Fitness Oh No! Another Ab Question. Dec 10 2008
21:55 (UTC)

i'd go with what spirochete said...

also, try doing push ups against a wall and really isolating your ab muscles... that will help strengthen more areas.  medicine balls are great investments... stand up holding a medicine ball in front of you (or a heavy canned good/heavy book), tighten your abs, and twist your body slowly from side to side.

or... stand up with arms extended to your side, and with your right hand, reach down and across your body, trying to touch your left knee, then bring your body to the upright position again.  repeat on the opposite time. with all of these really focusing on fueling the movement with your abs.  a good comprehensive routine would be to combine a few of these exercises with rest in between

but YES! speak to your doctor first.. im sure he can also give you some great advice

hope that helps!

Fitness Working out everyday? Dec 10 2008

i would recommend a rest day, depending on how vigorous your exercises are.  if you wake up sore after work outs, throw a rest day in at least once a week so your muscles can recover.

im currently training for a marathon, and my training demands a rest day

"Rest is a very important part of any training program. Without proper rest, your muscles and connective tissues will not have an opportunity to recover and strengthen properly. On the days calling for complete rest, do no strenuous activity. On the days calling for rest or cross training, you can rest totally or do some cross training. Cross training can be any activity other than running. You could go for a walk, swim, bicycle or do nothing. It is up to you. If you are feeling fatigued or sluggish, you should rest completely."

dim lighting!! bright lights will only showcase your flaws.  lingerie lingerie lingerie!! its all about the suspense... haha, wear thigh highs and garters (my mans personal favorite).  i would suggest: come out wearing lingerie, covered up with one of his nice dress shirts.  i'd incorporate a lapdance with the strip tease, and dont let him touch!  haha, good luck! and have fun!

Foods Going on Vacation Advice! Dec 09 2008

my suggestion: eat what you want, when you're hungry... and dont over indulge.

from my experiences in europe, you will WALK WALK WALK!  i spent a few months there as an exchange student... and probably walked at least 10 miles a day.

i went a little crazy with the food though- you MUST go to the eis cafes and have spaghetti eis, so good!  dont hold yourself back because of your diet, or you might regret it later.

best of luck!! have a good vacation, i would love to go back to germany!

Foods Sweeteners/diet soda Dec 07 2008
12:04 (UTC)

i agree with kate777... did you get that information from Skinny Bitch by any chance?!

in my opinion, it is best to stay away from artificial sweeteners.  they are a chemically created product... and your body has trouble recognizing and digesting them.  i've learned to cut artificial sweeteners out of my diet completely.  its been hard, but so worth it!

if you're craving a soda... indulge in an 8 ounce soda, for 100 calories.  yes its loaded with sugar, but at least it is something your body is familiar with.

for an alternative, i would suggest drinking fresh brewed ice teas.  stevia is an awesome no calorie all natural sweetener!  all natural, nothing artificial... and then you're actually getting the antioxidants of drinking tea.  its a win win! plus it tastes amazing

CW: 160

I would like to be 150 by the end of this challenge, but im trying not to slave to the the number on the scale!

my plan is just to eat right, listen to my body, and be active!!

how does everyone feel about creating a "weekly" challenge for our individual group? something to keep us motivated... like "exercising for 4 hours a week" something of the sort, regarding everyones preferences of course!

lets do this!!!

Foods What do you put on your veggies to steam? Nov 24 2008
19:41 (UTC)

it depends on what i feel like eating... i love plain steamed veggies, but i like to mix things up with...

1. tabasco sauce with fresh salsa

2. basil with balsamic vineager and garlic salt

3. soy sauce with chilli paste and a little peanut sauce

mmm... now im hungry.

Weight Loss 800 cals/day.... and... not hungry?? WHATS GOING ON? Aug 09 2008

6

thanks for the helpful responses shandykat and coach!! i agree with what you're saying. also.. i think whats going on... is my body is just trying to adjust itself to my new diet.  i also think my body is starting to rid itself of all these toxins and junk from the food i was previously eating... so everythings been slow but steady.

another reason i think my calorie intake may be limited, is because i've been planning my whole day a night in advance.. so when i reach for that bag of chips.. i go "no.. i cant eat this, because in an our when i get off work im making myself a much more satisfying stir-fry"

i also forgot to add in my calcium chews... i eat about three a day, and they're 20 cals each.

these next couple of days i'll try counting everything, and aim for about 1500 cals a day, just to serve as a base for the future... and no where to adjust from there.

Weight Loss 800 cals/day.... and... not hungry?? WHATS GOING ON? Aug 09 2008

wow... didnt realize this post would blow up like this.  im having a really hard time taking everybodys criticism when CLEARLY i wasnt elaborate enough in my posts.  I write EVERYTHING i eat down, but only count the calories of the heavy foods... because im not trying for rapid weight loss. and i dont like obsessing about every calorie that goes into my body... i think thats unhealthy.  in fact... thats something i am avoiding.  my number one priority... and the reason im using this webbsite, is to obtain a healthy diet, that isnt influenced by my roommates/boyfriend/friends/vacations...  ;they way im trying to see it, losing weight is a mere benefit.  so this is what my journal looks like, for a typical day

10 am - * small granny smith apple, *handful of cherries

10:45 - sandwhich made with *tofurky, half an *avacodo, red onions, lettuce, cucumbers, and 2 pieces of *whole wheat bread

2:30 - large salad with balsamic vineager, small handful of raw *almonds

7:00 - sauteed (in *olive oil- didnt measure exactly) half a red onion, a whole small zucchini, whole red pepper, minced garlic, and "beef-less" *beef strips, eaten on two *rice tortillas with a bunch of salsa

10:00 - smoothie made with a whole medium *banana, ice, about 12 ounces of *almond milk, and 1 scoop of *kashi chocolate shake mix.

