I once ate 5 Big Macs in a row.... I know that's only 2700 calories, but I still think it's pretty impressive... :)

It really varies depending on where you get it from. I've had some that have been dripping in oil, and others have been pretty tame. You'd have to do a little research.

You're right, the calorie deficit is something like 3 or 4 calories. By all means eat these foods though, they're all healthy fruit and veggies.... |

Ok, I'm going to stray a little off topic here, but I'm sick of the huge lines in Timmies now. Can't they have a separate line for people ordering sandwhiches, bagels, steak, etc... ??? Used to be in and out in that place. They need an express line for people who just want coffee. |

Yeah, I was a former addict of the ol triple triple. Take it now with 2 milk, 2 sweetners, only 65 cals. Not too bad, but you do take a big hit on the flavour. |

Try a cup of green tea when you're feeling famished. It tastes terrible( my opinion), but it actually has an appetite supressing effect.

That's a good idea. There's still a few bugs with Vista and it tends to update itself(rendering the computer useless for 15 minutes) at very inopportune times.

I'm hesitant to bring it up, but what's wrong with free health care? They do it all over Europe and here in Canada.... Works pretty good. Raise taxes, but do it in brackets... The more money you make, the higher your tax percentage. |

I wouldn't up the calories. Sounds like you're doing fine. Focus on upping your metabolism if your weight loss slows. Drop the calories(try not to go lower than 1500) for a few days, then bring them back up again. This has been working extremely well for me. I started at 255 in late January and am now at 211. Also... green tea, cayenne pepper, and pomegranate are all good for boosting the metabolism. From what you've said, I'm guessing you have a big frame, how tall are you?

I notice as well that the main culprits on hyping up this war between the two are republican-leaning media giants. The Dems haven't even chosen a leader yet and the republicans are already hitting them with a smear campaign. |

If you want to go low carb, you have to get off certain types of cereal... Strawberries, rasberries are pretty sweet, fairly low cal, and very low carbs and taste pretty good when you throw it in a blender with some unsweetened yogurt. Or have some corn bran with some fresh apricot in it. Is your problem the sweets? Or are their other areas? Sorry, need more information.

Probably muscle building up, which will burn MORE fat down the road, but to be sure, how many calories a day do you eat and how much exercise/activity?

I'm pretty computer savvy, if you have any follow up questions, shoot. Not too many 3rd party batteries for laptops. The wonderful computer companies mostly make them unique to that specific model so I guess it's not economically sound for a 3rd party company to manufacture them. It's a good laptop, good price. Vista should run pretty good on it as long as you're not watching 3 movies at the same time. I've read nothing but good reviews about it, and it's supposedly very sturdy as well, which is good for travelling. As far as the graphics card, as long as you aren't into the brand new state of the art video games you'll be fine.

When you feel a sugar craving coming on, brush your teeth or pop a sugar-free gum. Most sweets will taste awful after that, especially sweet-tarts. That's short term... Long term you should focus on getting accustomed to the sugar in fresh fruit. Chase an apple or something(no bananas though, they have more cals than a pack of sweet-tarts) down with some water. It took me about a week to get used to it rather than high-sugar candy, but you adjust. |

brokenbones84 - I've been dieting since the end of January, sort of a late new year's resoloution. I've heard though that you lose the first bit fast, which may explain why it was so quick. I was at 255, now down to 215. |

| I agree with amethystgirl, 120 is too low. Just by the numbers, 125 should be your minimum weight. If you don't like how you look at 125, you should focus more on muscle toning than weight loss. You're not going to look better if you go too far below a normal BMI. | |||
| Weight Loss | Just a question..that I'm sure will spark a debate.. | Mar 11 2008 01:56 (UTC) |

The average human being can go for 30-45 days without food. This is a fact that has been recorded thousands of times. That means 0 calories. No restricted diet, just zero. If your body was consuming muscle tissue during this period, you would die much, much, much quicker than this. I'm not advocating starving yourself. Just think, think about it for a second. Can your body live off your muscle tissue for 5 days, 10 days, 20 days???? It can't without killing you. So basically what I'm hearing is that your body will purposely put you in jeopardy while abundant fat stores are available. If this was the case, we'd be as extinct as dinosaurs ladies and gentlemen.... I will reference ketosis again, although I doubt anyone will bother to do anything other than type "ketosis dying" into google. However, for those of you who do want to give it a few minutes, you'll see how remarkably well the body adapts to a lack of food. People, the only reason the body doesn't crap this extra out in the first place is to store fat for a rainy, starving day. That's how the body is programmed. The only validity I see to any of these points is there is a brief adjustment period before the body starts rapidly consuming the fat. This period lasts about 12 hours and will knock an insignificant amount of muscle off your body. It is this "starvation mode" that certain people have capitalized on and inflated it into some sort of panic for people. How do you go 30-45 days off of your muscle tissue? Does anyone have an answer for that without subtly changing the topic through picking apart some sentence structure mistake I made a few lines ago? Again, don't starve yourself, I would never advocate that.... That's sick and wrong. Love yourself and your body, but don't be afraid to question the occasional lie. This is a lie that you and I have been fed, and I ate it up for 30 years. I'm done with this issue. Anything posted in rebuttal to this, I will read fully and listen, but I'm not debating this anymore. Feel free to tear this post apart now. |

You're wasting your time twinmommy928. I brought this issue up a few weeks ago and had a bunch of diet industry advertisements thrown in my face to prove I was wrong. No one makes any money if you don't yo-yo with your weight. Binge, diet, binge, diet... That's where money is made... Any unbiased study done by a doctor or researcher not trying to sell you something will confirm what you've already said.
Hey Melkor, you really should be getting paid for putting ads up on this forum. Their not articles, they're called advertorials.

How much weight are you trying to lose? If you're sedentary and are eating 800-1000 calories, you've probably tanked your metabolism. Keep the calories at 1300-1500 consistently, start some light exercise and hit the following: - Green Tea, 3 times a day(put Equal in it if you don't usually drink it) - Cayenne Pepper, put it on everything that isn't sweet. - Drink more water, the tea will dehydrate you a little(have 500 ml for each cup)

Yeah, I hear that. I've got a pretty big frame on me and I think my target weight of 178 is a little nuts. It's just a guideline methinks. I'm just aiming at the upper end of normal BMI and see what I look like at that stage.
