Weight Loss The 2-5 pounds to go and stuck thread ... Join me to lose the last few pounds! Dec 09 2008

Hey ladies, sorry I've been MIA for awhile...I've been having a really hard time staying on track since Thanksgiving and therefore have kind of retreated from CC because of it. Luckily the damage doesn't seem to be too bad--I'd guess I'm sitting around 122 right now, so not a big deal. I did decently Saturday, Sunday, and today...had a small deficit, but at this point any deficit is a good thing! I know tomorrow and Wednesday will be rough because the bulk of my finals, as well as work, will be those days.

I think I'm going to really try to work on maintaining until after Christmas, and then use January to hopefully get down to my goal weight of 118 in time for my trip to Ireland!

By the way, I finally have an updated picture. :-) My last picture was from March, where I was around 133, so this one is more accurate.

Foods Post Healthy Alternatives!! Nov 26 2008

My favorite alternative is the Gardenburger portabella burgers as a substitute for a big, juicy hamburger.

Most of the time I just want the 'meaty' taste of a burger, which the portabella burgers--90 calories a patty--mimic. Really, my favorite part of a burger is the pickles, so I load those, lettuce, tomato, and mustard on a 120 calorie sandwich bun, and have a big, juicy burger for under 250 calories! Super filling and delicious!

It can cause stomach ulcers, cavities, cracked teeth, sore throat, swollen glands, and mouth sores, to start with.

It may not be an eating disorder, but it's definitely disordered eating. Food is not meant to be chewed up and then spit back out. It's not a healthy, normal relationship to harbor guilt over eating and therefore chew it up and spit it back out. Plus, on a less serious level, it's a waste of fuel that our bodies need, and it's GROSS.

Elen--I am *sure* you need more than 1300 to maintain. 1300 is probably your BMR. 1300X1.2 is 1560, which is your sedentary burn, which is probably what you'd need to maintain with no exercise. (That sounds about right, as I'm 5'2 as well, 121lbs, and my sedentary burn is about 1670).

Been doing okay this week--enough that I've mostly undone the damage from the potluck on Friday. Back down to 121.6 this morning, but that's with my period, so I'm hoping there's some water retention in there. Undid the damage just in time for Thanksgiving! :-D

How tall are you? Since you're only 13, chances are that you're still growing height-wise, so he/she might not mention it at all. If they do, they may just ask if you're physically active, and if you aren't, may suggest some activities to get you up and moving. If you are physically active, they'll probably not be concerned while you're so young and may very well have another big growth spurt.

I'm studying abroad in Ireland in the spring, and have had some of the same fears about what you're facing--how will I keep my weight down? How will I exercise? How much weight will I gain? What should I eat?

And then I realized, SCREW IT! I'm going to be studying in EUROPE! This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! I'll have all the time in the world to lose any excess weight once I get home.

So my advice is--relax. ;-) It's good to be conscious of what you're eating, but don't fret the extra pounds, and don't let your fear of them inhibit you from enjoying this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to its fullest extent. You're in Paris! Live it up! Don't let your weight concerns cast a shadow over your experience. Moderation is key, and a good thing to practice, but actively worrying won't help anything.

Enjoy your year!

Hey guys, can I join? :-D I've been fighting these last few pounds for MONTHS, and I need a final push to try and get there! I leave for Ireland for a study abroad session on February 1st, so I'd love to be at goal by Jan. 1st, or at least within reach!

I'm Ashley, 20 years old, a junior in undergraduate college, sharing an off-campus house with four friends. I'm 5'2, starting weight back in September 2007 (yup, last year) was 151lbs. Today I weighed in at 122.0--up a little bit because of TTotM, plus we had a Thanksgiving potluck at my house on Friday that I'm STILL recovering from, food-wise!

5% of 122 is six pounds, which would put me at 116. My goal is actually 117/118, so I'm going to go with five pounds. :-)

Weight Loss Water To Control Hunger? Is This Just Rubbish? Nov 24 2008
13:48 (UTC)

The truth is, if you're truly HUNGRY, water will not be enough to satisfy you. The reason people tell you to drink a lot of water (besides the fact that water is good for you!) is because our brain, a lot of time, tells us we're thirsty/dehydrated and we mistake those signals for hunger. A lot of times we think we need a big cheeseburger when really our body wants a tall glass of water.

The reason you may be feeling MORE hungry is because water helps your metabolism run to its best ability. If it's running more efficiently (which is a good thing!), you'll feel hungry and want more calories. :-)

Motivation Frustration in clothing - no consistency in Plus Sizes. Nov 24 2008

I agree completely. While I don't have to deal with the stress of trying to find plus size clothing, it's similar with trying to find short/petite cut clothes. Major department stores will have a petites section, but an outlet store, I'm out of luck unless I want to get everything hemmed by a tailor, which is just time consuming and expensive.

