Hey everybody!

I'm back too.  I joined a gym last week and have paid for a personal trainer for 6 sessions.  I've been to the gym for the last 5 days straight.  I now have a journal with all my routines that target different areas.  I will also be walking on the treadmill at least 30 minutes a day.  I am sore all over but in a good way.  I have 3 sessions with the trainer left and he will add to my routine as I go along.  I was desperate to get going and do something.  My weight went up again and I wasn't moving at all.  I think this was the push I needed.

Wish me luck  - and its good to see the sheep coming back to the flockSmile.  I know I always do better when I count calories and touch base with you guys.

Hi Everyone,

I have been visiting but not stopping.  No real weight loss to report.  But I have joined Curves again.  I haven't been there in about four years.  I'm feeling the burn!!  I'm still working on accepting me for who I am.  I read somewhere recently that we tend to hate our bodies and think of them as the enemy.  It's hard to move forward when you're working against the enemy.  I'm taking better care of me and forgiving myself for the backsliding.  I don't want my body to be the enemy any more.  I'm back working with a new doctor who has me on new blood pressure meds that seem to be working this time.  When I have the urge to splurge between meals I ask myself, "will this nourish my soul?"  "what am I really hungry for?"  Sometimes it works, which is an improvement over mindless eating all the time.

Hope everyone had a great Easter.  Margie , your aunt is in my prayers.

Hey everyone,

I applaud your courage to continue.  We all fall done but we get up, dust ourselves off and start again.  It's all we can do.  I too have been here for over a year and spent most of it pretending to buckle down.  See I've ratted myself out. Embarassed  But most important and very very new to me.  I've forgiven myself.  I have always had negative feelings about who I am.  I'm trying working very hard to change that.  I am working to forgive myself, and to love myself.  and the funny thing is I find examples of 'how tos"  all over the place.  I'm reading two books right now eat, pray love and Happy for No Reason.  I have started journaling again (on paper) to help me complete the exercises and to focus my attention on the change I want.  We all know happiness comes from within but that also means the work is ours and ours alone.  I know that bad and sad things will always happen in the world, but if I find a sense of peace and calm within myself, I can deal with what comes along and not internalize it as if it is my fault or my job to fix it.

One goofy but very affective thing that I have started doing, is I am wearing a rubber band around my wrist.  I call it my Bitter Band.  Every time I say or think a negative thought I move the band to the other wrist.  The first few days I was moving that puppy all the time.  It didn't take long to really see the difference in the reduction of negative talk in my head and out my mouth.  I think for me, I need to love who I am now and then the weight will come off.  I am not the enemy.  And neither are you.

I am grateful to be a part of this community.  Take care of yourselves today.

Yea!!

I love it that you are all still here!  I went away for a while.  Ate badly and turned it around once again.  I've lost 8 pounds recently.  I went back to the doctor and went back on blood pressure meds.  I'd let my prescription run out.  How stupid is that??  I like my new doctor she has me checking in regularly and is monitoring the meds closely so hopefully with some weight lose I will see some success and a lower blood pressure.

Kansas - I hope your son-in-law is better soon.  This economy is affecting too many good people.  We're hit hard in Michigan too.  The uncertainty for our future is hard to take.  I wish your family the best.

Take care all,

Penny

Hi All,

Sorry I haven't dropped in for a while.  I'm nursing a crummy cold.  But that is the least of my worries.  My oldest daughter had her third miscarriage on Tuesday.  She is a very brave and positive person.  She has PCOS and is very lucky to have had my only grandchild six years ago.  She and her husband would so love to have one more.  Finally after this miscarriage, her insurance will pay for chromosomal testing and try to get to the bottom of her problem.  She doesn't have any problems getting pregnant but she can't carry a baby past 12 weeks.  She is also going to go to a specialist to see if having another is feasible.  I am just heart sick over the whole thing.  My younger daughter also has PCOS and she is afraid to even try to get pregnant.

Both girls and their hubbies will be up to see us this weekend.  It was a visit that we had planned already.  I'm glad we will have this time together.  Something positive and fun for a change.

Needless to say, I am not sticking to a strict eating regiment.  However I am trying to stay busy and not binge.  Emotional eating is my downfall.  Hopefully after this weekend we will be in better spirits.

