Oh man...no worries!! There is NOTHING wrong with you. lynnmm has given you some very good tips in her reply. I would second her suggestions.

Congrats on your new job! When I was 16, I worked at Dairy Queen. Looking back, it was one of the most fun jobs I have ever had, but it was hard work! When I first started training, I could NOT get the signature little loop on the top of the cone. It took a lot of practice and about a week or so! From then on, it was smooth sailing.

You have only been working for a couple of days, so cut yourself some slack. All new things take practice...even wrapping sandwiches! Good employers understand the learning curve involved with new hires and they expect it to take you a few days or weeks to get the hang of it (a couple months might create some problems!) Anyhow, take your time and if you get nervous, take a deep breath. If you are moving too slow for a customer, just say "Thanks for your patience, I'm training". Anyone with a heart will understand, plus starting a conversation with the customer will take some of the pressure off you.

You will be a Subway rockstar in no time.

Weight Loss whats causing my weight gain?! Jun 27 2009
21:36 (UTC)

When your body is not receiving enough energy from food, your metabolism slows down drastically. At this point, your body is burning calories as slowly as possible in an effort to conserve the energy you do have. The result is you hitting a plateau or sometimes even gaining. Our bodies are intelligent systems and will respond if they anticipate that food will not be available for an extended period of time.

Once you begin eating an increased amount of calories, it will probably take time for your body to adjust. You probably won't see immediate weight loss. Just keep exercising and eating balanced meals...in time, your metabolism will recover. About 2 lbs a week is the maximum amount you should lose- anything more is risky to your health.

Normally it would be logical that extra weight could be from muscle you are building at the gym, but I'm not so sure you could add muscle like that without proper nutrition. I would rely on measurements over the scale for an accurate understanding of your progress.

Not sure about the cereal you eat -I am sure that certain cereals probably do have a higher sodium content (as do most processed foods). Salt can hide where you least expect it. the only way to know for sure is to read labels. Your max sodium intake will vary based on age, health, etc. I am 25 and try to stay under 2000mg daily, plus I drink a lot of water. Ask your doctor if aren't sure or if you have high blood pressure.

Keep in mind, I'm no MD...I would encourage you to do research on your own to find out more info. Smile

i also agree that you could be retaining water. keep your sodium intake in check.

that in mind, if you are only consuming 700-800 calories per day, chances are great that your body is reacting to the lack of calories. you are not eating enough, so your body will begin to store any calories you put into it. its biological protection against starvation and could also explain the irregularities in your menstrual cycle. on top of this, if you are working out you are probably burning another 25-50% of those 800 calories each day.

the minimum calorie intake for a females is approximately 1200 calories(regardless of height and weight). anything less than this creates the risk of damaging your metabolism. from this minimum amount you should raise your intake based on your height, frame, and goals. as counterintuitive as it seems, you need to eat to lose weight. bump up your calories and you should see a loss.

good luck! Smile

i agree that it is very discouraging that someone could have such a distorted perspective of their own bodies. generally speaking, when you are that low of a weight and you begin to split hairs about "113lbs. vs. 111 lbs.", it's very likely that there is an underlying emotional or mental issue. of course, there are exceptions.

Actually, when you're already small...you can notice losing just a couple of pounds.

Of course if you're 200 pounds you're not going to notice a 2 pound loss. When you have less to lose, you can definitely seel the difference though.

I can see your point and I do not disagree completely...that is why I said "there are exceptions".

I am not sure if you continued to read my post, but I went on to say that sometimes those who are unhappy after getting down to a reasonable weight are not training properly. You have said that you need to strength train in order to be in shape, which I think is accurate. My point was simply that three pounds may make a huge difference for someone of small build, but usually it has more to do with fitness than actual body fat.

you're definitely not crazy. 113 doesn't come close to overweight unless you are 4'8"!

i think sometimes results may be disappointing when someone crash diets without doing much in the way of exercise and fitness. being toned at 123lbs can look much better than untoned at 113lbs. sometimes the number gets in the way of a person allowing themself to build muscle mass.

all that aside, you seem to have healthy goals laid out for yourself...which is great! my goal weight is similar to my weight at the beginning of college (roughly 7 years ago). i was very comfortable with my body then and know that's probably very close to where i should be in terms of BMI and activity level. stats are below. best of luck to you!!!

Weight Loss Need some help! Advice on my diet/exercise regime! Dec 04 2008
21:13 (UTC)

Hi there:

Well, congrats to you for being fit enough to do the things you are doing. It sounds like you are very physically active and that's fantastic!

First and foremost, make sure that your scale is accurate before you do anything else. From your post, it sounds like you might want to buy a new one!Smile

One thing to keep in mind is that your level of physical activity is bound to build a lot of muscle. Perhaps you could get more detailed information regarding your body composition including your muscle to fat ratio and your body measurements rather than relying purely on your mass as a gauge.

The second thing you should consider is modifying your diet to include more protein and veggies. Starting your day with toast and peanut butter instead of jelly...and maybe you also have egg or some yogurt. Eating lots of veggies and protein will keep your metabolism going. It also seems possible to me that based on your size and activity level that you are not taking in enough calories. It is very possible that you are in some type of starvation mode. I would suggest you re-evaluate your caloric needs and make sure that you are eating enough to keep up with your athletic habits. You can use the Calorie Target tool on here to do that.

Hope that gives you some insight. Good luck.

Glad to hear that you are feeling better!

Sometimes even when my motivation is high and I am seeing results, I still overindulge. I try to remember that some food is just made to be enjoyed and if you let yourself feel too guilty, it takes all the fun out of eating it! You deserve a break every now & then.

I think you're doing a fantastic job...17 lbs in 2 months! Keep it in perspective and be kind to yourself.

I know you posted this a few days ago... Aside from a professional color removal and correction, the best and least damaging way to remove color is Prell shampoo. It will remove more color than any other clarifying shampoo. Lemon is not strong enough to make an impact on color once it has bonded to your hair and it will dry out your hair as well. Using any type of steam or heat will lock the color into your hair, especially if you use them within a few days of the chemical process.

Also, I have my hair professionally dyed dark brown and it always looks black for a few days after. Color takes 24-48 hours to fully penetrate and oxidize once it has been rinsed out. Give it some time before you freak out too much...it will relax Smile

Hope that helps..good luck!

hey there,

a great substitute for coffee/tea in the morning is vitaminwater energy (yellow). it has 42mg of natural caffeine and 25mg of guarana (another form of natural caffeine) in a 20 oz bottle. thats allllmost equivalent to a cup of coffee. you probably want to drink it cold, but its not terrible warm. its not as sweet as fruit juice, not as bland as plain water, and has no weird aftertaste like other flavored waters. (and its definitely not in the redbull-jittery-type drink category. yuck!)

plus its got other good stuff in it and only natural sugar! and it is a really yummy tropical flavor. one downside- is it has 125 calories for a 20 oz serving, but if you use cream & sugar in your coffee, its a pretty even trade. (not to mention you are getting about 12 oz more liquid than in your cup of coffee!)

im a total energy beverage skeptic, but im hooked on this stuff! hope that helps you out. good luck! Smile
