Is the container smaller?  I thought I remembered seeing two sizes...but I could have dreamed it!

I still take the Flinstones :)  I compared them to other mult-vitamins made for adults, and they basically are the same.  Can't really comment beyond the 'basic' multi-vitamin, but I'm sure there are plenty that contain additional folic acid (or you could take a separate pill for that!!).

I've never tried them (so perhaps I shouldn't comment, but I hope this is helpful) - I think they may have 'revamped' them after their initial release.

A lot of the reviews I saw from a year or so ago said they were basically inedible - at first, all the reviews were bad.  Then, about 6 months ago, they seemed to have a new marketing drive (they were giving them away for free), and a lot of the reviews were positive.

I keep thinking I'm going to try them, but they aren't free anymore :).

Lol...that reminds me of an episode of the "Golden Girls" (if anyone still watches reruns!), where Rose made some dish that tasted wonderful, but they had to hold their noses to eat it...

Broccolli comes to mind for me, but I realize a lot of people may not agree with me on that one! :)

Recipes Any good recipes for vanilla cake with vanilla icing? Jun 15 2009
18:54 (UTC)

Calories per slice would depend on the cake mix you use....diet soda shouldn't add any (or I suppose it could be 10-15, since some diet brands do admit to a few calories) and 2 egg whites shouldn't be more than 25 or so...

So you spread approximately 25-40 calories over the number of servings the cake box tells you, and that should tell you how many calories per slice. (or you can multiply the per serving calories on the box times the number of servings, add the calories from the soda and egg whites, and divide that final number by the number of servings you create).

Recipes Best Frosting For Experimental Cake...? Jun 14 2009

Original Post by lunaropal:

I am baking a "S'more Cake" tomorrow, partly for my mom. I am going to be using graham cracker crumbs as a base, then chocolate cake mix (lowest-cal, healthiest I could find) for the actual cake. I had planned on using marshmallow frosting but couldn't find any so I got stuff to test out. However, vanilla frosting, marshmallow creme, etc. seems rather rich and I'm sure it is pretty unhealthy.

What would be a good alternative that would still make the cake seem s'more-like? I was thinking maybe using some low-fat or low-sugar/-cal whipped cream?

I think some people enjoy cool whip - plain, or mixed with pudding - as frosting.  Not sure if that helps!

Great news - glad to hear that you'll still be able to get your muffins!

You know, I've ordered from Linda's as well - and I think their stock is actually from Chatila's (which is why I started ordering directly from the baker - cheaper and fresher; though Linda's was nice to try things out 'one at a time').

I've been searching for a new 'sugar free' bakery, and will definitely post if I find one!  Most I've found online are simply resellers for Chatila's - there is one company called a Bountiful Harvest, but I can't seem to get NI from them.

Just to follow-up: I spoke to someone at the bakery today, and they are switching to agave-sweetened products for all items (even my donuts - the only reason they haven't switched them so far is because they are looking for a chocolate producer that doesn't use malitol).

I'm bummed -  but MAYBE the new donuts will be better!

I order their donuts, but I don't think they've switched on those...yet!  Honestly, I'm not entirely sure I've ever really trusted their nutritional information (years ago, I believe it was shown to be very inaccurate), but I must agree - if they do switch the donuts, I will stop ordering.

Recipes Baking with protein powder? Mar 27 2009

You might want to check the nutrition forums over at bodybuilding.com.  I used to frequent the boards there, and this was quite the hot topic a few months ago.  I believe the overall consensus was that cooking protein powder 'denatures' the protein, but so do processes like digestion.  In the end, it didn't impact the ability of your body to use the protein as a protein.

Honestly, I make a 'one minute muffin' with protein powder all of the time, and am quite fond of it!

I figured this out for regular M&Ms years back - can't imagine the crispy are too different (though I have been wrong before!) - for the regular, it worked out to about 4 calories per M&M.  I figured it out the way Chrissy suggested :)

ME!!  Can't stand the place.  Am fortunate enough that I can pay slightly more to shop elsewhere.  Would probably choose mild starvation over having to go into a Walmart.

Foods Only 8 Frozen Yogurt...Cup/Oz/Gram conversion Feb 12 2009

I'd suggest going by weight - ice cream/yogurt is impacted by 'overrun', which I believe has to do with the amount of air pumped into the mixture (that can vary from store to store).  It could cause 40g of yogurt to be significantly more or less than what would measure as a 1/2 cup in volume.

I just had 80g of the Snickers Only 8 :)

Foods Walden Farms Peanut Butter? Jan 20 2009

I've purchased quite a few jars of the peanut spread - they are consistently inconsistent!  One jar tastes great, the next, inedible.  I have taken them up on their money-back guarantee on several!

I do enjoy the marshmallow and chocolate dips, though again - the flavor seems to vary.

I haven't tried their shakes, but love their bars - those are 20g (for the smaller size) with 180-200 calories.  May have to give the shakes a try!

Foods iron supplement??????!!!! Nov 07 2008

Yes - please be careful with iron!  You can be anemic, but in conjnunction with that you could also (potentially) have a condition called hemachromotosis.  Albeit somewhat rare, that causes your liver to essentially store ALL of the iron you intake - which is toxic and can cause severe problems.

Yes, I sort of agree - it's been YEARS since I tried No Pudge, and I wasn't impressed then - but I thought about giving them a try again recently, until I noted the sugar.

I'm thinking of trying some of the Southaven Farms mixes instead, but haven't gone there yet!

I do this - it's not what I would claim as a brownie, but it is something different with protein.  For me, the outcome varies significantly depending on the amount of liquid I use.  Also, I wasn't able to get it to work with casein protein powder (though it may have been the brand).  Good luck!!

All protein is denatured when heated and during digestion' - this is what I've heard, and I've heard that heating it does affect 'bioavailability', but I've never seen a clear explanation of what that means (if anything!).

Interesting!  Just in case you're mildly OCD (like me!) - I weighed my Joseph's pitas, and found them all to be about 1.5 times the weight for the NI...so not a huge number of calories, but still more than they listed (at least in the packs I received!).

Enjoy, though!!

I used to get it at a local shop about 10 years ago - as I recall, it was 10 calories/ounce then - but that's been quite a while!!  I recall having trouble finding information on it, as well - a bit surprised it is still around!  Wink

If you're looking for the real thing, you'll be disappointed, but I tend to like their products (over not having anything!).  The chocolate syrup is probably an easier adjustment than the dip, but I like both.  A lot of people dislike them intensely, though!

Foods Anyone else LOVE wow cow?? Aug 15 2008

Now that I'm a certified compulsive weigher :0)....

I used to eat this quite frequently - it's actually not available where I live now, but I would definitely suggest weighing out the serving size occassionally, just to see what the overrun is on your particular shop.  I probably gained 5 pounds eating it (but would eat it by the pint!).

I do miss the stuff!

Foods Low Carb Pita Aug 15 2008

I just received these from netrition!  I like them, but since I decided to be a little OCD and weighed them, I found that they weigh a bit more than the serving size on the package.  Not a tremendous calorie amount overall, but somewhat proportionally.

Of course, I quit eating the Dannon yogurt over 20 calories (those 20 calories a few times a day just weren't worth it!).
