I m no professional but i think that positive self talk might help. Look at yourself every day and say good thing s .not all the negative things you think. I know i dont always feel good about myself and the way I look but I just try to remember that there is so much about me that is good and i tell myself those things when im feeling down.  It is a journey to be at peace with yourself and I hope that you find what works for you . Best of wishes to you  and btw...you look awesome!!!!
Weight Loss New to this weight loss thing... Apr 30 2008

Hi !!! Your starting stats are very close to mine (5'6" 217lbs) I have lost 53.5lbs in the last 7 or 8 months. You really do have to figure out what works best for your body. I did lots of tweaking and still do. Adding strength training is a great idea. One thing that worked for me was I started to learn how to run. I started just doing 30 second intervals and progressively worked my way up and now i can run up to 4 miles. I usually do 2-3 as im usually in a time crunch. Also just doing intervals helps a lot to burn fat. For example I will run at 5.5 on the treadmill to start for a warmup then up to 6 for a minute then up to 6.5 for a minute then up to 7 for a minute then up to 7.5 for a minute and then up to 8 for 30 seconds. and then start back to a 6 and do the cycle again until ive hit 20-30minutes. I really dont have much advice on eating as i listen to my body and try to eat often small meals with healthy foods but dont really count calories. I have a general idea of how many calories i eat but not exact amounts. When i have bad days thought i make sure to journal so that i m being accountable for every bite i eat. I have 4 kids so its so easy to pick off their plates and boom and extra 500 calories...lol....well good luck to you and if i can lose so can you and this is the best piece of advice ive ever taken to heart. dont make the lifestyle change about weight loss only. find other motivating factors. for me it is being fit and being able to keep up with the kids and my skinny friends...lol...i can run up stairs and not get winded..shoot me running...a year ago i would have thought that was hilarious. I think if you find other motivating factors if you have a bad eating day or what not its easier to just pick yourself up and keep going. :) i wish you the best on your journey .
Weight Loss Cellulite-Has anyone ever gotten rid of it? Apr 30 2008

as ive lost weight and  been building muscle definition i have lost all cellulite. I had some on my rear and upper thighs but not a whole lot when i was at my highest. I think a lot of it is genetics. some people tend to have it and some dont. I think the best you can do is drink lots of water and get to a healthy body fat  % if youre not already there.

good luck :)

Just wanted to say you look fabulous...i cant wait until i make it to the point youre at. Also just to throw this out there sometimes it takes the skin a bit to catch up with the rest of you from the weight loss. but i definitely agree that you should slowly add in excercise and you will see massive gains in toning up. I weigh about 164lbs but my derierre and my legs and arms and shoulders are very tone.....Just gotta work on that belly now...ha ha....;P

Fitness how many days strength training? Apr 28 2008
20:35 (UTC)

I do three days a week of weight training and i alternate lower body monday upper body wednsday lower body friday and then upper body again on monday.  It definitlely is working in building muscle i see a lot more definition building. your muscle does need time to recover and repair. i was doing every day light weights but i never really saw any progress with that...so now i do moderate to heavy weight on the three days...really makes the body look better.

the plank is awesome.. you start in pushup position but with your forearms on the ground and you make sure your whole body is straight from head to toe. and hold for as long as you can..you just basically work your way up from 10 secs to more

My double jogging stroller. A bit spendy but I use it often for running and just to be able to walk up to the park or grocery store instead of taking the van. I also like my bike seat and bike trailer. I can pack my 4 year old and the little one in and we can go for a ride. My oldest is big enough he rides his own bike. (THANK GOD) It is already a really hard workout lugging the 3...lol...HMMMMM...what else...oh yea turbo jam videos for the days when the kids are sick and we cant get out to excercise..then i have no excuse...and those dumbells....cant have any excuses then. I would say my tread mill but it finally died on me...lol...want to get a new one...but we'll see..

Julia ...you are hilarious!!! That pumping iron will do your body good :) Hopefully you wont be as sore as I am though. My husband says Im walking like Ive been horseback riding...lol

Cutesy...You WILL be able to jog longer then you walk. It will happen for you. Never in a million years would I have thought I could jog let alone run...My mom always teases me about how when I was in Elementary school we had a jogathon at school and I was the only kid not jogging ...ha ha..I was just walking alone at a leisurely pace....lol...YOU CAN DO IT!!!!
Motivation 2 years and 70lbs and about ready to quit. Any suggestions? Apr 24 2008

Im no expert but im thinking that you might need to bring your calories up progressively ... so many calories for a few weeks until you reach a good level ...that way your body is adjusted...i do agree though that talking with your physician would be a good idea or a nutritionist as they can possibly guide you without having the weight gain especially if you specify that you dont want to gain the weight and that you wont....i wish you the best :)

You look great too me!!! I wouldnt suggest going any lower than the recommended BMI. Do you do any toning work. Maybe start lifting and doing some pilates if youre not already. I think that the weight is fine that if you apply those principles you will get the results you want. But once again you look awesome!!!

THANKS CUTESY...I remember doing that atkins before I had my first child and I tell ya...I was messed up for that entire pregnancy. It just had so many side effects for me. Im glad that you are doing it the right way now and I will be here for any support you need. Sounds like a good way to go...I tell you the way i lost the weight so far was interval training. and working mmy way up to running. I can now run 2 miles easily and run 3-4 miles with a little more effort. It really helped get the pounds off...oh yeah...and I also make sure to do weights. So just some tips there for ya. !!! :)Looking forward to weigh in friday. Dont think im gonna make my goal of 2.25lbs lost for the week. But thats ok...a loss is a loss
