| Foods | VitaMuffin calories accurate? | May 09 2008 22:02 (UTC) |

I know this thread is old, but that article wasn't even accurate. Those cookies clearly state 240-260 for one serving, which is 1/2 a cookie. Yes, they will be over 400 calories for a whole one, but that's what reading labels is about. (Yes, I shop at Whole Foods and have seen/bought Nana's cookies and yes, I read labels.) Don't believe everything you read. EDIT: the Good Housekeeping website also says that apples are "fattening". I rest my case. |

At this point, her BMI is around 23. A healthy range is anywhere from 19-25. I don't think encouraging dieting would be beneficial for her age, because, as you said, it could spiral into an ED. However, I feel that it might be good to talk about eating healthy in a general way (don't go into calories, etc) and maybe exercise with her or encourage her to do some more sports. I would just advise you not to treat it like a big deal, because since she's still growing, her weight will probably balance out in the end. |

| Weight Loss | What tea should I be drinking to AID in weight loss? | May 08 2008 02:33 (UTC) |

There are a lot of teas and drinks out there that claim to boost metabolism abd detox your body, but almost none of these statements have been evaluatued by the FDA. Plus, the ingredients in these concoctions could harm your body in the long run. I would stick with pure water, because it aids weight loss (it has no calories), revs your metabolism (being well hydrated helps you burn more calories) and cleanses your body. Plus, it has only one ingredient :) |

You're already borderline underweight, with a BMI of 18.9. 103 would put you in the 17's, which is...far too low. Unless you have an extremely small build, gaining weight (5-10 lbs.) would probably be beneficial to your health. |

| Young Calorie Counters | sedentary or light activity? | Mar 17 2008 00:30 (UTC) |

If you exercise every day, you're not sedentary... I personally go to school 5 days a week and haul my ass to the gym a bunch of times a week. But I guess it depends on how busy you are after school, etc. |

Well, if you've spent a lot of time in Orlando/the Bahamas, maybe Europe would be fun (unless you want to go somewhere in America). My family is going to London this summer because my uncle has always really wanted to go. My friend went to Paris during winter break and she said it was really cool. If you don't dig going to Europe, I second sirk9211's cruise idea. Cruises are fun b/c you can go to a bunch of places and there's a lot of stuff to do on the ship itself. Have fun! XD |

The "1800 calorie minimum" that some people are pushing absolutely does not work for everyone. You should eat the number of calories you're comfortable with as long as you're not in starvation mode. 1400 sounds good. Good luck! |

0_o mmmm, pie... Also, I <3 the ppk. Isa rocks! I've only made her Brooklyn Pad Thai and chocolate chip cookies for the holidays, though. Thanks for the recipe and the websites, zaff! Also, skinnyogi: That lasagna sounds gooood and less carby than ones w/ a ton of white pasta. I like tofu "ricotta" as well, adding a little basil brightens the flavor. I found some vegan soy cheese at Whole Foods, but didn't buy it cos it looked like rubber...is it any good? |

| Weight Loss | please help, i need some advice :S (from anorexic to obese?) | Feb 14 2008 02:43 (UTC) |

I agree. Your BMI is healthy (NOT "obese"). It's normal to gain weight after you've been restricting way too much, becuase your body is trying to get back to normal. You're not going to get fat, I promise. Just eat enough calories (ironically, eating too few calories could cause you to gain weight because of starvation mode) and exercise. However, eat back the calories you burn through exercise so you don't go back into starvation mode. :) good luck! |

So you can log your weight -- which allows you to do the following:
- Plot your weight curve
- Analyze the trend of your weight (see under Recent in the figure above)
- Determine the projected target date (see under Overall in the figure above)
