Here's another idea (especially after hearing the Olive Garden) that I recommend for constant dining out. Eat slowly and only eat half of what's on your plate. Then take the rest home and eat it later or pawn it off on your family/friends. Anytime I eat out I end up over eating and feeling sick all night because the American restaurant industry gives you 3xs the portion you should get. Therefore, look at the food on your plate and make some kind of line through it and tell yourself you're simply not going to cross that line. Also, chug a lot of water. It will make you feel much fuller, and, if you're me, it will give you four of your eight glasses. ^.^ (As for desert, take a bite or two of your friends and be done. It's expensive, anyway. ;_; Although, that's more difficult for me.) |

Thanks for all the suggestions!!! I never realized there were so many things you could make in the microwave.... I always equated microwave with hot pockets, ramen, and other unhealthy things. I will also look into slow-cookers/griddles/rice cookers. I'm not the best at figuring out and then following recipes, but they have to be out there. I'll have to learn one day, right? (Although, it's also discouraging to read a recipe that serves 8, make it, and then eat 4 servings because I'm by myself!!! I guess I should just modify them.) Also, I know I should probably just talk to my roommates, but I'm kind of an avoidance person and my boyfriend and I will have a place in a few months anyway so it seems like I should just stick it out. =( |

| If your anti-depressant is destroying your motivation, you should consider talking to your doctor and changing meds. It's supposed to make you more motivated, more excited about life and making positive changes in your life. Of course every med. affects everyone different, but that's why you have to talk closely with your doctor and get the right one for you. | |||

Missing classes is definitely the worst - at least college classes. Professors can be very unsympathetic and I always feel so guilty. =( Load up on your vitamin C and feel betters! =^. .^= |

If you don't want kids then the only side affects of BC pills should be positive for you: shorter, lighter, less painful periods and no children. BTW - Hysterectomy isn't really good for anyone and to say you're concerned about the side effects of BC and not the side affects of taking all the hormones you'd have to take after having a hysterectomy is simply inane. Do some research on these things. I know more than one woman who has endured one. And it's not just that other people want you to have kids. It's that it's a major medical procedure and you clearly don't know what you have to go through after you get one. |

I really do believe keeping yourself occupied is the best thing you can do for yourself. But it's also not the end of the world if you screw up once and again. You can't change immediately. Be nice to yourself. You're still a good person. You're still taller than me and weight less!!! =) *hug* |

Hey! I just joined yesterday, but thought it was funny because we seem very similar! I'm 5'7'', 159 lbs, and I also want to be 140 in May. I gained about 15 lbs in the past two years, and I'm 21. I find it's much easier to add everything (and I feel guiltier) by counting my calories on this site so it motivates me as well. Good luck! But it looks like you're headed in the right direction! |

Don't stay in your room! This might be difficult, but if you distract yourself, it can go a long way. For instance, I like to write. I'll take my laptop out to a park or something and write. I'm not typically as self motivated to write when I'm sitting alone in my room feeling lonely and sad and thinking about everything I should be doing. (This also works for homework. Doing homework out of my room seems to help a lot! Even if I go somewhere like Panera, where there are lots of people and lots of food, I'll sit down with a nice salad or sandwich on sourdough and feel a lot better about the general state of my life than if I'm alone wolfing down a bag of chips and won't be so tempted for their muffins...) Other things you can try to get out of the house and distract you from eating: Visit the student center, go to bookstores, join a gym and do gym classes (you'll never be more motivated to work out then when other people are doing better than you and you look very lame in comparison), get your iPod and walk around campus, take an extracurricular class like painting or knitting at Michaels, etc. And don't, don't walk down the soda/snack food aisle at the grocery store!!!! (I made this mistake too many times to count. I now just don't even look at that aisle...) |

I would think he was average. Especially for a 17 year old. He's still growing anyway and the fat he may have will redistribute itself, particularly if he starts working out. And you're right, 140 is completely unrealistic for someone who wants to put on muscle mass!!!! Muscle weighs more than fat. He can't both be muscular and a stick. Maybe you should consider measuring instead of weighing. (I.E. how thick his waist is, that sort of thing. I think of that as more important than the number on the scale.) |

A note on therapy: You have to work and find the right therapist. I've had some really crappy therapists, some that have been no help at all, and some that immediately got to the root of the problem and showed me what I had to do. All I'm saying is don't give up on it entirely. As for the working out... I agree with the sports team theory. Or cut down the time and do it every day. Maybe an hour of yoga one day, and hour of cardio the next, and hour of weights the next. It's better to vary the exercise your doing rather than do the same routine all the time. |

It's true drinking cold water burns more calories - but it's not a good idea to drink ice cold water after working out! It will shock your system because your body is so hot, but room temperature is fine. The rest of the time, though, it doesn't seem like a bad idea. Ice water tastes better to me, anyway. (Maybe psychological?) |

| I think it's probably pretty normal. Even though you may have been pretty regular, I don't think women truly even out until their twenties. Probably just your life style changes - working out and such - and stress (as you must be a senior now, huh?) have shook it up. 12 pounds in 3 months really isn't enough of a reason for your period to miss unless you were in an unhealthy BMI. I wouldn't worry about it if you're 100% you're not pregnant. ^_^ | |||

So you can log your weight -- which allows you to do the following:
- Plot your weight curve
- Analyze the trend of your weight (see under Recent in the figure above)
- Determine the projected target date (see under Overall in the figure above)
