| Fitness | best treadmill @ Walmart? | Jul 24 2008 22:04 (UTC) |

I will say instead of getting an expensive treadmill I to bought the cheapest one Walmart had at the time (Image 3.0 I think is the model) and It has lasted me for the past 5 years of using it 5-6 times a month. But I am sure like everything just because mine has lasted, doesnt mean they all will.

I just bought a Timex one. I was leaning towards a Polar, but the fact that it only comes with a 6 month battery warranty and the reports are its $50+ to have them replace the battery when it dies, really gave me a bad taste about their products. I will let you know how the Timex works. |

| Weight Loss | Public Scale? | Jun 23 2008 17:47 (UTC) |

Most publixes have the huge scales, that I dont think I have ever seen moved.
But I mean you can get a decent scale for 20 bucks, but no matter what you do ever scale you step on will vary. I have 2 at home and sometimes they are dead on, sometimes they are 3-5 pounds different. To be honest the most accurate one (I define accurate as consistant) has been the wii fit. Though it differs from my other scale, it has atleast been consistant in what I way. |

There is no way to specify what fat the body burns. Sounds like if you keep going the body will eventually get rid of that fat to.
And I am no fitness guru, I am still learning this stuff myself but thats the general idea I have gotten from my readings on this site |

Wow, I may have to go back and check and see if they are sold out yet? As far as the activity log, when you first choice your mii, and it is on the screen with the graph, there are 3-4 choices on the corners of the graph. One of them has a Activity Log. I only found it because it was one of the tips that the board gives you on loading. |

I am suprised its sold out. I went to Walmart yesterday early, and I had thought about buying 2 incase some friends werent able to get, and Worst case scenario, resell it. But Walmart ahd like 7 in the case, and there was no line and noone seemed in a hurry to get it, I then went later to a Gamestop and another Walmart later that day and both had plenty in stock.
And curious was anyone excited to see the activity log on wii fit, only to be disappointed that the choices of stuff to log were "Light, Normal, and hard" |

Personally I am not as impressed with it. If I had to sum up the Wii Fit, I would call it an Interactive Fitness DVD. The exercises to me seem to be way to short, though it does seem like you can unlock longer sessions as you go. The yoga and strength seem to be solid exercises for people who do not want to use weights, however the aerobics seemed to be lacking. Let me preface by saying I have never taken an aerobics class so this is really my first taste of stepping and what not. I did the steps to unlock all three stages (Step, Advanced, and Free Step) and it seems way to easy. Maybe If I raise the wii board so its a bigger step it may prove more of a challenge, but I was able to do both stages, and then 20 min on the free step and barely broke a sweat (and I am not that in shape, I am just under 300). The Advanced Hula Hoop seems to get your heart rate going, and is the only exercise that I really feel got me sweating, but I did it after doing all the steps, and the Hula Hoop enough to unlock Advanced.
The Fun Factor I am really hoping games find a great way to use the wii board in their games, because wii fit, outside of being a "different workout" isnt fun. I mean as far as exercising and working out goes, its alot more fun then running on a treadmill for an hour, but if this was suppose to make working out so much fun you forget you are working out? It missed its mark. As far as being a solid workout I think it can be, but Nintendo really screwed up by not allowing predefined workout reutines, I hate having to go reaching for the remote, or hold the remote the whole time I am on the board. Without being able to define reutines you spend a little time exercising and alot of time on the menues. The thing that confused me the most is when I did the lunges in strength, it told me to kill 2 birds in one stone and do the warrior yoga pose as well, so it seemed like I could set it up to do them both at the same time or back to back, but besides it giving me a check mark after i did both, that seemed to be it. My kids were excited after seeing all the hype for the games, as was I, I mean alot of this looked like stuff I use to see at Epcot and things growing up, so I was excited to get an "at home version." But this is not kid friendly at all (mine are 5-7). I do not know if we just havent gotten the hang of shifting our weight the way it wants us to, but we tried the soccer ball blocking game for a good 30-45 min and the guy on screen was always delayed, could be a wireless delay or it wasnt reading our shifting weight right, or somehow we just dont know how to shift our weight, but we could never get anything over 1 star on that game. Even though we all did well on the balance tests.
Anyways do I regret buying it? No, not really. Did it live up to all the hype? No, not really. |

| Fitness | The bike!! | May 20 2008 15:33 (UTC) |

I personally love my stationary bike. It makes watching tv feel less like a waste of time. The only bad thing about the stationary bike is it seems to easy. I do the hardest predefined 30 min workout it comes with, and the tension gets high, but it just seems way to easy. But that being said, I have lost a bit of weight doing it, but is it because of the bike or everything else I am doing, either way it beats sitting on the couch watching tv. While on the topic anyone figured out how to chart calories burned from the bike? The bike tells me I burn about 200 calories in 30 min, but the site tells me I burn about 600 in that time frame. I guess the only way to know for sure is to get a polar, but we will see. |

How do you have it already? I was understanding it wasnt being released until the middle of May. I plan on buying it for sure. If nothing else for my Kids. My kids are like all kids love video games, but we limit them to a very small time on it. But with the wii, its kinda throws a wrench into the whole ball game. My son will wear himself out with wii sports and doing the boxing, and I am sure with the wii fit, he will equally wear himself out, and hopefully keep us motivated to "play" with him. I will say that with the world of Video Games I am loving the Wii. My son looks forward to his 30 min or so we let him play games a few times a week, and if we can keep him playing the active games like Wii sports, DDR, (and soon to come wii fit) over the tedious uneventful ones I will be happy. As far as wii fit, I think anyone who does it alone to lose weight will be disappointed. I do not think we are going to see a new wave of skinny gamers appearing out of no where, but is it better then sitting on the couch punching buttons? For sure. |

| Fitness | Is my workout enough? | Feb 29 2008 02:26 (UTC) |

Thanks I appreciate the advice. Cardio has been the thing I have stuck with the most. I have been doing cardio for the past 2 months daily, and have just in the past few weeks started weight training, and I agree with you, I have been all over the map trying to get a routine I like and can stick to. If you have a routine that is good for someone new to the gym, I would love to hear it. With what I have been doing I can tell I am working out, but it just doesnt feel productive. I am sure there are many beginners on this site that would love for a basic routine laid out. What is your opinion on Cardio? Is a mixture of HIIT and endurance cardio good? Or should I stick with one or the other? |

I appreciate the input, but I have pulled my workout ruetine from reading and taking sample workouts from various websites. The Cardio, I kinda agree with you about not doing enough, but from what I have read, most people discourage long drawn out cardio sessions. So I have decided to be safe and just do both, so half the time I do HIIT (Currently doing one of the program where slowly you add more HIIT sessions as you go, ie for the first 4 weeks you do 3 sets of sprinting and jogging, week 5-8 you do 4 etc) So as I go that will get longer. My biggest concern is I am doing my ruetine in around 30 min (Not including Cardio), where it seems others spend alot more time in the gym. So I am wondering If I am not doing enough, or is it maybe because I am going more often instead of only going once or twice a week. Anyways any input is appreciated |

| Young Calorie Counters | Need College tips!! (on how to not drink...) | Feb 05 2008 15:55 (UTC) |

You need better drunken friends. Most of the time when we would get drunk, a drunken game of football, ultimate frisbee, or some other game we would make up (Drunken Olympics anyone?) would ultimately burn off most of the calories we would consume. Also put the school gym to use! |

I do not know of a college in the USA that does not have a gym students can use for free. Even the community colleges here have pretty nice gyms for the students. I would check that out first. |
