The Lounge worst insult you ever got because of your weight.... Mar 12 2008

When I was about 15, I was walking to class and two boys behind me shouted 'THUNDERTHIGHS!' really loudly, and everyone just stared, pointed and whispered at me.

I still have a complex about my thighs.

Err....it cost me £40 to fill up my car a few months ago, I dread to think what it'll be when I next go home.

Seriously, stop complaining, its about time you had to pay a more 'reasonable' price; the rest of us have dealt with this for years!!

Weight Loss What constitutes a 'binge'? Mar 10 2008

Thats what I assumed a 'binge' would be; the complete lack of control.

Its just confusing; and a little strange to me that so many people claim they've had a 'binge' by going over their DEFICIT by about 200 calories!

Craziness!

Nobody hates vegetables really! No offence, but thats a very childish thing to say!

You've probably just destroyed your tastebuds after years of high fat foods; maybe try and start small; Im a massive advocate of the stir-fry, load of vegetables, noodles and some chicken or something is always a nice low-calorie meal (watch the oil though!)

And definitely start eating breakfast, it'll set you up for the day so you don't crave fatty foods so much; some cereal and fruit is a good basis. And incorporate snack times as well to keep your calories/energy up so you're less likely to fall back on the quick energy boost!

Also, being a stay at home mum doesn't necessarily mean you have to stay at home - take your child to the park/on walks, you'll get some excercise and he'll burn off some energy so you \can relax in the afternoons!

Finally, definitely check out the recipies and other tips on these forums as they've been invaluable to me, and you'll probably also find some groups for people in a similar situation; just explore!

Anyway, hope that was useful (kind of!) and Good Luck!!

Its definitely not depressing! I'm loosing at least a pound per week, have tons of energy and am getting to enjoy eating food without that guilty - 'Im gonna get fat...' feeling!

And, when I work-out or play sports, Im getting faster, stronger and have more stamina!

Embrace it!

Because your body starts storing everything as fat.

Of course if you restrict to purely vegetables and run two miles a day, you will loose weight....and muscle.....and probably start to binge eat through exhaustion and depression before putting it all back on....

Your body is cleverer than you think, and will find a way to retain fat or force you into eating what it needs.

Weight Loss how many calories to eat???? Mar 06 2008
17:46 (UTC)

If you want to loose weight, not more than 1000 less than what you burn; so 1540 calories at the bare minimum!

But probably a good idea to eat about 1800.

A little off topic, I was wondering this too - but also, how bad is soy sauce? I tend to have it six or seven times a week - didnt realise how much sodium was in it.

Wise to cut down?

Today I ate:

Breakfast: Half a bowl of All-Bran mixed in with some Quaker Oats and Skimmed Milk

Mid Morning: One Banana and a light hot chocolate

Lunch: A wholemeal pitta with tuna and a little grated cheese

Mid Afternoon: A Bag of Cashew Nuts (about 40g)

Dinner: A Vegetable Stir Fry with Egg and some Chicken

Evening Snack: A Small Bowl of Muesli with Skimmed Milk

Was all delicious and about 1500 calories.

(Would also like to point out that hardly any of it was diet/low cal/low fat food-it was all just healthy, fresh, normal food - come on portion control!!!)

Woah, I can easily eat more than that in a day, loosing weight, and I weigh half of what you do!

You really need to add more - I'd suggest nuts as snacks, can't go wrong really! And you could always add some wholemeal bread; have a sandwich sometimes instead of a wrap - its a bit more substantial.

jules817, yes I think that comment was necessary, this is an incredibly immature situation, exacerbated by the attention shes now receiving on these forums, and I think its ridiculous.

The reason shes discussing this on here instead of with someone she knows is probably because they'd say the same thing as I did.

I thought it was really interesting and quite helpful actually, its no so much hypnotism as re-training your body how to think and feel about food - i.e. stopping when you're full.

I think its well worth watching.

Weight Loss QUICK loss ever become long term loss? Mar 03 2008

I had pneumonia once, and when I recovered and left hospital, I'd lost about 15lbs, was amazing!

But then I ate looooooads, partly because I felt so weak, partly because my mother was determined I eat huge amounts of food so I recovered properly, and partly because I justified to myself that I could eat all of it cause Id lost all that weight and it wouldn't make a difference!

Suffice to say I gained it all back, but I needed too! Don't think its ever possible to maintain weight loss after illness, you'd just never get better.

Thats a good point actually, I have a problem of always equating 'snacks' with being unhealthy! I am trying with the bananas, I guess I need to increase the amount/quality of the food! Your suggestions sound delicious and thankyou!!

Im not an expert, but Id say an easy way would be lots of *grilled* meat for protein and wholegrain foods like bread, pasta and stuff.

And maybe walk a bit more - was that a typo or FIVE minutes walk, FIVE days a week??? You should really get out more if that wasn't an error!
