Yes, I agree with everyone who said to find a store and sell them. A store in a college town will probably be the best bet, they usually have lots of buyers who want vinyl. |

I know that some people have intolerances, but you've said you don't like the taste of green tea. I think that perhaps you've not tried the right kind, because I think there are several dozen (if not hundresds) of varieties of green tea. Indeed, I understand disliking the taste if you tried one of the more traditional varieties of green tea; in my opinion, many matchas and senchas taste like dirt and grass clippings! But I'm no expert, and certainly not a connoisseur. Some green teas are more earthy while others are floral, and still others have been flavored with fruit. Also, allowing them to steep too long or too short can produce adverse tastes. Often over-steeped teas are bitter. I think you should consider giving green tea another chance. Maybe buy a sampler of green teas from Republic of Tea, or Stash, or another brand. Maybe take a friend with you who likes green tea, and go to a tea house or a tea shop or a cafe with a good selection of green tea. Ask questions of the employees there, do a round of taste-testing, and try to keep an open mind. I guess if you're still disliking green tea after that, you could try white tea -- it's very mild and also full of antioxidants, with many fruity flavors. Good luck! |

As my husband is fond of saying, never say it couldn't get worse! However, with that nasty bit of pessimism out of the way, I'd like to say that you sound like an exceptionally strong and smart woman. I know it's not fair, but often we strong, smart women find ourselves carrying the heavy burdens for our families. Emotionally and sometimes physically, even. So take a moment and give yourself credit for being Superwoman, you deserve it. We recognize you through your disguise, too. Be good to yourself, take a few minutes just for yourself every day, and don't lose hope! You're not alone. |

I can't stand the oil-packed variety. That said, what ever floats your boat is fine for you. I like to (really really) drain a can of tuna, add half a cup of dry oats, and mix in an egg, then make tuna burgers on a lightly greased skillet. Great with cheese and ketchup. mustard, relish. Also, just tuna on toast, topped with cheese and put under the broiler for a few minutes is good. |

It was a double-whammy for me last month, I'm a 2008 participant and winner of NaNoWriMo -- which serisously cut into the hours I had left in the day -- and then we celebrated Thanksgiving twice, or three times if you count the turkey enchiladas with cousins. I'm up five pounds, or maybe three, depending on the day. Tomorrow is my 29th birthday. I'm still 15 pounds under where I started, but I'd like to make it down to 135lbs. in 2009. Time to get moving again. I'll start by taking my little dogs for walks every day. There's really no excuse when it's 60 degrees outside. We're broke, and I only have a few visits left on my gym punch card, so I'm saving them for January or February. It's just me and my mp3player in the basement...with a jump rope. And maybe an excersize ball. ROCK ON! |

That would be awesome. I'm easy to keep track of -- I'm situationgirl here and situationgirl there. And I just made it to 7513 words tonight. Edit: Plus, I really like what emzee suggested. I'm just going to plan out my next day's meals when I'm writing down my plot/story/idea notes before I go to bed. Then in the morning I can portion them out before I get going on the typing. |

| The Lounge | 2nd marriage and gift registration! | Nov 03 2008 00:05 (UTC) |

My husband and I each had fully functioning households when we got married, and we didn't register for gifts, because there wasn't anything we needed. When people asked we told them we weren't registered and didn't need anything. But we got gifts anyway! Sometimes I think we should have registered, just to reduce the humber of gifts we got that we couldn't use. I understand if you don't want to register, but as hayleymajayley says, it's generally not accepted to print anything about gifts on the invitation. However, if your fiancee wants to register, it would help the people who are going to buy you gifts, whether or not you want them to. There are things you can register for that you might simply want but not need, like movies, electronics, and such. |

What bothers me more is that people don't care. They don't care that they're putting other people at risk. They don't care that they could kill someone, or put them in the hospital for months. You know, when automobiles were first invented, many people thought that travelling faster than 30mph would drive a person insane. I'm not so sure we haven't gone insane. Where did this fascination with speed come from? Since when did the need to do something FAST replace the need to do it well or safely? |

