| Weight Loss | Is drinking too much coffee bad for my weight loss goals? | Apr 04 2008 03:42 (UTC) |
4 |
I used to drink black coffee when i started dieting but found that i hated the crash that hit me afterwards when i switched later in the day to skim milk or juice. I don't think you're hampering yourself too badly but the caffeine is acting like a sort of fake energy. the day you decide you don't want coffee in the morning, maybe you're in the mood for something else, your energy levels will just go haywire. I usually stick with herbal tea with a touch of honey or V8 juice, not the veggie kind the fruit juice, V8 Splash. It has a low amount of calories and keeps me running throughout the morning and i don't crash later. Most importantly listen to your body, if you think you're doing fine then you more than likely are. |

I just finished reading the entire Golden Compass trilogy, His Dark Materials. It was interesting to say the least. Its a great fantasy book even though I don't agree with the author's religious beliefs at all. I'm reading a book of plays by Aristophanes for my classical cultures class, and it's freakin hilarious. The Assemblywomen, Peace, and, Wealth are the plays I have read so far and they are great. The ancient Greeks liked their poop and sex jokes. lol. |

| Foods | Restaurant eating- salads are just getting boring. | Mar 04 2008 16:57 (UTC) |

I got tired of salads really quickly too. But sometimes i manage a salad with chicken or fish on it. Usually though I wind up going with a grilled salmon or even occasionally a 6 or 8oz filet mignon with steamed veggies and rice pilaf. I cut out almost all red meat out of my diet so the filet is good once in awhile. And I always order water with an orange slice, its way better than water with lemon. :) You sound like you're sticking to your guns when you go out to eat and thats a good thing! Great work. |

| The Lounge | Getting Married At 18...Why Is It Looked Down Upon? | Mar 04 2008 16:28 (UTC) |

I thought I was ready at 19 to marry someone i'd been with for a year, granted we were thinking years in advance but when you're 18-20 you choose differently. The most important thing for the two of you to realize is that it WILL NOT be easy. You might think it'll be smooth sailing but it really won't. You will have to know how to grow together because you will be going through all kinds of transitions in your 20's and especially you since you will be going to the air force. I have lots of friends who went into the military and have changed drastically during and after. It ends a lot of promising relationships because you grow up differently and at different rates. No matter what you think right now, you're not grown up. I don't mean that in a malicious way but being 20 I know i'm not even though I still act much older and am self suffiecient. Why not try living sperately for awhile and on your own. What if something happened to one of you, later in life? (god forbid) You would have absolutely no idea how to manage on your own. And if it was later in life you'd have kids to be strong for and support. You'd have to figure out yourself and your kids at the same time! Think of how insanely hard that would be. My advice, wait until you're done with the air force. If you're so much in love, whats another year? If you're sure your love will last then a year or two in the big picture isn't very long at all. and being with one person only, and never even dating someone else closes off your options long before they need to be. If he is the only man you've ever dated how do you know there's nothing better? If you can't look at someone else, how could you possibly know that he is right for you?
you don't have to agree, and i don't mean to get you angry but those are the concerns i would have if my 18 yr old daughter said she wanted to get married. |

| The Lounge | what is the appeal of being super skinny? | Mar 04 2008 16:11 (UTC) |

I don't think either of those girls looks "normal" normal sized is between an 8 or 12. Which is why when i go shopping for pants I can never find my size. They are all gone and the only ones left are 0-4 and theres a million of them on the rack.
There is however, still hope for the every-woman with a normal and healthy body.

