| Just remind yourself that if you get on that machine for at least 15 minutes, you wont feel fat even if you feel bloated because you know you exercised. Also working out helps with cramps for me. I usually don't run during that time but instead use the elliptical (I use that mostly anyway) because it's a pain free ride. Your legs won't hurt afterwards and after working out, you feel more energized and not so moody. Just push yourself to make it to the gym... and take it from there. | |||

| More muscle = faster metabolism and less fat %
Maybe you are gaining muscle weight. Why don't you check out your body fat percentage? This way you can figure out if you are losing anything or not. When people lose weight, it is mostly muscle mass and about 10 % of the weight loss is fat so if you are gaining weight, maybe it's not bad if it's from muscle so check it out. |

Well, my body fat percentage was 36.7 % before I started and when I started to eat less than 20 grams of fat a day, in two weeks, my body fat percentage went down to 34%. I didn't lose any weight, but I have lost inches. Fat in the diet is necessary but if you want to slim down, you need to tackle your body fat percentage... decrease the fat in the body and increase muscle leads to fast metabolism. I mean, this is what most professional body builders and athletes say. My body fat % is now 32.5 %... an athletic woman has about 18-24 % body fat. And a healthy woman is supposed to have no more than 30% fat percentage. Fat is insoluble, this is why our body is not able to digest too much fat and thus stores it. I don't know about you, but that is how I get thunder thighs and love handles. You can be skinny and have high body fat percentage, those people who have this is kind of lucky because it doesn't make them look fat but eventually this will catch up with them and lead them to either gain tons of weight later in life or they will suffer from heart diseases and such. |

How many grams of fat did you take in today? If you are looking to lose weight, take no more than 20 -30grams of fat a day. Calorie is really another word for energy... if you are craving food, maybe your body needs energy, don't feel too bad about taking more calories then you should. And besides going up and down with calories tend to help with weight loss because your body works in a pattern and so it will try to burn what it burned the day before. And the more meals you eat (small portions) the more calories you will burn. SO... don't stress about going over your calorie intake, really, you should be focused on how many grams of fat you consume a day. And 1200 calories a day, come on... how can your body function and do what it needs to do if you are giving it only 1200 calories a day???????? Think of all the tissues, and the organs and the muscles that need to work... every time you stand, walk, flick a finger, you are using energy. Don't feel bad about wanting cereal. Go for it... with skim milk and hopefully a healthy type of cereal. =) A bonus will be if you walk back and forth to the kitchen, do it 10 times, if you still want the cereal go for it! Don't deprive your body. Because then your body will take revenge on you!!!! |

| Health & Support | cry for help: depressed with an eating disorder | Feb 29 2008 21:33 (UTC) |

Hey. Depression and eating disorder is a bad match. I can't tell for myself, anyway, which came first. But either way, you need to realize how they are damaging your life... and that's a pretty bad deal considering that you have only one life to live. Just one. And no redos. I was a cocaine addict for about five years and that helped with my depression. (NOT really helped but it gave me "control" over my depression.) But when I tried to stop the coke, I realized that I gain weight when I stop. So I would eat a lot when I didn't use and I would throw up or I would not eat for a few days (I would binge and purge when i didn't use, and starve myself when I used) It went on for about five years. I was never skinny but when I started using, I fell in love with how I looked because I was skinny (90 lbs/ 5'1) and "beautiful" and so after I stopped using for good (about a year and half ago) my eating disorder got even worse. It was so bad, my face would swell up and my throat would be swelled up from all the throwing up and my chest bones would hurt and I would sometimes black out after purging. Then I just couldn't do it anymore. I couldn't stick my fingers down my throat- I had so many scratches down my throat that it would burn when I drank water. It got so worse that my reflexes was horrible, so horrible that I had to use 4 fingers. And that was it for me.
I told myself everyday that I am very unhealthy and I need to change my life. I didn't call myself fat, but I kept reminding myself that if I kept going this way, I would eventually die. You have to realize this that your life is your life, if you don't get your life together, no one else can get it together for you.
You might need help from professionals, then don't wait, get the help. If you want to lose weight, then join a gym and go everyday for atleast 30 minutes. Working out really REALLY helps with depression. Surround yourself with people who know what is going on and who will love and support you through these times. And take it one day at a time and before you know it... your body will get healthy and your mind will follow. Get active and do something good for yourself. Take charge and change what you need to change to live a good long life.
It is such a bad place to be... where you are right now, and I wish I had kinder words or better advice but all I really can tell you is that the longer you let this happen, the deeper the abyss will be. You need to get yourself up, and it needs to be now. |

| Weight Loss | Already ate like all my calories! | Feb 29 2008 21:11 (UTC) |

Hey no worries! Calories are energy... and during that time of the month our body needs a lot of energy so I think it would be okay if you eat over your limit. If you want to lose weight, you should pay attention to your fat intake anyway not so much your calories. Because that way your body isn't storing more fat but instead using stored fat.
And if you still feel bad about going over your limit, exercise, it will benefit two things- you can have more calories and also it will help with the cramping. I have my period now and I have been hitting the gym for the last 3 days and for 45 mins each. IT REALLY helps. Instead of feeling bloated and grumpy and lazy, I feel energetic and not so moody =) |

| There is this very delicious ice cream, well sorbet. It's from a company called Del Monte... I bought this Freeze and eat fruit chillers. IT IS SOOOO VERY good. It is frozen fruit sorbet, tastes really creamy... it has zero fat, 190 calories per cup, 2 g of fiber and 46g of carbs (Carbs is a bit high) But overall, it's a A- snack, and it is very very tasty... the polar raspberry one especially. | |||
| Weight Loss | So confused! | Jan 30 2008 15:03 (UTC) |

Hey Anna As long as you are eating all meals and eating enough- say high energy foods with low calorie, that is fine- I think. I mean I eat a lot of vegetables and fruits ( And I mean a lot) And I fill of on those mostly, so my calorie intake is really low. It is lower than what I should take in daily. As long as you are not starving yourself and eating correctly, I don't think the amount of calories you take matter- unless you are going over your calorie limit- then you won't lose weight. |

| Health & Support | Anxiety/Panic Attacks/Depression | Jan 28 2008 02:32 (UTC) |

Hey ... with depression exercise helps a lot. With panic attacks, I find that getting enough sleep and taking slow steps toward normal-everyday life activities work well. I get attacks when I feel rushed, or confused, or stressed over the many things that are going at one time. A clear schedule helps- where you can plan out things- it gives you a heads-up to what you should expect. Give yourself enough time, and give yourself some alone time where you can just sit and relax. Yoga classes teach breathing patterns that allow you to relax when all tensed up. Yoga is an excellent class to strengthen the mind and the body. I stay away from medication- I don't know, I feel that medicine doesn't give the body the chance to recover. Our bodies have such healing powers- I think that the right diet, exercising, enough sleep/ water, good hygiene balances the chemicals in the body which triggers healing. I know I sound like some pro new age- crap person... but seriously, our bodies heal themselves, we just have to give it the chance. No one can get your life together, only you can. People can give you advice but you are the one who will have to do something about it. These feelings are horrible, I feel them all the time, but I think of them as reminders that life is hard. You have to fight for it. Surround yourself with people who will support you and your "flaws." Be okay with yourself, I think that is the biggest medicine in the world. |
