Hey guys- anyone else still here?

So, i've been slacking off and my new pants are starting to feel tight - ahhh!!

Who is up for starting some weigh-ins? We can just post it for now...just so I know i have to write it down somewhere, that will help. =)

Yep, i feel you! I feel like i am so busy it's hard to think about getting to the store letting alone planning some meals! I need to try to make it more of a priority though.

I also am trying to get more exercise in- so far this week i have done at least 1/2 hour everyday except one- hopefully i can keep that going!

Hi everyone- i'm back!

sparkleriot- i was in ft. lauderdale and naples- it only rained a few days, but mostly it was just sunny and humid and really hot! =)

Katie- I haven't heard of slim in 6, either- sorry!

I am not going to weigh in until next week because with the combo of just getting back from vacation AND the TOTM i know it won't be pretty.

Hope everyone else is doing good!

Hey Everyone-

Well, my weekend wasn't too great weight loss wise-no loss again, my body just seems to want to stay where it is!  i did do alot of dancing because we had practices and a performance, but i could have eaten better. I am going on vacation to FL for a week and am hoping that at least i'll get some swimming in everyday! Have a good week everyone. =)

Is this the Ren Fest in Larkspur, CO? I live right by there! =)

Yes it would be the one in Larkspur.  I live in Denver but grew up in Franktown.  I'm a CO native.  Nice to know I have a fellow CC in the area.

How funny! I lived in Larkspur for a few years and then moved to Ft. Collins for college... and now I'm in Denver, too.  ;)  Small world!

As for the group, i agree we should keep it going for support, etc. and maybe just skip the formal weigh ins. People can still weigh in if they want to, but we don't necessarily have to update a list every week, right? I know it'll help me to keep weighing in when i can and hoepfully other people will stick with it too.

In other news I am thinking of buying an exercise ball to use for a desk chair.. I probably won't bring it in to work but I usually am at my home desk for an hour or 2 at nights and just sitting on it is supposed to help tighten your core... anyone else done this?

Hi Everyone- Hope you all a nice holiday weekend. I didn't eat horribly, but of course wasn't perfect either...I did get a workout in on sunday night and then went to a water aerobics class yesterday. I'm feeling sore today but i'm taking that as a good sign! I hear you guys on the busy summer thing- i feel like i am at top speed and just keep adding more and more activities and things i need to do to my list- it's nuts!

Plus i have a vacation coming up next week to get ready for- hopefully i can eat well when i am there- it's just to my grandma's house so i will be able to get groceries and cook, etc. so i'm hoping it will be okay. No loss for me this week- i think after the weekend i expected that, but hoping this week will be better.  =)

milwaukeegal- i am SO with you... i have been eating all sorts of stuff that i haven't eaten in a long time and just kind of ignoring it. I think I am rebelling against myself for being so strict or something? I miss not having to think about what I am eating constantly.  I definitely do not want to fall off the wagon either, though. I am maintaining right now but still have at least 5 pounds to loose, hopefully 10. Since it's the 1st day of the month and i want this next month to count as good progress I am going to start today and try to work harder. Maybe we should post everyday what we did for exercise or something?

Sounds like a fun trip, i hope it's awesome. =)

I think the "keep it simple" thing is a really great idea for a challenge. When i was starting out and loosing weight faster it was so much easier to be motivated and stick with the plan i had made. Then the newness and fun wears off and you make more and more little slip ups- this is me lately. Just need to keep the focus! Easier said than done.

katie- thanks, my knee is doing better. =) I had my first PT session last night and it went pretty well. The great news for me at least was that I should be okay to keep dancing on it as long as it doesn't hurt... this is awesome because my swing dance team is getting ready for a competition in august and i would not have wanted to miss out on that!

Well, i didn't have too great of a weekend but did manage to do some elliptical and stationary bike and my knee feels ok today, so i'm happy about that. I weighed myself early this morning and was down a pound, then checked an hour later and was up a pound and a half, so who knows! I am going with the loss though. =)

Thanks Guys-

Katie- I think i do have one of those soft knee braces somewhere... i should find it. I think I will start wearing it when i'm going to be doing active stuff.

xzcandizx- thanks for the advice, i've been told by everyone i've talked to that the best thing to do it just keep up with the PT exercises so i'm totally on board with that! Elliptical is a good idea- i haven't tried it yet because i was worried it might make something worse, but my dr. did mention i could try it too so i'm happy about that. I'm going to try it- i need to get back into doing cardio!

Also, good luck deciding about school and living situations- i know that is always stressful!

=)

Wow, you guys are so ambitious to try to go running in the mornings! I am so NOT a morning person at all and i know i'd never be able to do that... I usually try for right when i get home from work or later in the evenings to do my workouts.

I found out that the pain i've been having in my knee is from my kneecap being out of alignment. I guess the good news is nothing is torn, but i do have to do to physical therapy for 6 weeks. Hopefully it'll help and I won't need anything more serious after that. My Dr. also said i can still try to do "low impact" things if they don't hurt- i do have a stationary bike at home so i might try that out and see how it goes. Any one else with knee problems and any suggestions for workouts I can do?

I'm pretty sure it's the product of water/sodium/stress/depression.  I need to drink more water and watch my sodium intake more.

Sodium intake... challenge idea?

Great idea, i'm on board!

Found this fron another CC post:

"More then 500mg and less then 2000mg of sodium a day is likely a safe range."

I think the key is staying away from pre-packaged food as much as possible...not easy for us 20-somethings who are so busy, so i think this wll be a great challenge!

Hey Guys-

Sorry to hear about everyone's stressful week... i hope things turn around soon. I know it's so much harder to remember to make healthy choices when you have so many other important things going on, so good luck.

