Thanks everyone for the great advice...I am making this my current mission, LOL. cellophane_star: thanks for the fatfreevegan link! I've been reading a little about Dr. Mcdougall...the fatfreevegan blog is right in line with his beliefs. thinthinnerthinnest: does this look like the recipe you used? Whole Wheat Banana Pancakes |

Just wanted to thank everyone some more for the ideas. Things are going well :). I've made some *yummy* stuff that I probably never would have tried. This Quinoa salad was soooo good: Quinoa Salad with Lime-Cilantro Dressing Toast the quinoa in a dry skillet for a few minutes. Add boiling water, apricots and sun-dried tomatoes. Cover and cook over low heat for 15 minutes. Add the corn kernels and let rest for 10 minutes. Transfer to a fine mesh strainer and allow to rest for another 10 minutes so it is well drained. Transfer to a large bowl. Add the remaining ingredients and mix well. Dressing: Place all dressing ingredients into a food processor or blender and process until well mixed. Taste and adjust seasonings as desired, adding salt to taste (optional). Toss with the quinoa mixture and serve. The grains will absorb some of the tartness of the dressing, and it will seem milder when served with the grains.
I'm going to try lentils next week....wish me luck cooking them :) ;) |

| Vegetarian | I *really* liked this newsletter about Soy, thought I'd share.... | Aug 29 2008 00:13 (UTC) |

I mostly liked the section that shows what *could* be bad about soy and what the benefits are as well. I liked that it balanced things out a bit. We use rice milk too :). The fat requirements for 12 months to 1 year are pretty high...so we opted to use soy for cereal some of the time because it has a higher fat content than rice milk. Funny side note: I was a soy formula baby myself...I'm very flat chested, LOL! Interesting information/experience that everyone is providing...thanks! |

Excellent. Thank you all so much. This is really helpful. I'm making a modified version of beans and greens for dinner (puree'd the beans so my 2 year old would eat it and added some "reds" ;). Yum. (not)meatloaf LOL. Tell me more about "meat substitutes", I don't know much about them. Are they mostly made from soy? Are they processed a bunch? (She said while a box of Town House crackers peeked around the back of the laptop, LOL). |

Hmmmm...I wonder if the label is wrong??? Hopefully ;). It's organic, it should be healthy, right~LOL. The recipe called for 3/4 cup honey, I only used 1/2...the granola bars are *plenty* sweet. Maybe I'll use less next time, or look for a different brand. Anyone know if (other than the calories) honey would be better for you than sugar -or vice versa?

2beittybitty: THANK YOU! That website is awesome!!! Yes, that calculator is so fun….weird how this stuff is starting to be “fun” :). I liked the part that confirmed how if you eat too few calories you burn muscle in addition to fat….great resource, THANKS! Oceanbeach82: Welcome! Glad you found us (she says as a still relatively-new, newbie ;). bubbaluffaguss…What can I say…you are awesome! Thanks for posting all that info!!!!!!!!!! That was super nice of you :) !!!!!!!!!! Does anyone know the actual formula for calorie deficit? I’m thinking it is just BMR*activity level-calories consumed for the day?? Is that all you have to do? inbloom: Glad you got some use out of this silly thread, LOL. I liked that advice too...it makes sense that if you can maintain then you should be able to meet your overal health goals. Thanks again everyone!! |

They are banana flavored??? I just thought they tasted like pure sugar, LOL. Twink...LOL....there are two types of people in this world. Those who like circus peanuts, and those who don't. LOL. We can still be friends though. Now that I think about it...there must be 3 types...because wishfulxthinking didn't know about them ;) |

Oooo Ooooo! I made YUM-O 300 calorie creamy mac and cheese the other day. 2.5 oz ronzoni smart taste pasta, around 3/4 cup cooked spaghetti squash (seriously it bulked it up and just tasted like pasta when mixed in), 1 laughing cow (of course, ha!), 1 fat free cheese slice. I just cooked the pasta and then (in the same pan ;) added the drained pasta, squash and melted the cheeses over medium low....so creamy and yum! (I think I added a little parmesean now that I think about it). My heartbreaker: "real" chips and salsa.

Eh, roomates come and go. If you want I could pull out a number of crazy stories from my college days :P. Do what *you* need to do and *try* not to worry about it. Although, I know how you feel, I brought mine on a family vacation and rarely used it. Good luck!!!!! |

| Weight Loss | Are "burning fat" and "losing weight" essentially the same thing??? | Jul 23 2008 19:19 (UTC) |

Hmmmmm...so it sounds like "weight loss" is generally a more appropriate term? Interesting that when I read different magazines or websites it seems like there is always an article about "eat this to burn fat" or "do this workout to burn fat". |

SS to hear about your struggle. I've been losing weight steadily and I do eat about half of my daily calories for dinner and a snack later. I think what is most important is to stay within your overall daily limit. Good luck! |

I kind of live in the sticks, LOL. My grocery store didn't have any of these, LOL. I'll have to check at the health food store next time I go. I ended up with corn (again)...yum. I also bought some tostada shells....that I thought were 60 calories each....I must have been in a hurry b/c when I got them home it was 160 calories for 2. What brand of tostadas is 50 calories??? Thanks for all the input :) |

| Weight Loss | Fastest way to track/log calories consumed? | Jul 15 2008 23:49 (UTC) |

Original Post by aoifek: I admit...I have "recipe analyzer" fear. I will overcome :). Cool that it calculates so many things, I'll have to figure it out ;). And thank you so much for the tip about how to find yesterday's info, you seriously rock! Becky....pm me and I'll give you my favorite online shoe websites (that have free shipping...*sigh* ;). You are a smarty pants to log when you get home from the grocery store! I did make kind of a menu plan for dinners for the week....I can see how that would be helpful. I think my hardest part is recipes and cooking for DH as well as me at the same time (my 2 year old is easy ;). I don't use recipes much but I guess I'll have to start writing down the measurments of things so I can plug them in to the analyzer. Ha!....I'm Still looking for someone to tell me that it is easier to log on paper so I don't have to figure out the recipe analyzer :-P ;) ;) ;)

So, if I prepare a meal for my family (lets say a pasta, meat and veggie dish)....generally I would figure out the caloreis for the whole dish and then divide up the portions to know how many cals I eat. Would you tag each item in the dish? I was thinking that it might be eaiser to just have a list of common foods/ and meals that I eat with the calories per serving....Although it would be a pain to make the list. For "fun" ;) I logged my entire day last night here on this site based on what I had written down...it made the math eaiser, but I did have to sub "similar" foods for things that I actually ate b/c they were not in the database. (In retrospect, I should have tagged most of the items b/c they were things that I eat often...but it is gone now, LOL). Does anyone just keep track and log everything all at once? I'm open to ALL ideas :)

Yes! I LOVE corn tortillas too :). I mainly eat them, but sometimes I'm in the mood for a flour one. I'll check out these brands thanks! "thhq"....I read somewhere on this forum that someone uses tostada shells in the place of corn chips. I love chips and salsa...but haven't had them forever b/c chips are so high in calories (and I never know when to stop). Thanks for the reminder, I've been meaning to try this. If anyone else wants to chime in, I'm still open to suggestions :) |
