Weight Loss How to stop thinking about food... Feb 15 2008

If you're not that hungry during the day, go light on the calories and fat for breakfast and lunch.  Like you, I'm a night time snacker.  I got in this position by eating cheese and doritoes and hershey bars every night after I put my kids to bed.  In order to lose weight, I have to keep my calorie intake under 1,500/day.  I need to eat low calorie regular meals, in order to have the allowed snacks that I want.  Most days I'll get away with less than 200 calories for breakfast by having rice check w/half cup of fat free milk and 1/2 cup berries.  Then I can have a 110 calorie Special K bar in early afternoon.  Many days lunch is a Lean Cuisine and a big salad.  I try to only buy Lean Cuisines that are under 300 calories.  At night, I'll eat what the family is eating if it fits into my calorie count, or if not, another low cal froz dinner and a big portion of vegetable (asparagus, peppers, brussell sprouts, whatever).  After I put the kids to bed I have a huge bowl of hot air popped popcorn (1/3 cup unpopped =213 calories and 2.67 grams of fat).  I add Molly McButter cheese buds to it (14 teaspoons = 70 calories, 0 g fat).  This gets me through the diet.  So far it is working and preventing me from cheating and I've lost 17 pounds since January 1.  Everyone know their weak spot.  If yours is night time hunger, accomodate for it.

P.S. I also love to keep a liter jug of seltzer water in my hand at all times.  Personally I love the lime.  For some reason, fizzy water makes me believe I'm getting something better than plain old water.  It must be psychological.

I absolutely must have 1/3 cup (unpopped) hot air popped popcorn w/Molly McCheese buds every night.  It's either that or I go back to cheese and doritoes.  I am totally willing to calorie cut throughout the day to ensure that I can eat 290 calories worth of popcorn every night.  Fat content is practically 0.  The cheese buds are dry and messy, but well worth it.

Hi,

I'd like to join.  I've lost 15 pounds in the last two months and I've got 15 more to go to be back to my pre-baby (pre, meaning before both kids - I've got a 6-year-old & a 19 month old) weight.  I'm at 164 today (I'm 5'8").

I started this diet at Jenny Craig & I'm still weighing in there weekly, but doing my own food now and I have been for the past week.  Jenny Craig was a good starting place for this diet, but I'm loving this web site for tracking my own calories now that I'm back on "real" food.

My biggest diet issue seems to be that I am very much all or none.  Right now, I'm all, so it's pretty easy.  However, I know that "none" could be right around the corner.  It's a little overwhelming trying to cook for the family while keeping my own meals low in calories & fat.  Many days I just give in & make whatever & eat a Lean Cuisine & a big salad.

On Jenny, I was put on a 1,200 calorie weight loss program.  I followed it pretty strictly, but now that I'm adding up calories on my own, I see that I've been consuming closer to 1,400 calories per day, once I factor in all of the vegetables, salad dressings, etc.  I seem able to drop weight pretty consistently on this total, though, so I'm ok with it.

Anyhow, I'd like the support of being part of a group for this next weight loss phase.  Good luck to all!