I appreciate people who go the speed limit. I was in a bad accident this year, I was only going 20-25 mph (the speed limit), but I was hit so hard that my car rolled. So, when I'm on the freeway, I go the speed limit, and sometimes if the speed limit is 75mph, I may only go 68-70mph because YOU SHOULD NEVER DRIVE FASTER THAN WHAT YOU'RE COMFORTABLE WITH SIMPLY BECAUSE EVERYONE ELSE IS. It terrifies me to see people take so many risks and swerve in and out, and drive faster than they need to, faster than what's safe. How can you be so cavalier with all the lives around you, and even your own? Driving is an immense responsibility, and too many people forget that. Sorry, my pet peeve is people who drive so fast that they don't give me a chance to get into the right lane! (My ramp onto the freeway is a lefty.) |

| Foods | Alternative to boiling potatoes for mashed potatoes | Oct 21 2008 02:41 (UTC) |
7 |
Well, I'm no food expert, but the average potato's main nutritional value is starch, not so much in vitamins besides a tiny bit if Vitamin A and some Vitamin C. Sweet potatoes, or potatoes of other colors such as purple, offer more vitamins and such. For reference, I compared half a cup of boiled potato to half a cup of baked potato in the calorie logs. Boiled potato had 10 more calories per half cup and 1% more iron, baked potato had 3% more vitamin C. So, in my opinion, I think you're okay with the boiled potatoes. If you really feel you're losing some nutrients in the water, use some of the drained water as a mix-in, to make the potatoes a little smoother with mashing. |

The "Master Cleanse" is popular with people who have little or no understanding of how the body works. Basically, people who use the Master Cleanse follow a strict fasting schedule, interrupted by juice breaks. The "juice" is lemon juice, water, a teaspoon of honey, and a dash of cayenne pepper. It makes about as much sense as the "cube of cheese" diet (obviously a joke) described in the movie "The Devil Wears Prada." Any "cleanse" that involves severely restricted diets are not cleansing in any way. Your body only removes toxins by processing food and eliminating wastes through urination or defecation. If you have no food to process, your body will start to consume its muscles. People who "cleanse" tend to think it feels good because they get a sense of euphoria from lack of calories, so your body tries to make up for it in endorphins. Anyhow, it's sure to screw up your metabolism, and definitely mess with your blood sugar levels. |

Hi g.g. I hope you're feeling a little less distressed, I want to encourage you to not give up! Also, I think one moment of weakness won't negate your entire week of good healthy eating, so remember to be kind to yourself. Forgive yourself, and then move on to something you can use to distract yourself when you are in that situation in the future. If you think boredom is a trigger for you to over-eat, there are many things you can teach yourself to do at home that don't require a lot of mobility, depending on your interests. Many arts and crafts require both hands, and I use knitting or crochet, which keeps me from overeating (when I read, I usually have a free hand that likes snacking). But if you're not the yarny type, maybe clay sculpture, small carpentry or painting projects. Lastly, I'd like to point out that you already did something to help yourself quit those old habits - you reached out and posted this message! As you can imagine, there are many busy-bodies like me who do read and respond. And we're up at many hours of the night, so keep on working hard -- like you already are -- and things will get better. |

2600 Calories ought to be a good place for you to start losing weight. My husband's stats are similar, and his suggested intake is simlimar. If you look at your burn meter, it will show you the Calories you are burning each day, which is probably around 800 Calories more than the amount you're eating. There's your Calorie deficit. Just make sure that you adjust your intake/burn as you lose the weight. It takes a lot of energy to carry around extra weight; for example, a 270lb moderately active theoretical guy burns more Calories than a 225lb moderately active theoretical guy even though they may do the exact same things. Got it? |

Hi, I could be your buddy. I'm 28, 156lbs, with a goal weight of 134lbs, and a medium-small frame. I, too, have diebetes concerns - my doctor recently did a series of tests on my amylase levels, but they seem to have come down again after a month of being elevated. Type II diabetes is inherited on both sides of my family, and my dad is pre-diabetic now, though he's not overweight. I don't have a specific goal date set yet, but I'm doing a hard push to lose a lot by the end of December. |

