| Weight Loss | It's lose not loose | May 15 2009 02:28 (UTC) |

In defense of English teachers, it's insanely difficult to NOT pass someone in public school anymore (at least in all of the states I've worked in). I mean INSANELY. I've had parents come to me to request their child be held back, but the state Department of Public Instruction won't allow it. It's pretty ridiculous. So, yes, I've passed kids who don't know how to make plurals into possessives, don't understand the difference between "it's" and "its," and even kids who have consistently written "I should of went to the store." Oh, man, it makes me want to cry! I've recently made them read Orwell's essay http://www.mtholyoke.edu/acad/intrel/orwell46 .htm in an attempt to at least minimize things like "taken for granite" (HA!). Also, it drives me absolutely crazy when people use the nominative "I" all the dang time because they think it sounds smart: "This is a photo of my mom and I." ARRRRRRRRRRRRRGH! |

To add to this one - why can I only view one DAY at a time from 2008? Is this just me, or is it the analysis tool? |

Well, I walk a lot during the day, so I had put my activity as "light," and then added in calories burned when I worked out based on my heart rate monitor -- usually between 180-230, which is how I came to the 2100 (oh, with light activity, that puts me about 1900, plus the extra).

Thanks, grenflowers. I definitely strength train about 4 times a week. I'm consuming between 1700-1800 calories/day on average, and I burn about 2100. I don't have much left to lose, so I try to keep a small deficit. I just can't figure out how or why I would physically be getting bigger! |

Um, I'm open to adding some cardio, but I am not open to low weight/high reps. Check out the fitness boards. Thanks though. |

I just started this video and am a little skeptical, as I've never been a workout video person. But, I have to say that I do love her! Very no-nonsense, simple stuff that pushes you really hard. I hope I will be able to report success! |

Okay, I did it two days in a row and I literally can barely walk...I may take today off, especially given that I don't think I could even go for a leisurely walk ;)
ETA: If I could do it every day, though, is there any harm in that? |

I did this for the first time yesterday and it definitely kicked my butt... ...my question is, how many of you are actually doing this every day? Time-wise, I'm pretty certain I could fit it in (though perhaps not today given how sore I am!), but with the strength training, is it really wise to do it every day? I mean, do my muscles have enough time to recover? |

I could be WAY off, but it sounds to me like zhillas might be asking how to log her own cheese/butter etc. If this is true, then zhillas, you need to click on the "add it here" button that appears above and to the right of your daily log. If this isn't what you were asking, sorry! |

I know that various medicines really interact with people's bodies differently, so that's something you may want to think about. And, given that you're following a nutritionist's plan, you certainly may want to think about going back in to your doctor to discuss other medical reasons for your situation. Lexapro did not make my body happy! I am on Wellbutrin now and I really love it -- if anything, I would say it makes me a tad less hungry than I normally am. |

Original Post by muttlover:
What a fabulous idea! I don't know why that never occurred to me... I do find that if it's somehow difficult to get seconds, I am far less likely to. Also, sounds a little simplistic (and I think I read about it on CC but can't remember where), but what's worked for me these past few days is when I get cravings or think I'm hungry, I take a few seconds to breathe and explain to myself (in my head) that it's my brain that wants X, not my body...and I will be making my body happy if I eat/do Z instead...surprisingly, I usually end up wanting to make my body happy (which is what my brain confused in the first place, if that makes sense) and not my brain. |

THANKS, all! These past few days have been MUCH better (except for the Chipotle burrito I just had for lunch!); I've been eating completely minimal sugar but allowing myself unlimited amounts (within reason) of veggies and most fruits. I have to say, I feel about 100x healthier! The weekend might be a little harder, but I'm trying to stay positive.