I didn't have a very good week either. I somehow managed to hurt my knee a few weeks ago when i was walking around on vacation and although it's not a severe pain, it just won't go away. It's only when i am walking on it and at first i just ignored it, thinking it would get better on it's own, but after 3 weeks I am realizing that maybe it won't. At first i tried keeping up with my normal workouts, but then started to take it easy, trying to rest my knee so i don't hurt it. I am really annoyed by this, but don't want to hurt myself any more than i already have... i'm getting it checked out on wednesday so am hoping for good news. So, with this going on I haven't really done that well this week, but my goal is to do better with my calorie goal since i can't create a deficit through exercise now... easier said than done, though. =/

Today is a new day, though, and i'm really going to try to do well today.

Hi Everyone-

Well, i'm down a little in weight but am still not feeling too great with how the weekend went. I ended up having 2 parties to go to and ate alot of things i shouldn't have and had a few drinks... oh well, at least i don't do it that often. I need to get back on track starting today!

My usual work out is pretty mild, 25-30 minutes on the elliptical. Sometimes I'll had a few weights for about 20 mins but nothing major. My goal for this week was to increase my intensity on the elliptical and then add an exercise video in the evening. I'm not planning extremes, just giving myself a kick. Basically I'm going from burning 250-300 calories to around 500 hopefully.

Emma: I am working on drinking tons of water, and I've cut out my coffee in the morning that i always load with cream. And adding veggies and fruit, though that is the toughest part of my eating habits to adjust so far during this whole process.

Sounds like you will be fine with upping your workouts a little. I'd just make sure you are eating enough... just make sure it's all super healthy and keep drinkng water and i think you should be able to do a 2 lb loss in a week. =) good luck!

Oh- update on our challenge- i tried radishes on my salad today at lunch- they are pretty good! =)

Fitness How do you log Walk away the Pounds? Jun 02 2008

I usually log them as aerobics, too- especially the ones that have the added weights, upper body moves, etc. i think it burns more than just logging "walking" would.

Hey Everyone!

So i finally broke down and bought a digital scale because i was feeling like my analog one wasn't accurate any more (mostly because it wasn't showing any loss at all!) but i'm happy i did because i think it will be more correct now.

LW: 140

CW: 138

I think my new fruit or vegetable try might be radishes. I think i've had them before, but i can't remember... so it will be an experiment!

milwaukeegal, the "exercise plan" that has been working for me was just to train myself to make exercise a part of my day. At first when i was starting i tried to do 3-4 days a week and now i try to do something active everyday. I have a few set workouts (like wednesdays are dance practice, mondays are water aerobics class) but on the other days i will usually pop in a workout dvd and at least move my butt for 30 min. (I really like Leslie Sansone's walking dvds- they are pretty easy and don't require a lot a brain power to follow- which is nice after a full day at work). I think what works best for me is as soon as i get home from work i will change into my workout clothes and do something. Then the rest of the night i can relax and not worry about it or get too tired to do it... seems to be the best plan for me at least! good luck =)

I agree- weekend are really hard! Too many snacks around my house...

Congrats to everyone who has tried something new for a workout this week- i am hoping to get out and try something today but my knee has been acting up and i'm not really sure what i did to it... so i've been trying to take it a little easy... maybe i could do biking though since it's not such a direct impact. We'll see! Either way, i'm definietly going to a water aerobics class at the gym tomorrow!

I also had an idea for our next challenge- what about trying a fruit or vegetable that you've never had before? Or at least don't usually get or eat often? I think it's fun to mix it up!

If i still need cals at the end of the day I will usually eat a tbsp peanut butter with a banana or mixed in some lower-sugar oatmeal. If we have it another fave treat is strawberries with a little nutella on the side for dipping. Yum!I also recently discovered Dreyer's Slow Churned Yogurt Blends- I love the peach flavor- and only 100 cals for 1/2 cup! Really good if you are an ice cream lover like i am. =)

#2 - Try a new/revived physical activity this week.  Example a)  I've been meaning to get back into swing dancing, so that could count  b)  I've never done pilates, so I could take that class at the gym, or c) jumping on the bed... haven't done that in years either...

I love swing dancing!! I'm actually in a performance/competition group and it is so much fun and a pretty great workout!

I'm on vacation this weekend visiting a friend and so my eating plan is out of wack to say the least... i'm just trying to watch my portions, make the healthiest choices when we eat out and try not to worry too much... it's just one week!

Altho for cookouts the best plan would be to look for the fresh veggie/fruit trays and maybe get a burger without the bun? maybe there will be some good salads too. Hopefully if it's a pot luck you can bring something that you know you can eat also! I also heard that if you can find some coleslaw and rinse off most of the "sauce" it can be okay- but that's if you can get to a sink and there aren't alot of people around to see you doing it- lol!

sparkleriot: I love Thomas' light multi-grain muffins.  I have one toasted every morning for my breakfast with a laughing cow light wedge spread across.  it is a great substitute for cream cheese or butter and fewer calories.  And I totally sympathize about not having motivation for fad diets.  I just can't do the restriction thing for diets.  I am much better with finding substitutes for my guilty pleasures so I can still live and enjoy life without feeling deprived.

I agree, those english muffins are awesome! I love them toasted then spread with peanut butter....=)

I joined CC feb 1st and have loved it so far. I was always a little bit larger growing up and went i went to college i started doing alot more walking and dancing (when i joined a swing dance team) and lost probably around 10 or 15 pounds- i felt great! then somehow the last few years of college went by and the weight had all come back... i think it was combination of being busy with classes and work and really just not eating as healthy as i could have been. Well, now that i am at a desk job all day i figured i'd better start doing something or it would just keep getting worse! Now i love eating my lunch at work and getting all the comments that i am the "healthy one"!