Take care

It's nice to see all the activity here again.  I had a so-so week I didn't loose but I didn't gain either.  I played Wii for the first time Saturday night at a friends house.  We bowled and golfed.  I bowled a 197.  In real life my average is 124.  Sheesh!  It was -5 degrees coming into work today.  It has been bone chilling cold for days.

Marie - I hope you are on the mend.  It's no fun being that sick.  Take care and pamper yourself a little.

Take care all,

Penny

Hi All,

I had a rocky weekend foodwise but am back at it today.  One day at a time for me and today will be a great one!  Cat emergency is over and all is well.  It's a wonder what a bottle of Resolve can do.  Geez wouldn't it be great to have a bottle of resolve for weight loss?

What I have done is planned my day to the minute with no down time to mope and eat.  I also have the day's food planned.  I seem to need structure.  Too much down time is a bad thing for me.  I tend to graze.  This time of year I eat more and do less.  Today I have errands after school and I will get that Christmas tree down tonight.  Embarassed  Does anyone else procrastinate like me?

Marie - too bad about the lamps.  You said they were for a client.  Are you an interior designer?

Stay healthy and strong today folks,

Penny

Hey Everyone,

It's good to see so many of us back at it again.  And yes I've had a very good couple of days.  I ate lunch with coworkers on Friday.  Only had vegetable soup and a side salad.  Dinner at a friend's and behaved myself.  I joined a challenge here at CC.  We weigh in on Fridays.  I've lost 5 lbs.  I'm sure it's water weight but I don't care.  I just want to see the scales move down!!!

I know I need to exercise but. . . . .   I will settle for early spring cleaning.  Rigorous housework is exercise right? Well for cryin' out loud!!  My cat just yakked on the carpet while I was sitting here typing. She's old and grumpy with very few redeeming qualities.  hmmm an eery description of me on a bad day, except the yakking part of course.  Tongue out  Well I guess I'd better clean it up.

Keep Healthy,

Penny

What a difference a day makes!  Yesterday was pretty good all around.  I ate healthy within the 1550 limit.  I didn't come home from school and mope.  I did some very needed housework and made a yummy dinner.  I haven't been sleeping well so I went to bed early.  This morning I've had a good breakfast and only watched TV to see the weather.  Now it's peaceful and quiet and I'm getting ready for work.  I find that an endless drone of bad news on the TV just gets me down.  I'm appalled at the amount of air time poor John Travolta's son's death is getting.  How is this national news?

I'm planning on having a good day today not just hoping it will be better. It sounds like we are all in the same leaky boat.  Let's start bailing and plugging the holes!!

Hey Donna,

Good for you, you are on your way!!  I hit the road running after Christmas break.  Lots of work etc...  I am back at it dietwise with fits and starts.  I need to commit and just do it.  Why does it seem so hard?  Whine, whine, whine.  I am feeling sorry for myself today.  Can you tell?  This time of year is not the best for me.  I've slid back into old habits.  Maybe if I focus on one day at a time.  Starting tomorrow of course since today is already a bust.  Yell  I keep coming back and trying.  That at least is something.  I promise not to be grumpy tomorrow!

I've been following this thread with interest.  I have decided to join in the fun but I am only doing one goal a month.  I'm focusing on getting 5 servings of veggies and fruit a day for January.  Hopefully that will be a habit by February and then I will add a new one.

good luck!

Welcome Margie,

I joined CC last February and lost 20 pounds.  I stuck with it till June and then let everything go and gained back 25 lbs.  Yikes!  I know what to do, so why don't I do it?    I found that I behaved best when I kept track of my calories and exercise.  So I'm back at it.  Thanks Donna for the inspiration and encouragement.  Let's all think smart and healthy in this new year.!!

Hi to all my CC friends,

I'm back with my tail between my legs.  I've gained back all the weight that I had lost and now I am sore all over  - Knees, feet and elbows all ache.  My body is yelling at me to lose some weight.

So I'd like to start over with you all again.  We're in this together right?  Positive thoughts for a great new year.

Hi All,

Just a note to let you all know I am alive and kicking.  I am also back at square one diet and exercise wise.  Starting over is better than doing nothing at all and just giving up.  I haven't read old posts so forgive me if I take a while to get up to speed on what everyone has been doing since last I looked in.

take care

Hi All,

I'm back at work.  No kids till next Tuesday but lots of meetings and inservice.  I have not been on the scale in a few days.  I need to get back on track.  Maybe the routine of work and fewer days with company will help.  We have one last hoorah for Labor Day weekend.  My daughter is giving a recital on the 31st and family is coming back in.

