Weight Loss Milk..muscle building & weight loss..agree? May 24 2009

Well, from what I have read, there is no benifit to drinking whole milk vs. skim milk (just more fat).  So if you are simply touting the benifits of milk, then yes it is pretty good stuff.  Skim milk actually has more protein and calcium.

Exactly.  Why ANYONE  (other than an infant) would drink non-skim, is beyond me.

==================

Well if you eat regular ice cream or cheese your getting whole milk..the need the high fat content to make the great ice dreams and cheese.

To me I like the taste of whole milk...I do not drink it every day...but when I have cereal I will have 1/2 a cup of milk on it and I also eat some marble cheese and cottage cheese, occasionally.

I always stay under my daily limit.

I found this idea was a good one:  When I over exert myself on workouts or intense labour I do the drink some milk so the next day I do not have stiff muscles.  It works for me and my lady.

Health & Support Lemonade diet??? May 23 2009

IT IS NOT HEALTHY!  BECAUSE IT IS A FORM OF FASTING.

It will work but when your done the weight comes back quickly because your body has not been able to work with this diet...you need a well balanced diet and you can add cleaning foods to the diet to allow your body to cleanse naturally.  Add raw veggies, psyllium husks, flax seeds, herbs and teas.  Skip this lemonade diet and give your body the natural foods it needs to do it right and naturally.

Weight Loss Removing stretch marks May 23 2009

when ur skin stretches faster than it can adjust you get the stretch marks...usually after rapid weight gain.

Google has a lot of info on it, there are drug store topical solutions and there are many operations that will get rid of these marks

However before considering any such alternatives...make sure you have reached your ideal healthy weight and are able to stay there for a long period of time.

With a healthy well balanced diet and you at your ideal weight..then that would be the time to check if there is a need to get rid of the stretch marks that you can still see.

Weight Loss listen to your body.... May 23 2009
23:12 (UTC)

all thumbs up...I have been telling this to people too.

eat slowly, chew your food 5 to 10 times per mouth full..savour every bite and listen...because you slowed down the brain gets the word..."I full"..from the stomach.

But the key here is you must stop eating.   It is much easier to do because you are full.

Another trick when eating out...order a take out container when you get your meal...out in that container what you know is over your limit.  Then sit back and enjoy your meal eating slowly.  This came from someone on CC..there are some smart people here!

Weight Loss So confuzzled May 23 2009
23:03 (UTC)

good idea of tasha7399

as far as walking u might want to try this formula..

time yourself for steps taken per minute....most people average around 50 to 70..

however for max effiency for walking you should try to work yourself up to 100 steps a minute... and keep that pace for 10 minutes...then 15 and soon for 30 minutes at least 3 or 4 times a week.  This gives you a good walking work out.  I have seen people who walk but do less than 40 steps a minute...I doubt they are burning any calories at that speed.

I would stay with the calories you are doing and if you find your not losing weight try introducing more  raw veggies, grains and cereals like psylium husks and flax seed plus more water.  Avoid sugar and salt.

Weight Loss able to burn 31 calories per pound of fat? May 23 2009

Kikua is right...I have heard the same thing.

However I know people, me being one of them prior to 2009, who have lost weight a lot of weight but are on a starvation diet...almost fasting.

Which I have finally learned is not healthy at all because once you reach your goal weight, your body has not established a healthy routine of eating a well balanced diet.  Therefore the weigh soon comes back and very quickly I might add.  Cravings and ravenous appetite are common.

In 2009 I eat what I feel is a good well balanced diet, I keep regular, drink more water than other fluids, avoid sugar, white flour foods, salt, all white fat and no caffeine or alcohol plus I do only moderate daily exercise...I was 202lbs in Jan 09 and I should be 167lbs by June 09.   And I will keep it off this time around because my body has adapted to a healthy diet.

In my opinion your body runs best on a well balanced diet of natural food, no pills, kits, shakes or powders.

Weight Loss Pu-erh tea for weight loss. May 23 2009

there are many teas, herbs, veggies and grains that will supress appetite.

