My boyfriend and I just went to a Halloween party and we went as the Yip Yip's from Sesame Street.

Here's a clip of the Yip Yip's if you don't know who they are:

I can't stand the plain taste of water either so I usually drink flavored sparkling water. It has 0 calories and it tastes really good (almost like soda), the only downfall is it's carbonated so it's not that great for your teeth.

you said you are aiming to be 120 lbs at 5'7", I just want to point out that this will classify you as underweight and is unhealthy. For a 5'7" female you should actually be around 135.

I used to get a grande nonfat peppermint mocha w/o whip cream everyday. I still am obsessed with them but I decided I didn't want to spend 4$ everyday on it so now i just get coffee at Dunkin Donuts :'(

Although every once and awhile I still get one as a treat.

me to!

I'm female, 5'9" and 145 lbs. I think my body fat is around 23% but that's from an online calculator so it's probably inaccurate, I would love to be around 18%. I'm looking to tone and get stronger.

I just started weight training with a personal trainer at the gym and I also spend about 20 minutes on the elliptical after weight training. In addition to that I also take kung fu (the reason why I want to get stronger).

You are probably not eating enough. For your current stats 1500 is fine for days when you do not work out, on work out days I would recommend upping your calories to 1800.

Me and my friends go out to eat at Chili's every so often and sometimes we get the chocolate chip paradise pie at 1600 calories. Granted we split the one desert between 4 of us, and it fills us all up, I can't imagine someone ever eating the whole thing by themselves.

@queensaline.

I'm also thinking about maybe dropping the weight again and getting down to 135. I'm guessing the reason I was so tired when I lost weight was because I had to high of a calorie deficit for someone who is already an "ideal" weight. This way I could loose some excess body fat in that area and then work on getting tone. I'm just afraid if I get down to 135 I'm going to loose some muscle in the process.

I just want to add that this is completely normal for your age. Teen's brains and body are hard wired so that they don't start getting tired and shut off till around 1am.

have you changed your exercise habits recently? because this is another major reason. I just started going to the gym about 2 months ago in addition to my regular training and b/c of the switch to the gym I have missed mine too, even though I eat plenty.

you could also try bringing something to read like a magazine or book. Whenever I do cardio I bring a book and I quickly loose track of time and can easily keep going for an hour or more if i want to.

It's also a good idea to cover the timer on whatever machine you are using so that way the time doesn't seem to drag by.

I usually have a couple strength training exercises my sifu has me do after class in addition to training. Other than that I've been going to the gym to so I'm not to concerned about how many calories I'm burning, etc. , It's more about making the most of my training.

I've been doing kung fu for 3 years.

See the problem is sometimes we'll have to have easy classes because there will be a lot of newer people in the class and they basically drop dead from exhaustion if the class is to hard. On those days I don't feel like I burn that many calories, but on occasion we'll have really hard classes again depending upon how many new people are there. I definitely burn a lot more on those harder classes and they make me sweat a lot more, I love the harder classes because they are a lot more challenging.

I've taken Kung Fu for the past 3 years.

It's so much fun and I love using the weapons. I'm currently training for 2 competitions in the late spring.

oh man I have this problem to. I take Kung Fu and when I first started it felt like a really good workout but now that my body has gotten used to it I hardly break a sweat. I'm usually at kung fu 5 days a week and I'm working out for about an hr or hr and 15 minutes. I usually just mark it down as 300 calories burned per hr, the 600 that judo gives you in the calculator just seems to high.

ooh i'm going to chilli's tonight also. Whenever I've gone before I usually save up my calories for the day and get the classic sirloin steak which has 540 calories, and then i just get steamed broccolli as the side which has 80 calories (they offer you 2 sides so 160 if you get 2) it also comes with garlic toast so if you get the toast it's 200 calories but you can also ask for no toast.

ooh, happy early b-day, I'm actually turning 21 on March 2nd so I'm having a similar problem to. I don't think i'm gonna worry about what i eat on that day though b/c you only turn 21 once so it's good to just let yourself have a day off, besides one day wont make much of a difference overall so we might as well just enjoy it.
Fitness Can you LOSE endurance from working out? Feb 21 2008

It might be because your muscles are tired from all that working out. I take kung fu and I've personally noticed that if I go a lot during the week I'm able to do less and less push ups or my endurance goes down a bit b/c my muscles are so worn down, whenever I give myself a break of about 2 or 3 days with out exercise I'm able to perform much better. Try giving yourself a break for a few days w/o working out so your body can recover and then see how you do.

I never was very fond of HP/Compaq laptops myself, they're always very bulky and not fun to lug around and sometimes poorly made.

I would recommend either a Sony Vaio or a Dell. Both are very reliable, nice looking, and very user friendly, although Vaio's tend to be a bit more expensive than Dell. This is coming from someone who's a computer science major, actually most of my other friends who are also computer science nerds use either Dells or Vaio's they're excellent laptops.

congrats on your goal, 90lbs is a lot.

I read your profile and noticed your a sys admin, that's what i want to do when I'm a little older, I'm currently going to school for software engineering. I also noticed you like anime so it's good to know I'm not the only geek on here.

Thanks. The sad thing about me liking anime is that I'm 43. Young people like yourself (you are about a year older than my son) can like anime and people don't think much of it. People just think I'm weird, except for the other anime geeks I work with, of course.

Good luck in school and with your health goals. My only advice to you would be that learning to make healthy choices as a young woman will make it easier when you get to be as old as me. Trying to unlearn all of my old bad habits is one of the biggest challenges I have to face, so I applaud you for starting now.

As far as your career choice, be prepared for some resistance when you start looking. For some idiotic reason, a lot of my colleagues have no respect for women sysadmins. But don't let the neanderthals in the IT field stop you from pursuing your dreams. I make a comfortable living doing what I do and if you can handle the stress, then I say go for it.

meh, I know plenty of people in their 40's who like anime so I consider it normal behavior. And thanks for the advice, I'm not to worried about the health thing because I've already turned into a bit of a health freak ever since I started taking kung fu a few years ago.

I haven't really come across much resistance yet in IT, but I also have a pretty impressive resume for a 20 yr old and am on the way to getting a few certifications under my belt, so I'm not to worried about that either.

Thanks for the advice and congrats on your milestone

Thanks for writing this. On the weekends i tend to go out a lot to different restaurants with my boyfriend and it's hard to stay within my calorie range so this makes me feel better for what I ate yesterday. Strangely enough I went over the amount I normally eat yesterday and I ate some junk food in there to and I managed to loose a pound from it.

Weight Loss how to increase protein, when vegitarian? Feb 08 2008

To get enough protein I usually make a protein shake using water and the protein powder that comes in the big containers. Personally I don't think it tastes that great but it gets the job done with 26g of protein. Also, peanut butter is a good source of protein.