Jenika - I like your idea about looking for an alternative.  I tend to feel deprived and try to plan what I will eat before I get to the restaurant.  It's really hard isn't it?  We just have to keep at it.

Donna - I'm with you, where is everyone?  Hopefully they will come back in the fall.  It helps to have the support of others.  Have fun and stay safe on your scooter!

Hi All,

I'm back from Alabama.  I'm glad we went.  My parents celebrated their anniversary and were very happy to have their kids there.  We had a talk about what the future holds.  They are not ready to move but are both afraid of what's to come.  They agreed to ask about counseling and possible couples therapy where one party has cancer and the other is the primary caregiver.  We all live too far away to be any real day to day help.  I plan to call often and encourage them to seek help.

A slight lull before more company comes in this weekend and school starts for me on Monday.  Then more company for my daughter's recital on Labor Day weekend.  Whew!

Donna - I'm glad to hear you are on the mend.  It sounds like you really got worn down.  Take care of yourself.  We all seem to over extend don't we.  Your scooter sounds like a lot of fun.

Marie - How are you doing?  Keep positive.  You have made great progress and this is just a bump in the road.

Hope everyone is doing well - We'd love to hear an update.

Hi All,

I am in Alabama now visiting my parents.  My mom is thinner and easily tired.  We are back at the hotel so she can nap.  We'll go back for dinner.  I'm in charge of that tonight so I will bring something light.  My brother and his wife are here from S. Carolina and my sister is due in this afternoon from Delaware.  Eating healthy will be a challenge.  I hope to maintain and not gain.  We'll see.

Marie keep up the good work and don't be discouraged.  I'm not losing either right now but like we have always said - this is for life.  We keep at it and it has to work.

Take care everyone

Hi Everyone,

I have been AWOL and apologize.  We are back and forth between town and the lake.  I also had to "work" yesterday and went to a meeting on autism all day.  I also went into the office to do some things.  School starts back the week of August 25 and I have everyday that week filled with meetings already.  Hey good news!  I'm down to 199 Surprised !!!!  Finally broke the barrier.  It's been slow going but I think the daily walks are paying off.  The next week or so will be a challenge.  We have more company coming in today and they will be here right up until hubby and I leave for Alabama to see my mom and dad again.  Things aren't going well there so it may not be the most pleasant of visits.  My siblings and I are going to try and have the "Is this the safest setting for you " talk.

On a lighter note - check out my daughter's website - www.rachaelcrim.comShe is going to perform a benefit here in town for VSA Arts, a cause near and dear to my heart.  We are very proud of her.

Marie - We are all in this together and it is a life long commitment to good health.  hang in there and you will find the strength to turn it around!  You have been such a positive influence and are so upbeat.  This shall pass too!

Donna - I'm so glad to hear about Marvin's progress.  BTW did I tell you already that my hubby put a small Subaru engine on his bike and now he rides it to work on good weather days?  It gets 200 miles to the gallon.  It doesn't have to have a light or a license plate because it is still considered a bike.

Have a great weekend !

Hey all,

It's been a whole week since I posted!  I'm still at 200 which is a good thing since I had a grand ole time all last week.  We had family come in from Florida unexpectedly.  as my hubby asked, Who drives from one end of the country to the other and just shows up?  Anyway we also had a wedding and lots of entertaining.  I was still able to walk 6 of the last 7 days.  I think that's what saved me.  We move back out to the lake tomorrow.  But I will be back in town for routine appt.  etc.  I can't believe it is August!! I even checked my voice mail from work and there were messages.  School is looming around the corner.  I'm going to Mackinac Island with friends from school on Tuesday so I'll catch up on the latest then.

Hope you all are having a terrific summer.

Penny

Oh my goal today was to walk and I have already.  Yesterday I made blueberry jam and froze some berries too.  Plus I walked on the Lake Michigan beach near my house.  I love northern Michigan this time of year.

I emailed gennysaurus and she is moving across country.  Email access is hit and miss.  She said she would be able to update by mid August.  maybe . . .  Does anyone want to take over in the meantime.  We can't get into the original list but someone could make a new list and drop some of the people who haven't logged in for weeks.  We could keep it at the end and then we would just have to hit "last" to view it.  We could keep our comments and updates in our original posts so the new update would remain in the last position.  Anyone?  Anyone?