Luckily, I think things on the plus-size front are at least getting a *little* better. Department stores are starting to have plus size sections, and it seems for example, that sizes even in the 'normal' sections are expanding. When I was in high school, the biggest size you would see in the juniors section is a size 13. Now you'll see up to a 19. And there are stores like Torrid popping up. But I agree with you completely that it's just wrong that clothing for plus size people is either a) made unavailable or b) made unATTRACTIVE. Because, y'know, "you're fat, so there's no way you could ever feel like you look GOOD, so here's a cow-print dress." It's just moronic. Everyone, no matter their size, needs clothes! Well, at least in our society. ;-)

EDIT: And I'm glad that my post made you feel better! I think the changes you're making are amazingly commendable. And unfortunately other people don't seem to understand that you can't 'do something' about it overnight and go immediately from a size 24 to a size 8. Yes, you may be wearing 2X right now, but that's just one of the stops between 3X and M!

Y'know, I was thinking about some of the things wholegraingoddess said--before she got way out of line, in my humble opinion, with the judgemental remarks--and how wrong the assertion of 'if you're 100% happy with your body, the number won't matter' is.

First of all, I refuse to believe that anyone is 100% happy with their body, 100% of the time. We all suffer from times of doubt, from things we don't like or want to change. And in the society we live in, we all suffer from 'fat phobia'.

And when we lose weight, we feel better, but I know for me, if a size of jeans runs really small and I need, for example, a size 9, it's like stepping into those old 'fat feelings', stepping into that old size. I was never very overweight--about 15 pounds overweight and I carried it pretty well--but a size 11 for a girl at 5'2 made me all kinds of self-conscious. And yes, I'm pretty happy with my body now, but even annoyance aside, putting on a size that fit so many pounds ago is like putting back on those POUNDS, for a few minutes. We can rationalize it all we want that it's 'just a number', but in the end...it's not. And I totally understand not only modifiedme's annoyance that sizes vary so much, but (I might be making an assumption here, but it seems on par with what you've said so far...please correct me if this isn't the case!) the annoyance of feeling, even for that moment, that she's back at the beginning, because here she is, at the size she started at. And she's not the WEIGHT or the INCHES that she started at...but the pant number can play tricks on you sometimes.

And on a lighter note, lame boy emo-pants are lame!

We did pizza night once a week because my mom worked part time, and the day that she worked all day my brother and I would have CCD, so there would be no time to cook and eat dinner. That was, if I recall correctly, Monday night. Then we would go out I would estimate every other Friday night. The rest of the nights my mom cooked. :-) Fast food like McDonald's was a thing we got maybe once a month instead of pizza.

My brother, too, is a Type 1 Diabetic and has been since he was 11  (he's 17 now, so it'll be six years this January). He eventually made the switch over to the pump--he was very, very reluctant because his medical team, while encouraging him to try it, warned him that getting used to it would be almost like being diagnosed with diabetes all over again, with the constant adjusting and checking and relearning how to take care of it.

But now he LOVES it, and doesn't regret for a minute making the switch. He's, as I said, a teenage boy, so he eats like a heifer, and it makes his life so much easier to just be able to dial in what he ate rather than give himself a shot to cover it. He has to carry less around with him and eating is less of an ordeal. It makes him feel more normal, and able to be more discreet.

That said, a pump is certainly not necessary--it's just the most up-to-date treatment.

I don't even have an ED, and I had to take an extended break from CC because it was driving me crazy, counting the calories of everything and worrying if I were burning enough calories to cover what I was eating while on vacation. You'll be better off leaving this behind while you get well--good luck!

Ladies and womens are the same thing--clothing made for women that are labeled with even numbers (size 2, 4, 6, 8, etc.) Misses is also the same as ladies and women, unless it's petite misses, as wholegraingoddess said, in which case it's made for shorties like me. Juniors is made for teens and young adult women and is cut in a style more 'youthful'. It's usually cut lower on the hips. Juniors clothes is also labeled with odd numbers--size 1, 3, 5, 7, etc.

Original Post by wholegraingoddess:

You and everyone else should be grateful that different labels clothing fits differently-otherwise Im sure some people would be destined to never have anything fit them correctly.

Youre not upset about the clothing-youre upset about your own weight. If you were a size/weight  that you were truly happy and healthy at, then when you went shopping you wouldnt be upset by having to go up to the next size in this, or be overly estatic about going down a size in that. You could be confident and just accept that clothes are made differently by every brand and label.

If you are just losing weight to be a certain clothing size-then thats your choice. But you are never going to be 100% happy because EVERY brand is different. And rather than feeling sorry for yourself because of it, you should channel that into motivation to hit the gym.

That's a nice lecture, but I think the OP *is* doing something about it since she said she's in transition and has already gone from a size 24 to a size 14. And speaking as someone who *is* generally happy with their size, I *still* find it a pain that numbers are completely arbitrary. There's so many clothes I'd love to just order online, for example, but often have no idea what size to get! I don't feel bad when I have to get a size 5 rather than a size 3. But it's annoying when I get three pairs of pants for Christmas that are all the same size and one pair is too big, one pair is too small, and one pair is tight at the hips but gaps at the waist.

