| Weight Loss | 90% about food 10% about exercise | Jun 23 2009 14:51 (UTC) |

I find the same thing - I can exercise loads and still nothing will come off the scales! However, I do find that exercise makes me feel more positive in myself and therefore I am less likely to comfort eat. Also, if you spend an hour exercising, it's an hour less eating/debating with yourself whether to have that chocolate bar. One thing I have learned is that I do not necessarily need to reward my exercise with food. I used to do that all the time! Although it doesn't make the exercise pointless, it takes a lot longer to loose weight. Like most people are saying, it's about doing both and trying to become more healthy. For me, any distraction from food is a good one and so it may as well be exercise! |

Not sure this applies specifically to this situation but I like... "I'm fat, but you're ugly and I can diet"
Hehe! |

Hey, I sometimes overeat when I am feeling depressed. I sometimes find myself stuffing my mouth when I haven't even swallowed what was in there! The best way I overcome it is either by brushing my teeth, drinking water, eating slowly or sometimes I spit out what is in my mouth after reasoning that I will only be more upset if I put on weight. Try not to be alone either. You're less likely to eat loads if your surrounded by people. If I'm upset, talking through a problem is usually more comforting than eating my weight in chocolate (or bread, or crisps or whatever I can get my hands on)! I haven't conquered it at all but I am trying! Let me know if you have any other ideas! I know what it is like and I am rooting for you! |

I think it does. However, to be safe, I would leave your CC status as sedentary and add in each day any activity that you do. That way you know more precisely how much you need and how much you burn. Hope that helps |

I agree with Salgal80. I drink tea and diet coke between meals as it prevents me from snacking. I hope I'm not missing something but a lot of posts in forums here talk about cutting down on these things and I can't really understand why! If there is a reason, I would love to know but if diet coke has 1 calorie and a cup of tea only has 16 calories max, I can't see a problem! |

I know that water speeds up your metabolism but how would coffee prevent weight loss? Is it the same with all types of caffeine? I drink about one can of diet coke a day and 2-3 cups of tea. It fills me up so I eat less but I don't want to carry on if it prevents me losing weight! (Sorry if this is slightly removed from the specific *coffee* topic) |

I feel exactly the same. I go to my uni gym which is full of skinny girls and and muscley guys - most days I am the fattest one there. The way I have learned to overcome it is to think that I don't really need their approval for me to be okay. If they are laughing at the way I look, they are not my friends and don't mean anything to me. I am more concerned with reaching my own goals that bothering with what they think. It is so hard I know but if they are being judgemental that is their problem. When I am nice and slim, I know it will be worth it! Hope this helps x |

I found the best way of avoiding dessert is not to buy it in the first place. I used to buy chocolate 'just in case' I desperately wanted some but now even when I get the cravings, there is none to eat so I have to find something else to curb my craving. You can buy Options Hot Chocolate in the UK which is delicious (especially the mint chocolate one) and I know it's not quite the same but it has been a life saver for me. It only has 35 calories and only needs hot water saving calories in milk! If you're from the States or elsewhere, I'm sure there is something similar. I hate it when people offer me fruit when I want chocolate but grapes are also a yummy food to pick at. Hope this helps x |