I prefer to eat the high nutrient and fibre foods because they do realistically fill you.  For example a bowl of oatmeal or rolled oats in the morning will fill you very quickly, low in calories, high nutrients and high fibre...this helps the digestion, keeps you regular and  helps you lose weight because you will not feel hungry and will stop eating.

. if you listen to that inner voice that says.."I am full".

.so many people ignore that voice and press on.  In 2009 on my new weight loss program, I listen very closely to that voice.

Foods If I drain and wash the fat off the ground beef, will it be healthier? May 23 2009
04:18 (UTC)

the more lean the meat, the better.  When I was eating red eat, I would slowly fry the meat, on low low low  temp so the meat does not burn..then pour off the grease/fat periodically.  By the time the meat was cooked thru most of the fat was out.  If you cook it to fast the meat is seared and fat is left in the meat...so the secret I found is cooking it on a low heat.

My fav was ground beef, cooked as above, then I would add, a can of tomatoes, a can of tomato paste, diced onions celery and carrot.  Mix this all in with the hamburg then and a cup of cooked white rice and spices to taste.  This mixture was very filling, great by itself or on an open faced slice of bread or bun, like a sloppy joe.  Yummy.

Those days are gone until I hit my ideal...then I would be able to eat maybe 1 cup of this instead of 6 to 8 cups...lol

I assume your not doing drugs and are not on any meds.  If your are see your Doctor.

Drink water only but avoid sugar and caffeine when you feel like this.

...go for walks, exercise, get some fresh air

....take a yoga class, learn how to meditate.

Your okay for weight all you have to do is like who you are.

Weight Loss weird weight loss May 22 2009

certainly need more details about you...especially your past history of weight loss programs.

as a rule if I plateau I add cleansing foods to my diet to make sure I stay regular and am not carrying old waste around.

I check my Blood Pressure daily during a plateau and weekly the rest of the time...I like to make sure my heart is happy with what I am feeding and doing to my body.

...weight loss is different with everyone, emotions can play into this too.  I find people who are in love will lose weight faster than those having problems with love.  For the emotions, I found meditation, yoga, avoiding  sugar, fat and salt and drinking more water than other drinks including caffeine drinks..were good ideas.

Good luck, do not give up, be patient...if it took 10 years to gain the weight it is not going to disappear in a couple of months.  Plateaus are common and I consider a time for your body to evaluate what is next and see if you will give up.

Weight Loss weight loss pills May 22 2009

OF COURSE MANY OF THESE PILLS WORK BUT THEY ARE DEFINITELY NOT HEALTHY.

they change how your body will digest food...many block the fats, good fats too.  There is a dependency on them that develops...your body will expect them to be there and if not...the weight comes back on very quickly.  You become a pill popper.  Is that what you want?

Please try the safest way, eat a well balanced diet with more water than other fluids, exercise and do not take pills or use kits to lose the weight.

Educate your Mom on how you plan to do it using CC website.  Lots of good guidance there and maybe she will see it is the way to go too.

These pills are not free also, so the saving in $$ is something to consider as well.

Our bodies were made to eat food not pills.

Weight Loss How do I set my mother straight? May 22 2009

as a parent we do have the right to question what our children do to themselves while under our care and supervision.

I would not go ahead and just start doing the diet without first getting your Parents support..which looks like it is your Mom's support you need here.

It is important to give your Mom some facts...CC has lots of info you can print out and let her read.  Work on showing her why there is a need and what you need to do.

She is the one buying the groceries and until you leave home you have to convince her to buy what you need in healthy food to maintain a well balanced healthy diet using CC guidelines.  Let her know you are not doing it your self but following a reputable program, let her see it...get setup enter all your data on CC and print out the results...your BMI under tools etc.

SHOW HER YOU REALLY KNOW WHY!

The fear we parents get is you will follow some starvation diet and many kids do become anorexic because of it.  The fact you know you want to lose weight is good but with Mom in your corner it will be so much easier.

Weight Loss eating with men! May 22 2009
14:29 (UTC)

::::::ON BEHALF OF THE MALE SPECIES:::::

I think it is a known fact that most men and I mean a healthy or should I say unhealthy majority, do not take care of their bodies.