| I find gum works wonders as well. But if that doesn't work I try brushing my teeth too, that helps a lot. I only allot once every couple of months for taco bell cravings. Its hard at first but it gets easier. I used to avoid driving by it. Also, I dunno if you sing or not but singing and dancing around my room gets me busy and keeps my mind occupied. i know its silly but it works, haha. | |||

| All that food looks great. The only thing I could even remotely be able to offer a suggestion for is to try and find almonds without salt added. But some people need more sodium in their diet than others. It just depends on your body and how it responds so if you find it works for you then don't change it! good work! | |||

| ugh, i totally understand the stress eating or emotional eating thing. i used to do it a lot and it was really damaging. the key for me is to just resist buying it. if it's not in my cabinet then i won't be able to eat it. I will instead grab a Tangelo....which is my new favorite fruit treat, sweet and tart. the only sweets i eat anymore are two pieces of dove dark choc. they are good for you in moderation and they are rich enough to keep my sweet tooth under control especially when i want to eat the whole bag. haha. i also burn off stress by going to the gym and getting on an elliptical for about 30 minutes. once im done i feel better and i feel back in control of myself. i hope this helped!! | |||

All of you who are balking at this concept of frying things are making me laugh. I go to the Indiana State Fair almost every year and you know what they fry...anything and everything. They fry Hostess snack cakes, that I have never tried...they fry oreos, bananas, ice cream, they even had fried pepsi last year (do not ask me how they pulled that one off) I have been to the South many many times for vacations and such, and i'm actually headed down to her neck of the woods for spring break this year and while some of the home cooking isnt so healthy for you most of it is not all bad. I do plan on visiting The Lady and Sons in Savannah when I get the chance to. She is an entertainer, and while she might go overboard some of the stuff she makes, especially the seafood recipes, I wouldn't mind eating. You could also doctor a few of her recipes pretty easily and end up with a healthier alternative that tastes pretty good i'll bet.
Don't hate Paula Deen! |

The key with the sugar is to not eat the processed sugars. Fruits that have good amount of sugar have simple sugars in them, which are easier for you body to break down and you dont hold onto anything bad in your system. I usually eat tangelos, kiwi, bananas, and red grapes. Tangelos are my newfound treat, i eat them all the time as a snack. They are tart and easy to take with you, I almost always have one in my backpack now. They are widely available, look for them next time you go to the store. i haven't been anywhere and NOT seen them. |

I'm so happy I found this thread!!! haha. I'm 5' 10" and right now i weigh about 185 which sounds really horrible but the weight is mostly sitting on my stomach. My goal weight is 160 or 150. My goal sounds a bit high I suppose but there are supermodels who weigh that much(Miss Tyra Banks for one) so i'm just going to play it by ear and see what looks and feels good on my body. Then we shall go from there. :) Since starting to eat better I feel great! I do need some help at the gym though, I'm totally clueless. I use an elliptical to tone my legs but I don't do treadmills. I ride horses once a week and that is a TOTAL BODY workout let me tell you. I really wanna know what to do to get my abs in shape. Any suggestions? |

| I go to Ball State University in Indiana. I hated my first semester but now at the end of my second year I couldn't imagine going anywhere else. The campus is awesome and the people are so wonderful. We all smile at each other on our ways to class and if you sit next to someone you don't know in one of the cafe's you will probably end up with a new friend. I have wanted to go here since i was about 13. I never applied anywhere else! Which I don't recommend, at least have a safety school, even if it's a community college and you have to stay at home. Remember, you can always transfer! | |||

| Weight Loss | Supper = Half of my daily intake ! | Feb 05 2008 21:35 (UTC) |

I'm on the same calorie intake you are. I try and spread my calorie intake out throughout the day. i usually shoot for 400 or so per meal because i also eat snacks, which usually consist of fruit or a small treat(like a small piece of choc.) if i'm feeling like i could use a little pick up.
Eating smaller meals does keep your metabolism higher. So even if you are losing weight no problem now, think of how much faster you could lose it if you switched over to smaller portions spread out throughout the day. It might be working well but think of how much better it could be in the long run. Eating smaller portions also helps your stomach adjust that way you have a lower tolerance for overindulging and it encourages you to not do that. I'm not an expert but this si what works for me and we're both on the same intake so i figured i'd stick my 2 cents in. :) |

| I have the same problem. I think mine is way too high(1900!!)...i adjusted it myself and i'm waiting to see the results. For me, and many others the key is to just listen to what your body says. It just takes some time I think. I'm going to wait a week, if i feel that i'm too tired or not getting enough calories i will up my intake again by 100 or so but right now it's just a matter of waiting. | |||
