might be a womens gym around here, and im not talking curves. cuz for some reason that place just irritates the crap out of me. and ugh. i hate being ogled generally, nvmnd the gym. WII FIT!

In response to the question about waiting to exercise until you lose more weight, I think people often put off going to the gym until they feel like they look better to do it. I know a few people, including myself, who feel too out of shape to go to the gym and have to watch other people who are thin or ripped or just generally more physically fit than us barely breaking a sweat while we're struggling with trying to get back in shape.  Going to the gym makes me so self conscious, I put it off a lot and try to exercise and stay active another way until I feel fit enough to do it.

And cheat days.  Everyone has them.  Some of us just cheat more often than others.

lol I went to the gym today, its costly...so i was like... you expect me to pay WHAT?! for stuff i can do at home?!  and i really dont feel comfortable with men around to be really honest... i feel comfortable in my house, doing my own thing... men just kind of stare you down like little weird neanderthals... not to be sexist... but its true ... I'll just sit around with my wii fit and do it that way... also...

has anyone read the book skinny bitch? I've started reading it and its becoming more and more interesting...

i have found some holes in their schpeel on coffee... also on carbs. I find it interesting, and i would seriously suggest taking this book lightly because you will find yourself taken back within the first couple of pages.

Shame isnt the word i would use, guilt however, yes. Guilt with the knowledge that i could have done better than i did. I know if i dont have these feelings during this process i will not loose the weight

 :D :D :D :D

I'm so happy that there are so many responses to this question. And im even happier that people are so honest and open as to why they chose to well... take the journey. Whether your trying to just be healthier, or fit into your bathing suits, im loving the fact that i got the answers i did.

To answer my own questions;

I am 19 turning 20 soon.

What motivates me to loose the weight, I'm not gonna lie is the desire to fit into a bathing suit, and walk down a beach without feeling self conscious. But I'm mostly doing this because ive heard the words " and she was with this really fat girl." that was my breaking point. yep. that was it. never in my life have i been the "really fat girl. I was always the chubby girl. or the fat girl. but NEVER have i been called "the really fat girl".

Ive lost 20-22 pounds depending on the day, I started in january at 181 pounds and depending on the day lately im 159-161 ive been that way for a little over a month ( only myself to blame)

I've been on the site since january 29th. i started with someone, and theyve lost pretty much the same amount as me.

AND TO BE HONEST I DONT CARE WHO COMES HERE!!! lol I WAS LOOKING FOR A CENTER OF YOUNGER PEOPLE.

and like i said ... i think its amazing the amount of people who responded to this.

I'm happy there are people my age who have some type of weight loss goals besides me.

and now, FOR MORE QUESTIONS!

:)

Does anyone have a cheat day? do you feel guilty afterward?

I'm having a hard time with mine, its on sundays, i eat so much i get sick, and also gain the weight back ive lost through the week, which is usually like a pound.... So when i gain that poind back i feel bad.... i was so proud of that measley little pound!!!

Which leads me to my next question.

Has anyone here resolved to limit an exercize regimine untill they've lost more weight?

I walk to and from work ( not too far) i clean my house, take the sairs at work, and i stand at work all day so its not like im sedentary but im wondering if i should do cardio and stuff besides that to burn cals..... anyone?

Peace,Love, and happiness,

sweetness.

working, i stand for 5-8 hours at at a time at a starbucks

walking to work.... walking home..

i add house hold chores....

i live on the bott0m floor of a three floor house... so im basically walking up and down stairs to get to anything i need.

pretty much anything.... im anal about stuff like that though

its especially usefull when you've eaten over your calorie intake.... but you've done enough physical activity throughout the day so its not so bad.

..... i was actually wondering all of these things myself.

I also would like to add one more, only because i dont know who to bring suggestions to either.

it seems that everything goes in terms of weight in grams oz's and servings. I wish there were more in terms of solid volume in cups.

(and btw i've worked for mcdonalds i think they lie on their wrappers cartons and in their nutritional value pamphlets.)

atleast your not giving up completely... that would be far worse.  I wouldnt stress so much. atleast you stopped, thought about it, felt bad about it... its a lesson learned... and as before mentioned by others... just count it as a free day... free days keep me from binging(<~totally spelled wrong)

Weight Loss Tell Me About "Free Days" Feb 25 2008
22:49 (UTC)
2

well... The truth is... your really not supposed to have free days... duh. your supposed to make a life change and i guess... not eat like a pig ever again.

but .

whatever to that. i have a love for food.

my free day is sunday.

i eat what i want.

when i want

and consume generally....

 3,000 calories give or take.

Usually i eat  a bagel  with some eggs and bacon, or pancakes. or a muffin... with lots n lots of coffee.

then for lunch ill have chips or brownies, or both, or a double cheese burger.

dinner is basically what i eat every other day of the week... meat, with a vegie, but i add pasta.... which is a big nono on week days...

then ice cream, or brownies, or chips.

i dont allow myself to worry about it... and more and more recently i find myself eating less on my free days... because i get full faster. but.. when monday morning comes, im all business. I'm steadily loosing,  so i dont see the problem with a free day once a week.