We eat to fast, eat and drink anything and will have no problems at all at those wonderful "all you can eat food bars"....and we do not mind showing you ladies what a human pig is like too!

But you gotta love us...after all we are men!

However what surprised me was... when I finally decided in 2009 to lose the weight and stick to a sane weight loss program....how many women commented to me lately:

1-my you are eating slow now

2-my you are not eating as much

3-are you sick?

Yes ladies we are all still in a man's world, somehow controlled by you wonderful women??!!

So forgive us our trespasses when it comes to food and beer...fore most of us honestly, do not know what we must do when it comes to eating properly or exercising.

Yet we are catching on...on my road there are 6 women walking/jogging every day...there is one man....ME!   Cool

And at Yoga class there are 30 women and about 5 men and guess who is one of those five men... ME!   and I like the hot Bikram Yoga!Wink

It takes time, your patience and understanding but eventually we will clue in with those women who want to be slim and healthy.

THANK YOU AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

Weight Loss My bodybugg says I burn 2800+ calories a day, why can't I lose weight?? May 22 2009
14:08 (UTC)
4

anything dependent on computer calculations is only as good as the data going into it.  On CC I am told many things based on the data I put in.  But I am not doing it every day so the program adjusts for that data it receives which makes it in error.  I found this about ur  device:

What is the Body Bugg?

The Body Bugg Calorie Management System is an armband that helps you keep track of calories you burn and eat. It has been featured on the TV show, “The Biggest Loser.” By purchasing the Body Bugg Calorie Management System, users also get a 45 minute phone session with a phone coach.

Does the Body Bugg Work?

The Body Bugg is effective at counting calories although there are a few kinks. You must input the calories yourself into the system which can be a hassle. Finding how many calories are in the food you eat can be a chore as well.

Some cons about the Body Bugg are that it doesn’t by itself help you lose weight. It just lets you know how many calories you’re consuming and burning. You still have to be disciplined in how you eat and exercise. Also there have been complaints as to the effectiveness of the 45 minute phone call with the phone coach.

How much does the Body Bugg Calorie Management System cost?

The Body Bugg Calorie Management System is expensive. It can be found online for $214.99. If you want the web subscription plan with it, it is an additional $14.99 a month.

Body Bugg Conclusion

The Body Bugg Calorie Management System might be a good idea if you have some extra money just make sure to still eat right, exercise, and take an effective supplement. If not, you might consider counting your own calories and saving $230.

=======

My CONCLUSION: it is an expensive gadget but is a computer..you HAVE to put all the data in...counting calories is not easy..you must enter something for the toppings you put on food..not just the food you eat..so a salad may have 100 calories but it jumps to 200 calories with toppings.. Your Bugg will work but you have to be more diligent about entering all the data.  Like CC ...you get out what you put in!

Weight Loss CC has lowered my daily burn rate from 2070 to 2020; is it based on my input over months? May 22 2009

it is all computer generated based on what data you put in..I have been told my weight Goal will not be hit until July 09, I expect to hit it by June 09.  Am I right or the CC computer program?

Maybe I did not put in enough info, maybe I missed some data..but based on what I put in that is what I get back.   It is only a guideline and great way to have additional data as you lose the weight.  But you must decide in the end what is best for you and what works for you.   Computer programs are great but they are not 100% all the time.

Weight Loss hello everyone May 22 2009
04:41 (UTC)

Hi michelle...sunshinebaby22.

Welcome and I for one have some ideas to give you in hopes it helps.

So you 27 179 lbs working to 120....>.good goal.

You said you have 2 boys...going to school to be an esthiologist, massage therapist, personal trainer. ...>you are a very busy, make sure you get some good sleep with all this that is going on around you.  :)

You have a lot of knowledge about how to loose weight i just never seem to accept my own and take my own advice......>this seems to be common among many who give advice even with some on CC...I guess it is easier to, "do as I say but don't do as I do!"  lol

I am one person who does what I say and feels good about my weight loss program.  Jan 09 was 202, now 172 will be 167 very soon.  My Financee has joined me..she was 153 is now 122 and wants to be 115 very soon.

