I have lost almost 30 pounds in 6 months. I take medication for hypothyroidism. I feel that I don't lose if I don't exercise. Exercise is the key for me.

ka2007: I need to lose in total how much you have already lost (60 pounds). How long did it take you? Any advice or tips? I want to look sexy by Xmas[:)]

jkcliff : I've never really exercised outdoors and I've heard it's a lot harder than doing cardio in a gym. But nows the time I guess. Only figuring out how much I burn will be a problem. I 'm glad it's summer though because I live in Chicago and it's warm for ONLY 3 months!!!

melkor: I guess I can afford to buy free weights and I absolutely love Craigslist....Smile I am a poor student after all

leiann: This was the answer I was looking for. So the weight of the baked potato might change after baking but the calories remain the same.

faieriesunshine: I am 5"2 Down from 180 pounds to 158. But the scale doesn't seem to be budging.I exercise for 50 minutes n the elliptical burning 500-600 calories and I eat 1300-1350.

faieriesunshine: I am hypothyroid too. I wanted to up my calories. I have lost 22 pounds in 4 months. But it's slowing down now. Does having a smaller deficit really work? Also is there something else you're doing??

rylindis: I use my work gym and get access to it only on weekdays. But I'll see if I can work something out.

shandykat: You could be right about the iron. Also my hypothyroidism is under control and I've increased my exercise from nil to my current amount, and I'm hoping that has revved up my metabolism.

mimi_js: The weird thing about my situation is that I don't feel tired throughout the day. It's only once I get to bed that I can't get up in the morning. I feel great during the day. Never felt better... thanks to CC.

I have also noticed that if I go over my calories... I can get up in 8 hours feeling rested otherwise I need 9 or even 10.

ajara: I don't want to loose any muscleFrown . I have hardly any of it as it is.

runjenn: You're right about needing good fats. I also have high cholestrol. The bad type is down 22 points ever since I started CC. But my doctor says my good one isn't high enough. I snack on almonds almost everyday. Any other ideas??

chacha09: I do get quite a bit of carbs. I absolutely love them although I have cleaned them up quite a bit. I'll try and see if adjusting my carb , protein, fat intake helps.

I'm 5 foot 2.5 inches. And CC recommended that I eat 1200 when I started here at 181 pounds. And it hasn't changed since then.

I set the alarm every single day. But I postpone it by an hour before I can actually drag myself out of bed. I know what being lazy feels like since I suffered from hypothyroidism for years before it was diagnosed and I would sleep whenever I got the chance. But now I only sleep at night.

That was an eye-opening article.Thanks!!!!

I have access to gym equipment both free weights and machines. However a few weeks ago, I injured my chest muscle... I don't know what it's called. I had pain on the left side of my chest and left arm. The doctor advised me to stop exercising (the elliptical even) and not to lift weights. I want to be sure before I do anything because I don't know want to injure myself so badly that I can't exercise at all.

That said, I'm going to take your advice and probably start really slow.Laughing

Before I ask for your help, I'd like to thank you for being so generous with your advice and time.


I'm 5'2 160 pounds, female. I am down from 181 pounds in 3 months. The site says I should eat 1200 calories. I am hypothyroid taking medication and the situation is under control.

What do you think my BMR is?

And how many calories should I be eating?

Reading this post really makes me sad. I weigh 160 (down from 180) and I still wear a size 14( a very loose 14 since I can't afford to buy a 12 yet). But I'm sure I would never fit into a 10.Frown

What are your waist and hip measurements??? I don't know what shape I am but

Thanks for the suggestions.

 

The potatoes weren't roasted together with the chicken. I had 2 1/2 cups of potatoes with 1/2 tbsp of butter(made 2 servings). And there was no visible fat on the potatoes once done, just a nice brown coat.

 

Sorry but this leads me to another question 2 1/2 cups of raw potatoes once roasted became 2 cups. Do I log 2 1/2 cups or 2?

I'm sorry if I appear obsessive but I really can't live without potatoes!!!!

This is the weirdest thing I've heard. I am Indian, brought up in India and this is our staple. It's pronounced exactly the way mentioned above. It's made with salt, water and rice only. But it's something we eat everyday for dinner and in older times before bread even for breakfast with an Indian pickle or a slice of mango.... yummy......

 

I'm so surprised China and India share this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Going home is what did it for me. I was going home to India after 17 months and I've never been away from home that long . I was so excited  about going to be able to spend Christmas with my family that I could hardly sit still on the long flight. When I arrived in India my brother who was picking me up did not recognize me as I got out of  the airport. That shocked me a bit. But when my parents saw me they too were a bit taken aback. And the final straw was all the people I met at parties expecting to see a new me because I was back from America and people here are believed to be very health conscious. They didn't bother hiding their sentiments and felt free to let me know that I look nice but...........

 

That was when I decided I will never let myself feel like that again. The next time I go back home I REFUSE TO BE OVERWEIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
