Yeah, I'm right there with you. I got a pedometer and that made me aware of how little activity I was doing most days. I started walking more and actually exercising to get the recommended steps and I'm finally starting to see some progress. It also helps to do anything you can to increase your metabolism: drink more water, eat early in the day and small portions every few hours, build muscle to help burn fat, etc, etc. Good luck!

Weight Loss Yoga Mar 09 2008

Just like most forms of exercise you'll have to judge that for yourself. You should try to do it every morning because then you'll have more energy during the day but sometimes it's more helpful to just give your body a rest! When I first discovered yoga I pushed myself way too much the first few days and I was extremely sore for several days after. Just start small and work your way up to what feels comfortable for you.

Try this site, it's got a bunch of helpful info:

Hey ladies! Glad to see there are so many other 20-somethings looking to get healthy and still have fun. I'm 22, also from Oregon and looking to get back down to a healthy BMI in time for swimsuit season. This is the longest I've ever stuck with anything like this and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon. I'd love to meet anyone who'd like to swap recipes or can help keep me motivated and I'd gladly return the favor.

The great thing about the internet is that you can find almost anything you'd ever want or need to know just by googling it. I don't even bother with cookbooks anymore, when I need some inspiration I just search for the cut of meat and maybe a few other ingredients and try whatever sounds good AND easy. And speaking of making things easy, this should give you a good idea about where each cut of meat comes from: http://www.gourmetsleuth.com/beefcuts.htm

Here are three of my favorite cooking sites to get you started..

I agree with blackbird, eating smaller portions at regular intervals throughout the day will keep you from feeling hungry. If you "save" some extra calories to eat in between dinner and bedtime it'll satisfy your hunger and won't slow your progress.
Weight Loss new to cc Jan 31 2008

I know exactly how you feel. I gained 55 pounds in the last year and I can't wait to get back to feeling comfortable in my own body. CC says I should get to 112 for my height but I've never been less than 125 and I'd just be happy to get there. It's really encouraging to know there are others struggling to get healthy so we can motivate each other along the way.

Good luck with your goals!

Hi there,

I just joined within the last week and I'd love to find some friends to help with motivation. I'm 22, 5', 180lbs. :^.^ Yeah, no fun. I was 140 for years and last year I was actually down to 125 through yoga and belly dance and I would be thrilled to get back there by this time next year. Your post caught my eye since one of my friends lived in Sapporo for awhile and the pictures he sent me were gorgeous. How much of Japan did you get to see outside the bases? Are you still there now?