Good luck to you and congratulations on the 18lbs! I went completely off my diet for three weeks and gained back 6lbs. That was last month - and it made me feel horrible! But I think it can happen to any of us. I work hard at planning better rewards for myself now - things that aren't food! When I lose 20lbs from my beginning weight I'm buying a new pair of my favorite style jeans, no matter if they're on sale or not. When I finally make it into the 140s I'm getting a salon appointment and a manicure. When I reach my goal weight in the 130s I'm going to buy myself a day at a spa with some fancy skin treatments. How do you plan on rewarding yourself? Do you have any short term goals? |

When I don't have time to make a trip to the rec center before it closes, I do a modified "circuit" that I read about in Prevention's Healthy Woman Abs Guide: 3 minutes of cardio, 2 minutes of strength training, 1 minute of abs, repeat for 36 minutes total. No resting, if you can help it. I modified it so I can do it in a little space in my basement. I usually use my mp3 player and dance for the three minutes, though you can do jumping jacks or jog in place - just keep your heart rate up. For the two minutes of strength training I usually try to do ten push ups alternated with pilates poses for arms and chest, but you can also buy yourself some 8lbs hand weights for relatively cheap and incorporate those. Or you could do squats and lunges for strength training if your arms give out. Then I do crunches for the last minute, alternating the styles so I work my obliques, too. How does that sound? Doable on a budget and in small spaces? |

I remember that being on depo was a pain in the butt. I hated it. Your doctor should be trying to cover that "maybe" period between the 16th-1st, so that's why she told you to take it on the 16th. If you choose not to start it yet, please use some other form of birth control until you do. |

Hi there, welcome! I actually think that you're doing pretty well! I was going to suggest that you persuade your family to do Papa Murphy's pizza, instead of ordering in, but it looks like you don't have Papa Murphy's out there yet. That's what I usually do with my husband, and he doesn't work out any more either. He says he wants to watch his calories, but what he means is that he wants me to watch his calories for him. Easier said than done. Ah, well. We tend to go out to eat once or twice a week. That being said, if there are other options, say, for you to make pizza at home, that might help you control what goes on it and how much of it you eat. Thin crust pizzas are lower in calories, and if you keep it to one or two slices and a side salad, you're probably doing pretty well. As for Chinese food, try to order steamed rice, and try to stay away from anything fried or with a syrupy sweet sauce. I usually ask for a box right away, and put half of my entree in it, so I'm not tempted to over eat. And lastly, one "anything goes" meal a week isn't going to deterr your progress too much, so be forgiving to yourself! Welcome, again. I hope this was helpful. |

This same thing happens to me when I run or work out at a really high intensity. I have to be careful to take my rings off ahead of time, or else sometimes it gets a little painful, but I think it's pretty normal. That's kind of what happens when you make your heart work hard, it pumps blood to your extremities. If it bothers you, look into those compression gloves that typists often wear (they have fingersleeves but no fingertips), or ask your doctor. |

Hi, First of all, you've been counting for eleven days, so be patient. My weight training teacher said that it can take up to four weeks before you start seeing a difference, because your body takes that long to adjust. It sounds to me like you're gaining muscle, which was your plan, right? That's generally what I've heard creatine is for, and most people I've met who use it are trying to put on muscle weight, which is not necessarily a bad thing. So gaining muscle while losing fat is going to make it hard for you to see the difference on the scale, see? Try using a non-weight measurement, like how your jeans fit, or even use a tape measure. That way you can measure a difference without using a scale. Also, since you seem to be into really intense workouts, I thought I might suggest reducing your Calorie deficit to 500-600 Cals per day -- right now you're running a deficit of twice that! Now, I'm a girl, so it may be different, but lots of things I have read have said that a 500 Cal deficit is plenty. I hear that having too high a Calorie deficit can do strange things to your body, so make sure you're eating enough. Also, make sure you're drinking plenty of water. I hope this helps, because it's just my humble ideas! |