Just tell her. My mom, my freshman year of college, would send me things all the time--and yes, that would include candy baskets at Halloween, Valentine's Day, my birthday, finals time, etc! I simply told her that I really loved her sending me things/thinking of me, and that I loved getting cards in the mail from her (so she knew that it wasn't HER, it was just the CANDY), but I was trying to watch my weight and I didn't really want candy. She completely understood.

Of course, now that I'm a junior she's over that 'my baby's away at collegeeeee!!!!' thing and doesn't send me anything. ;-)

Foods Coffee - Regular or Decaf Nov 23 2008
18:11 (UTC)

Hehe, I always used to joke that decaf coffee was POINTLESS--the only reason to DRINK coffee is for the caffeine! But the more I've been drinking it, the more I've been enjoying it simply for the taste, so I can understand the decaf way of thinking!

That said, I usually only have one or two cups (probably 10oz-12oz each) a day, and I do use it for the caffeine, so I stick with that stuff. :-)

So I planned on eating super light today, but that just hasn't been panning out. I'll still end up with a deficit, but a much smaller one than I had hoped. :-( I just keep picking at the 'dump cake' that I made for the potluck...it's delicious but looks unappetizing which means most of it was left after last night--crushed pineapple, cherry pie filling, yellow cake mix mixed together and topped with walnuts and baked for forty minutes. Ughhhh!!! I planned to eat around 1200 for the day, and it's only 6:30 here and I'm already up to 1400. And I'm sure I'll end up snacking on something later--I'm going to try and skip my nightly snack of nutella/wheat bread (200 cals) and instead have rice cakes (100 cals) so that I end up at 1500 for the day.

Siiiigh. I'm so mad at myself for all the picking I've been doing!

Hey guys...wayyyy overdid it at the Thanksgiving potluck. SIGH. I just get so mad at myself because I'll be FULL, I'll be BEYOND full, but things just look so GOOD that I'll continue shoving it in my face! :-(

So, hoping to be very, very good until the actual Thanksgiving! The only thing I saved was the mashed potatos my friend made...they were SOOOOO good.

Ugh, I'm just so mad at myself! I knew it was going to be a 'free' day, but y'know...it didn't have to be THAT free. I'm not mad that I went over my calories, I'm mad that I just seem to lack control...that I'll just eat and eat and eat in these situations. It doesn't happen often, just in party situations. SIGH. :-(

Its home to Mommy to feed me lots for the weekend haha!Good luck everyone hope I can stick to moderate overeating for the weekend, havent decided if Im boozing yet, but im leaning towards no just so I can stay on track!

Are you sure maybe you didn't step on it wrong? I weighed myself on the WW scale a few days ago and it said 127--I had a "whoa!" moment, jumped off, reset it, and got back on to have it read 121.8...which was much more what I had been expecting!

Anyway, last night I went to Applebee's so ended up at maintenence calories, and tonight is our house's Thanksgiving potluck with our friends so I'm sure to go way over today! :-P What a wash for this week!

If your nutritionist, aka the person who is actually helping you out in this situation and knows you personally, tells you that you shouldn't count calories, it would be VERY irresponsible for anyone on a website who DOESN'T know you to tell you differently.

Listen to your nutritionist. She/he is there to help you get better. Don't count calories.

Is it too late to join?

I'm 19, 5"6', 118lbs after two months of french toast and pancakes (I recently moved to Canada where the breakfasts are HEAVENLY) and I'd ideally like to get back down to 112 but would settle for 115. I'm aware that both weights would mean me being underweight but I'm just not comfortable at my current weight ... I know its weird.

I'm terrible at sticking to a calorie limit so i'm trying to get there by working out instead. I currently average about 1500-1800 calories a day and exercise for 2 hours, 3-5 days a week. But apparently it's not enough cuz I've gained, so I'm going to have to cut back on the calories a little. I'm not giving up the pancakes for anyone, though. Tongue out

hannah, you're more than welcome to join, of course, but (and I'm just beating nycgirl to the punch here), CC advocates HEALTHY weight loss--which means staying within a healthy BMI range. You're probably losing weight because you're underweight, which is a health risk.

I understand not feeling comfortable with your body, but maybe you should work on increasing your lean body mass/decreasing fat rather than losing pounds? :-) Good luck!

Went over my projected calories again today, but only by about 120 or so. Still had a deficit of about 100 calories. Guess I'll have to take what I can get!

I should go to the gym tomorrow/Friday, but it's so hard to get the motivation. My mom got a membership to Planet Fitness that lets her bring a guest anytime she goes, so at least over winter break I can go with her when she goes (although my mom doesn't have the best track record with gyms! Guess that's where I get it from!).

I feel like it's because we're so close to goal that we suffer from lack of motivation. I mean, really, you can't see three pounds in the mirror. You can CLAIM you do, but you really can't. It's just the difference between feeling a little 'jiggly' and feeling nice and fit. It's just the difference between those jeans fitting nicely and fitting a little snugly. And we DO feel better when we're lighter, but when we're so close to goal, it's hard to really remember the big deal about those three-four pounds.
