Logically, I would think that 110 calories sounds correct. If it's just veggies and turkey, it wouldn't add up to 378 calories unless it was really big!

Clint, the reason for the entire week-end is two-fold:

1. I love food and eating what I enjoy (which, unfortunately, isn't always leafy greens)

2. In the past, I've "gotten away with" eating what I want on the week-ends, and not gaining weight.

Moral of the story: it's not working anymore. I have to stick with one meal once in a while. Undecided

Because I'm experiencing the same thing, I wonder if it is okay to have an increased calorie intake on the week-ends, but keep it below maintenance calories. For example, if 1,500 is our calorie goal, could we eat that Monday through Friday, and then up it to 2,000 on the week-ends?

Thanks for your input, gi-jane. I was hoping you'd say I should up my calories! LOL!

I know I need to get a handle on my week-ends. My small victory this past week-end was keeping the "fun" eating to two days only...not two and a half like week-ends past.

I do eat every two hours - very clean choices (during the week). I weigh everything...I don't even trust measuring cups anymore. In retrospect, my success last year most likely had to do with the fact that I would allow myself one cheat meal per week...not two cheat days!

I keep very up-to-date with physicals and blood work, and have had nothing but healthy reports. I think it probably just boils down to food-infested week-end.

Thanks again!

I'm 1/2 Norwegian, 1/2 Swedish, and as my mother always told me, I have a barrel-chest. Thanks. I never gave it much thought, but I think there must be something to it! I do have a big gap between my boobs. Hmmm.

On a positive note, it sounds like Scandinavian women carry their weight well, and are typically strong, so that's good.

My poor daughter doesn't have much hope in the cleavage department...her Dad is full-blooded Norwegian! LOL!

I ordered mine online from Chapters. All you need is a set of hand-weights.

I've heard others say it, and I'll say it too: It's seriously the best workout DVD I've ever tried!

The cardio was definitely more intensive!

Hi there,

I recently started the 30 Day Shred, but have only done level 1...now I'm scared! LOL!

I've been breaking up my regular 60 minute workout into 3, 20 minute workouts. I run for 20 minutes in the morning, have a 20 minute walk later on, and do the DVD later in the day. That way I'm able to give each shorter workout my 'all' instead of putzing out midway through. Doing your treadmill business after the DVD would probably be better. It seems to me that I've heard saving your cardio workout for after your strength training is better, as strength training is more beneficial. Of course, the DVD is a combination of both of those things...but it wouldn't hurt to try switching the order of your workout and seeing how you feel.

Just an idea!

I'm surprised at how this thread was pounced on with such force! I've read many posts about detox diets, and I think nursemeow was treated very rudely.

I've never heard of the slim fast detox, but I certainly have been tempted to try different detox methods. From what I understand, though, clean eating and working out enough to sweat a lot will do fabulous things for getting rid of toxins.

Weight Loss How many calories to burn at the gym? Jan 03 2009

An HRM (heart rate monitor) is worn on a strap around your chest. It measures your heart rate and calculates the calories you burn according to the height, weight, sex and age that you program into it.

Nevertheless, If you calculate the number of calories you burn in a day, and create a combined deficit through exercise and diet, you should have a fine time losing those pounds again. I know I'm not alone in recommending adding weights to your routine, though.

Best of luck!

How are you calculating the amount of calories you burn at the gym? I've heard that the machines that give you the amount of calories burned tend to be inaccurate. If you're using a heart rate monitor, you should be getting a pretty good idea.

I'd say 1,00 calories per workout is HUGE! Of course, the amount of calories burned depends on your size and the length and intensity of workout. Personally, I work out 5 days a week, burning 600 calories per workout (verified with a HRM), so I guess that works out to 3,000 calories per week, just like yours does. I find that that amount of calories burned in a workout, combined with a modest deficit, works well. However, my workouts incorporate a lot of weight lifting, too, which you should think about adding to your workout, IMO.

During the day, we keep the house at 19 C, 21 when everyone's home, and 18 when we're in bed.

The part that makes me gag is that our detached garage is heated, too. I watch our money pour out the chimney every time that furnace turns on. It doesn't help that it's been -30 C for the past week.

Juliemae2: I totally thought you meant that you cut all the decorations up and burn them in the fire. It sounded really ouchy and dangerous! LOL!

We celebrate Christmas with my husband's family on Christmas Eve. We always read the Christmas story, eat and open gifts. When I arrived on the scene 12 years ago, they (thankfully) had already dispensed of the "perform for your presents" routine. YIKES! When I was a kid, we always opened one gift on Christmas Eve from our parents - always a new pair of jammies! And now my babies do the same.

On Christmas day we wake early and open gifts. Breakfast is always croissants and cheese and then we sit around play with gifts and eat what we call "turkey buns" (turkey leftovers on buns...go figure).

We have a retired racing greyhound who has been without an official walk for a few days now...he keeps giving me dirty looks, but he also refuses to wear the $50 boots I bought for him.

I'm not at all qualified to give you sound advice about what you're going through, but the last thing I want is for you to think that no one cares.

Obviously you know that what you're doing is harmful to you. In this situation, you're the only one who can turn it around. There are so many resources on CC as well as the internet in general that can provide you with the information you need to lose the weight you want to drop.

Do you have family or friends you can talk to about this? Someone to at least hold you accountable?

I eat a 300-350 calorie breakfast (1/2 cup oatmeal [measured before cooked], 1 scoop of whey protein and 1 tbsp. of flax seeds) at 8 a.m. and then workout from 9:15 to 10:15. Sometimes, after following that same formula, my workouts are amazing. Sometimes...not so much.

I do take two days off (typically Thursday and Sunday). I still log at least 10,000 steps those days, but I don't do any dedicated "exercise".

My knees have been bothering me a bit, and that may be what's holding me back today. My concern, though, is not working out hard enough.

First of all, I guess I should clarify that what I'm doing is in fact interval training...perhaps I'm calling it that, and that's not actually what I'm doing! Laughing

I run for 2 minutes at 0% incline, and then increase the incline by 2% for a minute. After a minute, I drop it down and run at 0%, and then after a minute raise it to 4% and repeat up to 10% incline after 10 minutes. Then I switch to speed intervals for 10 minutes.

Anyhow, I alternate upper body and lower body day to day, so there is a rest.

Should I change what I'm doing? If so, what should I do?

I embarrassed to say that I am doing the same kind of workout 4 days a week:

20 minutes interval training on the treadmill

20 minutes of weights (interspersed with quick spurts of cardio to keep my heartrate up)

10 minutes of intervals on the treadmill

10 minutes of weights

1 day a week a just do a treadmill warmup, a step aerobics session, and a treadmill cooldown.

Soooooo....you think overtraining and neural fatigue? It's minus 30 degrees C here right now, so I'm limited to my home gym (Hoist system, free weights and treadmill).
