| The Lounge | Anyone know of a good face self tanner? | Jan 30 2008 18:19 (UTC) |

I really like Neutrogena's summer glow (spf 15).. you should be able to get it for less than $15. Don't judge by my pictures... one's kind of dark, the other's overexposed, plus I wasn't using it when those were taken! My before is how tan I get in the summer, and 'after' (I'm not done, yet!) is how pale I get during the winter.. lol! This product keeps me somewhere in between, which is fine by me.. it's not too drastic, but I like that it's kind of like a tinted moisturizer that's not too heavy on my face. Good luck finding one that works for you! |

| Foods | Help I'm going to a Conference! | Jan 30 2008 15:41 (UTC) |

I've eaten in dining halls for the first two years of college--and yes, they can have some delicious food (most of which isn't particularly good for you...) especially the desserts! I think you have a good strategy planned, but be sure not to avoid altogether the foods that you really want to eat. I always found when I denied myself the "tasty" dishes that everyone else was eating, I would end up resenting my diet.. cave in and eat something I wasn't supposed to... and feel terrible the rest of the day! The point of CC+ is that you can keep track of the calories you consume, whether they come from healthy food, or not-so-healthy dining hall food. As long as you stay within your calorie intake goal, you'll be fine! So what I try to do is aim for smaller portion sizes of the "good stuff", and like you said, fill up on all the fruits and veggies they have to offer! Don't deny yourself something you want to eat, just make healthy choices for the other meals of the day so you can fit it in =) The best light desserts I've found have been angel's food cake, fat free frozen yogurt (they might have the option instead of regular ice cream) or taking maybe two sugar cookies... or when people are eating dessert, getting a cup of coffee instead is perfectly acceptable! Good luck sticking with your goals, and have fun at the conference! |

| mikerwinfan.. happy early b-day! Mine's a couple days after yours, Feb. 8th--I'm turning 22.. but I couldn't drink on my 21st (doctor's orders, I was sick) so this is a big one for me, too ;) Hopefully we'll party it up, and still stick to our diets!! Have fun! |

| Weight Loss | Why don't people notice?? | Jan 29 2008 14:38 (UTC) |

The same thing was happening to me.. and I was even more frustrated because wherever we go, people comment all the time on my roommate's weight loss and not on mine. She dropped from a size 8 to a size 2 over a short period of time, whereas I dropped from a size 14 to a size 8 over a span a couple months or so longer. But since she's at her goal weight now, and she did it quickly, it's understandable people are going to notice her more--I try my hardest not to be jealous because I'm truly happy for her! It helps when I just think, "that's gonna be me in a few months!" =] And it's true about people who haven't seen you for awhile noticing much more than the people who see you day in and day out--my family at home notices because I only see them every couple months, and recently I went back to my old job, where my boss recognized the change (I hadn't seen her in a full semester). Her compliments made me feel so good about myself--so hang in there, the compliments are on the way! You just need the right people to see you ;) And congrats on all you've accomplished so far! |

| Weight Loss | How to diet as a "starving college student"?! | Jan 29 2008 13:19 (UTC) |

Thanks for the post mikerwinfan, it's really good to hear from someone who's been in my position before and succeeded! (congrats btw!) I live off campus so I don't have access to the dining halls unless someone guest-meals me.. which I do as often as possible b/c first of all it's free, and second of all I get to steal lots of dining hall fruit! lol... I do walk a LOT.. at the very least an hour a day,I think. Going b/w class and work.. and I live about ten minutes away and usually go back and forth between campus and my apt. 2-3 times a day. Anyway.. thanks again! It's really motivating to know someone else did exactly what I'm trying to do ;) (oh, and cute "bean" picture! lol) |

| Matte Start weight: 153.5lbs Goal loss: 8lbs Week 1: 153.0lbs Week 2: 154.0lbs Week 3: 153.0lbs Week 4 Total loss: 21 until Feb. 8th.. which just happens to be our Week 1 weigh in day! Hopefully I can somehow diet AND celebrate my b-day ;) I'm 5'6", small frame.. aiming for an ideal 130-135 range as a long term goal. My Feb. goal is to lose 8lbs (which would get me into those elusive 140s!) I don't know how quickly or slowly the weight is going to come off now... so I'll be happy even to lose 1lb/week. Good luck everyone =) Week 1: What a roller coaster this week has been! I had a really bad weekend to start out with (along with it being that TOTM) so I was up to 157.5 before I knew it! grr... Got back on track and am feeling pretty good about my diet/exercise plan now. So even though I only lost 1/2lb overall this week, I'm still considering it a success ;) I'm hoping to do a lot better for Week 2, keeping a closer eye on my calorie intake for the beginning of the week so I don't continue this vicious cycle of gaining and losing the same lbs over and over :P Oh.. and great job to everyone I've seen record their Week 1 weights! You're all doing so well! This group is definitely keeping me motivated :D Week2: Ugh!! I've been sticking to my diet, and exercising almost daily. (my schedule's been hectic, but I've been fitting it in somehow!) It's really frustrating to see a gain over the week! But I'm feeling kinda bloated.. so I hope that's just it =( Better luck next week *crosses fingers* Week3: So, more of the same.. beyond frustrating, might I add. :P But on a good note.. I measured myself this week and have lost inches across my hips, thighs and waist! So booo scales! and hooray measuring tape!! At some point or other the scale has GOT to move, and here's hoping it's next week (or I'm gonna scream!) ;) |