Hi all,

I met half my goal yesterday.  The important half though - I walked for an hour.  I had alot of errands to run yesterday and just didn't feel like cleaning.  So that is my goal today to eat healthy (it's Friday) and to start on the hot tub room.  I would have added my walk but I've already done it for today.  Met a friend at 7 this morning and we walked for an hour and a half.  We walked on the waterfront and looked at the big sailboats.  I think there was a regatta this week and they all end up and party here for the weekend.   They have fun races  on the bay.  Their racing sails are beautiful.

One of my weight challenges is on Friday's and I'm still at 200.  My next weigh in is on Monday.  I hope to break the 200 barrier soon, maybe by then.

have a great weekend!

Yeah!   I accomplished yesterday's goals.  I walked for one hour and gardened for two.  I also completed a grant application for a nonprofit that I chair.  It is one of those things you have to do yearly and I hate doing it and I tend to put it off till the last minute.  But I sat down all afternoon and got it down and emailed in.  Bleah.

Donna  - all I am going to do is state the goal in the morning and then reported on it the next morning.  Then set a new goal for today.  It was good to hear that Marvin is doing better.

Dess  - What are fitflops?  I loved to read your description of biscuits (cookies) in a tin.  I lived in England in the late sixties.  My dad was a pilot in the Air Force and was stationed in the East Anglia area.   We didn't live on base but in a little village called Great Dunmow.  My mom used to buy big tins of biscuits.  I loved them!!

Alice - It's good to hear the job is going well.  Ninety minutes for lunch sounds wonderful.  During the school year, I take a half hour for lunch.  The teacher's lounge is a den of bad food choices.  One of my schools draws names and celebrates everyone's birthday with a big treat for the whole staff.  They don't forget the summer birthdays so those are sprinkled in throughout the school year too.  It seems that there is a big spread every couple a days.  Then there's the holidays!  I find that I just can't have any because once I start, I can't stop.  so stick to your guns and continue to eat healthy.  It would be interesting to see if over time you influence by example.

Marie - good luck on your procedure.  I haven't done one yet.  My doctor said this will be my year.  Hope all goes well.

My goal today is to walk at least an hour and to deep clean the hot tub room.  I'm going to pick a room a day for the next few days - tear it apart and hopefully get it put back together.

Happy Day

Hi All

Congrats Dess!!  I have to focus all my grandma love on my only grandson.  Lucky , Lucky you!  Now , both of your sons are in the US right?  How often do you get to see them and their families?  You must be on cloud nine.

Donna I hope Marvin is well soon.  I hope the spinal shots work.  My mom and hubby both have had back surgery.  It's no picnic.

I have a question for all of you.  How much activity do you log in each day?  I set my original settings at sedentary and have only been logging exercise like walks and bowling.  but you can log just about everything - housework, gardening, even sexEmbarassed.  (don't ask why I checked on that one!)  Anyway I've  only used formal exercise to help determine my deficit.  What do you all use?

There is a thread on motivation that each morning you set a goal, log it in and then log in the next day to report if you accomplished your goal and then set a new goal for that day.  I think I would do better with daily mini goals that hold me accountable each and every day.  I was thinking of starting this in my journal but maybe we might try it in this thread for a week and see how it goes. Let me know what you think.

Today I will walk for at least 1 hour and I will do yard work.

Hey Everyone,

Got my walk in this morning before the rain.  I've been pretty consistent with my morning walks and my food looks pretty good.  However I'm still hanging on to 200 and have not dipped below.  I'll give it a week and then maybe I'll have to adjust something.

Marta - I'm so sorry to hear about your friend stiffing you.  But you tried to help a friend in need.  If she chooses to do the wrong thing, that doesn't diminish the good that you intended.  I had a half sister find me last year on the internet.  I didn't even know she existed.  (I had a colorful many blended families childhood).  Anyway, she said she had cancer and couldn't make rent or buy food.  I paid her rent and sent food money for about six months.  It was one of those situations where if she was scamming me, shame on her but if she was truly in need, shame on me.  I'm just saying that you did good so don't let what happened afterwards get you down.  Maybe we'll both be paid back!

It's kind of quiet out there.  I hope everyone is having an exciting healthy summer.