You said your working out everyday and just started calorie counting yesterday--->CC has an excellent food log which helped me learn the calorie, nutrient and fibre content of foods.  After many years of weight up and down cycles, this is the year I am hitting my ideal and I will keep it off.   Thanks in part to CC...there is a lot of good info...check out the tools too.

so a strict 1 1/2 weeks since i really started to get focused and lost a whole 3 lbs but at least it is a start.....>it is easy at the start but stay focused.  I would suggest you keep a diary, take your measurements neck, chest, tummy, hips and thigh...I found true weight loss is more real with the measurements rather than just the scales.  And finally if you have access to a heart monitor record your Blood Pressure and Pulse as I found this confirmed that what was doing was fine with  my heart.  And you will hit plateaus ...but do not be alarmed this is normal.

My aches and pains are the least of my worries right now....>I found drinking a small glass of milk after a good work out eliminates the aches and pains I would normally have the next day...if you try it let me know if it worked for you.

So good luck and feel free to keep in touch.  Posting to the Forum is a good  way to meet a lot of new people and know your not alone with your weight loss.

Weight Loss how do you measure lobster for cc? May 21 2009
15:37 (UTC)

thx Gi..

1lb of raw lobster will yield between 1/3lb to 1/2lb of edible flesh.   So a 1.25lb lobster will yield 7oz - 10oz (200 - 275 cals).

no more all you can eat lobster fests for me...I will not say how many I ate at one of these crazy pig outs. before 2009.  But add the garlic butter and look out.

I will now eat one and savour the taste, eat it slowly and pretend I have just eaten 10 juicy lobsters!  lol

..for you bump up the calorie intake...you need it because your burning it off.

Consider eating more stable foods that stay with you.

..many of the grains and cereals...like rolled oats...will stay with you longer.  You can also have a 1/2 bowl of bran, with some grains or berries when hungry, with out the worry of to many calories.  With high fibre and nutrients you will fill that gap.

I would to but have chosen Popcorn and Nutella spread on a toast as my only once and in while treats.

While on my weight loss program...it is working great...so as long as your healthy,  happy and losing weight...should be okay once in while.

However, I found the further I stayed away from the snacking the faster I lose the weight...I eat more veggies, cereals and grains this time around which works for me.

Weight Loss Frustrated by the plateau May 21 2009

you wll be told here on CC your on a starvation diet ..seems your doing everything else right except for that.

Could try introducing more healthy fibre like psyllium husks, flax seed, rolled oats, rye and splet flakes...when I did this I found my weight loss kicked back in.

Most health food or bulk food stores have these.  There are numerous other grains and cereals which are very high in fibre and nutrients too which before 2009 I never would eat.

Retrained the taste buds this time around...to try new things.

Takes time for the body to adjust...

Foods Help with Corn May 21 2009

CC shows one normal serving is 77 grams and is 44 calories..no butter or salt..on a can of Green Giant corn, whole kernels it says 1/2 a cup kernels is 60 calories...so i see no reason why a couple of cobs would not be okay.

However the kernel has a very hard to digest shell, so chewing the corn well in my opinion is important for digestion.   I would not pig out on it like I did in 2008...but I would enjoy it, eating slowly, savouring the taste and still stay with in my calorie count.   Now I am wanting some! lol  But what about butter and salt?....hmm..I can do without salt this year as I have had no salt with my weight loss program since January 09..however maybe some margarine with some spice would work...  anyone know what can replace the butter on corn of cob?

Mango..I will eat one no problem..had no idea one mango was 140 calories..so on my new weight loss program I would eat half of mango.  Again eating slowly and savouring every tasty bite.

For me that is key...eat less volume, eat slowly and enjoy what I eat...taking my time and still staying in my calorie limit.

Your right...

However, if you had no back problems before, a few pounds should be of no consequence.

When born your body grows with you and was designed to hold a certain weight...when you surpass that weight at what ever age it happens.

..the first thing to go is the lower back..Vertebra #3, 4 and 5  will be compressed even more and it has nerves that can shoot down to your legs and out your arms causing tingling in your fingers and toes.

Big breasted women suffer lower back problems more than small breasted women and the only cure is the breast reduction.