| Health & Support | Is this anxiety? | Apr 30 2008 20:31 (UTC) |

I've struggled with anxiety a lot, and it definitely sounds like this might be what's going on with you. In fact, I can completely relate to being "anxious about being anxious!" Furthermore, when I first realized that's what was going on, I swear I became anxious about the fact that I was anxious about being anxious! I eventually received some medication in conjunction with therapy for my anxiety and panic attacks, but one thing that helps me a lot is taking deep breaths and actually allowing myself to feel whatever the feeling is, instead of berating myself for feeling a certain way and then trying to get the feeling to stop. It sounds silly, but just saying to myself, "I'm really upset right now because of X. It's okay to feel upset," and the like really helps. Eventually the feeling goes away on its own and I'm not nearly so unhappy in the meantime! |

| Weight Loss | Question for all- Conscious Bingeing? | Apr 29 2008 20:01 (UTC) |
|
I completely agree with leelee. I'm generally not a "subconscious" type of eater, meaning that 99% of the time I am fully aware of what I'm doing. Usually, though, during binges of 3000 calories up, I'm not thinking much at all except to justify my behavior. For me, this is a symptom of binge eating, negative overeating, disordered eating, whatever you want to call it, because then later I feel guilty and channel a lot of anger towards myself. All this to say that I think it can be a pretty personal thing, and you have to examine the reasons and ramifications of what you're doing to determine if the behavior is binge-like, negative behavior/eating. |

I've heard of a couple people eating those toddler snacks, too, jennasourus! I haven't, but I remember when I babysat for a little one a few years ago, some of those graham-cracker-type snacky-things were quite yummy! My question would be for how long one would actually stay full... |

keeljm, thanks so much -- you are such an inspiration! And a special WOW to your change in dress size; that is absolutely phenomenal!! I would love to hear more about how you accomplished such great weight loss. And yes, because my issue is pretty much "vanity pounds" (although Lord knows I'd feel so much healthier without these last 10!), it can be difficult to get going, or to convince myself that I need to make changes.

bugsylover, that is pretty much EXACTLY how I feel! I've been consuming 3000 calories a day or more, wake up hungry (I never used to be that person -- I always had to force something for breakfast down) and then eat ALL day long! This morning, my pants didn't fit, and I realize I've gained all this weight because I'm not listening to my body or treating it well...but there's something in me that just doesn't seem to care, and gets me to continue eating and eating and eating...I just feel miserable :( |

I don't know why I always feel surprised (pleasantly!) when I get so much support on CC! You guys are SO awesome :) I have been to the doctor's recently to check on my thyroid specifically, as hypothyroidism runs in my family, but my levels are on the underactive side of normal, if that makes sense -- not enough to warrant medication, anyhow. Although kehudson, I would also be interested (if you're comfortable sharing) in what your doctor found out when you went and what he/she put you on. I'm glad to hear others can relate and will definitely try all your tips! It's a great idea just to start replacing all the junk with good stuff before worrying about getting lower in calorie intake (though obviously that will happen naturally when I'm not eating candy all day)...that is job one. And I will try to forget about the M&Ms I ate for breakfast this morning. |

^^ Yup, if you're doing strength training, it's likely your muscles are sucking up some water. You can probably find out more about this on the fitness board. Your muscles will always do this while they're repairing, but I think after you've been strength training for a while, the noticeable difference will be quite small. |

Gosh, I don't know how to catch up w/all of you! I'll try to read every post this weekend ;) but I just wanted to check in and let y'all know I'm alive...although not doing so hot. My bingeing isn't really bingeing anymore, now my eating seems to just be out of control all day, every day...I've gained 10 pounds in the past month and I can't seem to get myself to care (although I def don't feel good about it)! More later... |

I pretty much only graze all day...which means my tummy is really small (or it feels like it can't hold very much, rather, and this is good for going out to eat!)...and that I'm hardly ever hungry! Hmm, I guess technically you could say I'm hungry all the time...but that's not a shocker ;) |

Oh, hon, you neat to eat! Shoot, I can't remember what article I read this in, but it was saying that the closer you are to your goal weight (which it sounds like you are), the less deficit your body "likes" to lose weight. That means weight will come off super-slowly, of course, but it will come off...I'll go look for the article... |