... my title may have been misleading, but my main goal in posting this thread... is why am i not hungry, when my calorie intake has been literally chopped in half! i put the stars in front of the foods i do "count"

typical day... pre "lifestyle change"

breakfast:wake up... hungover - snack on the first box of food i see laying around (usually chips or cheeze its, about 45 minutes later - we go to sharis.. i eat an ENTIRE farmers skillet (1500 calories). im usually so full from this.. i'll go back to sleep.

dinner: go to boomers... a local fast food place.  get an old fashion mocha milkshake, waffle fries (with tarter sauce AND ketchup), garden burger.. extra sauce WITH BACON ON IT!! (yes i know... weird to get a garden burger and put bacon on it, but i just dont like beef patties)

later: alcohol, usually about 5 beers... and then we order delivery pizza... and i eat anywhere from 3-5 slices with ranch, or make and eat a whole box of macoroni and cheese.

typical life of a college student.

thanks for the replies guys...

but, i really doubt im going to screw up my body by listening to it... maybe i'll screw it up by stuffing my face?? im a college student... so my diet went from boxed macaroni and cheese, chinese take out, and pizza at 3 am... to fresh fruit and produce, and whole grains.

you're right ilisa, my body probably just needs time to adjust... and i could be underestimating my calories... because i NEVER count calories with produce.  i eat it endlessly.

the only calories i actually "count" are heavy foods like rice, cereals, nuts, potatoes, bread... you get the idea. and even with 800 calories.. im still getting about 34-40 grams of protein a day.

and clearly i was rethinking the low intake because i posted this? like i said.. eating limited calories is NOT like me, my body usually demands food... all day everyday.  and i always FEEL like eating, im just NOT HUNGRY =]

hey everyone!!

so its been a while since i checked in, and lets just say i've fallen COMPLETELY off track.  I lost 7 pounds last three week challenge, and felt so confident before i went on spring break!!  unfortunately... i spent spring break with my boyfriend, and my healthy eating habits, and exercise routine went completely out the window.

i swore to myself that after spring break i was going to get completely back on track (i gained three pounds in about a week).  and well... unfortunately, spring break ended three weeks ago, and i still havent gone back to healthy eating or exercising regularly.

im so frustrated with myself, and so annoyed that i havent been able to get back on track.  i have a terrible mentality about it.. always saying "oh, i'll start tomorrow"  but of course, i never do.  i know i shouldnt see this as a "diet", but more of an eating change... but its so hard! especially when my roommates are like size 2's and want to order pizza everynight.  Three weeks later... and i've gained back ALL the weight i've lost.

some motivation would help :)  sorry about the rant!

good job everyone! and welcome newbies!!

the scale hasnt moved for me this week... but it is TTOTM, so who knows!  i've decided to actually stop calorie counting for a while, im just going to stick to eating healthy, and whenever im hungry... and working out.  i've realized that i've gotten too caught up in numbers and BMRs and deficiets, and everything like that! so instead im just going to listen to my body... and hope it replies kindly :)

one more week though ladies!! lets keep it up!

hey ladies!  just wondering how everyone is doing this week!

fionabus and janujen- good job!! keep it up

so far i feel like this week hasnt been as successful as the last, which is okay... because i lost so much last week.  i changed up my workout routine, so my muscles are super sore... and i lost a little motivation.  and today i treated myself to a big ice cream sunday :).  it was delicious... but i felt very guilty afterwards.  I swam some laps today (something my body is absolutely NOT used to) and now my muscles are aching, and im super hungry again!! i've already reached my cal intake of 1400 because i allowed myself the ice cream, but im nervous to keep eating!  also.. because i have no idea how many calories i burned swimming.

haha.. okay, that was my rant for today.

congratulations to everyone on your progres, lets make it follow through to next week!!

and thanks to everyone for the support! i think the secret to my success it that i've eating around 1400 calories every single day, and i workout 5 days... inlcluding a 30 minute spin class, followed by weight training.

i also drink decaf green tea with acai berry juice in it allll day long, and go through TONS of water.

i think where my success really comes is my diet though! instead of actually counting calories, i focus on eating 100-calorie portions of everything i eat.  I aim for 2 portions of dairy, 2 protein, 2 fruit, 3 carbs, then 3 snacks! it makes counting calories much easier, and this way i know im getting a balanced diet!!

since logging each and everything you put into your mouth can be tedious, focus on how many servings of each food type you eat!!

so instead of counting every single calorie, just focus on eating small 100- calorie size portions, and counting those instead! that way you have far less numbers to keep track of!!

also, i find using an actual journal, than logging everything into CC helps me immensly!!

good luck!