The skeletal structure is not made to carry that extra fat for many women which unfortunately many women want because many men want it too.  lol

To me a B or C cup is the best for the lower back.

Weight on the rest of the body can also have the same affect on the spine.  Most people who are extremely over weight will find their ankles can no longer support the extra weight and when you add the waste they carry in the colon, you have more serious problems for the spine.

Inversion therapy helps traction the spine and reverse this damage and pain but losing the weight and getting rid of those extra fatty pounds, is the best permanent fix.

It is estimated that 66% of adult Americans have recurring back pain.  And most of this is due to being over weight.  People who are over weight actually do more harm to when they left weights, walk or run because this all puts pressure on the spine.  They want to do it to lose weight but end up with back problems doing it.

A "Catch 22"!

Keep the weight off and stay at your ideal weight.  That is common sense.

Health & Support The Colon does NOT hold up to 40 pounds of poo. May 21 2009

I checked out that website to read the John Wayne and Elvis... It says the following:

[Collected on the Internet, 1999]
By the way when they did an autopsy on John Wayne (Mr. Macho himself) 40 pounds of impacted fecal matter was removed from his death inducing cancerous colon. That's because Humans are not evolved for Animal eating. Animal fats lodge in the folds and pockets of our intestines. Carnivores have smooth intestinal linings and do not have these problems.
[Hainer, 1999]
It's said that, according to the autopsy, John Wayne had 40 pounds of impacted fecal matter in his body at death. Elvis reportedly had 60 pounds.

========

Ladies...please drop the 40 pound thing, and  read what I say...the 40 pound thing is in chronic cases...and I believe that is very possible.  There will be more IBS as we have obesity and constipation increasing in our youth.  North America has an obesity crisis and our youth will not be healthy if they are eating wrong, sitting at the computer for days on end and will be candidates for heart disease and diabetes at earlier and earlier ages.

IBS is on the incline...it use to be a 50 year and older problem now I have knowledge of three people fighting for their lives which started as constipation, moved to colitis and is not Chron's disease.

This is a very serious topic and you will hear more about it  from people you know and love.  I have a relative who turned 31 and will be lucky if he reaches 35...because he did not watch his diet and his waste elimination. The signs things were wrong where all there in his waste.   One more reason why this is a very important topic for me.

TO:       eringilbert       A _hitty topic indeed.  lol

Yes it is me the massageguy the man who pushes balanced diet with natural foods ..no pills or kits for weight loss.  And yes at least two BM's a day for healthy weight loss.  And yes in chronic cases there have been reported 40 pounds of waste accumulated in the colon.  You have misinterpreted what was said.  The words "in chronic cases..it is possible for 40 pounds of accumulation" but that is rare..I hope.  With the obesity in North America on the rise it may happen more often than we think.

...most people will hold some weight there, they have to or we would not be going #2..right!   lol

Twice a day on the toilet is not that often for a BM.  However if you drink the water your suppose to as many say your to do, you will be on the toilet every hour on the hour.  That makes no sense to me especially if working at a job or as a student.

For raw sewage waste...if you eat 5 pounds of food in day, where do you think the waste accumulates?  How much waste would be left after digestion and water absorption?   2 pounds or more?   Every person is different and every person needs to be sure the waste elimination process is working efficiently, as it is a very important part of digestion and weight loss.

I suggest the use of natural foods only for any cleanses as the body will do the rest.

Yes most Net or TV cleansing advertised is to sell something.   The people/businesses pushing the colon, kidney and liver cleanses are selling pills and kits.    I say there is no need for that but use food to do it.

If the body gets the right foods it will do the job it self, naturally.  All I am saying, is most of us are not eating the right foods, to allow this to happen naturally.

Finally ...constipation is something you have heard of...how many pounds would a person hold if they were constipated for 4 or 5 days or more?   Anyone know?  Is it around 5, 10 or 20 pounds?  Well it all depends on what your eating!  A big meat eater would easily hold around 10 to 20 pounds after 4 days.

What goes in is just as important as what comes out.  It just does not look as good.    lol

Have a nice day...relax... it is a forum all we are doing is think tanking.

May the flow be with you.
