| Weight Loss | What is too much sodium? | Jul 06 2008 19:32 (UTC) |

Exactly...water helps "wash" the sodium out of your body- so when you don't use it to metabolize or sweat- the water will help carry it out through urine. |

The recommended daily intake for sodium is not to exceed 2400ml per day based on an average 2000 calorie diet as stated by netrition.com:o) |

Pishhh...Forget Comfort...you all KNOW it's about Twitch!!!:o) Don't know ANYTHING about dancing- but I did do gymnastics for years and a lot of their moves come from floor routines- especially the contemporary ones. And, yes, of course my body was void of fat- but I was 9...so...LOL |

For runners...potassium is just as important as sodium. It may be that your salt craving is really a potassium deficiency. Potassium and sodium work hand in hand. Have you tried any kind of supplement? I take potassium for muscle cramps...really helped me. You may also consider switching from table salt to sea salt (it contains more nutrients) |

Go to the local Good Will or Salvation Army and pick up a couple (VERY CHEAP) sets of clothing just to last you the next couple of months. Or, if you are going to continue to lose weight- then your current cold weather clothes can be altered into warm weather clothes now (Cut-offs etc.) - they won't fit you next winter anyway! CONGRATS! |

Will you be having the regular?- let me double check- egg white omelette, all veggie, sub cheese for salsa, low fat sour cream...wheat toast- dry...sub potato for fresh fruit...and ice water with lemon?" LOL Needless to say...we tip her very well:o) |

| Weight Loss | What's your weight loss success story to date? | May 02 2008 19:32 (UTC) |

FANTASTIC IDEA! Start Date: February 6, 2008 Start Weight: 300 Current Weight: 269.6 # of weeks of healthy lifestyle: 13 # of lbs lost since start: 32 Goal Weight: unknown (I'm gonna see what happens at 160) Tip: Recognize that this whole things is going to be the way you live the rest of your life. I'm 23 so, God willing, that will be a very long time. There will be Birthdays and Holidays...don't deprive yourself of the goodies- just make sure you have an occation to spluge instead of just a craving to satisfy. Then, get right back on the Wagon the next day. Think of is as building your will power. Tip#2: Keep healthy snacks available at all times...a granola bar in the car, single serving bags of trail mix in your desk or your purse. Having these options available at all times and within arms reach of where ever I am keeps me from making poor choices when I'm hungry or even just bored. Someone brings in cupcakes to the office and you don't think you can say no, stuff your face with trail mix and move on. You're hungry in the car on the way home and are coming up on your favorite fast food restaurant- shove a granola bar in your mouth and keep driving. SERIOUSLY- if I can do this ANYONE can...even you! So keep your head up and "Spread the health":o) |

| Weight Loss | Should I be concerned? | May 02 2008 19:15 (UTC) |

I suppose that being so heavy for such an extended amount of time could contribute to my joint pain- that would make sense. It just seemed to me that I'd have been feeling it when I was at my heaviest 3 months ago instead of feeling it after losing 29-32lbs. I've been experiencing these symptoms for a little over a week I'd say. Thanks for the suggestions about alternative, low impact exercises, maybe I'll try that for a couple of days and see if anything improves. |

OH YEAH! I have NO complaints about the weight loss! Honestly, my first 25lbs felt like the biggest accomplishment I'd made since graduating High School! I'm also down from a 26/28 to a 22/24 which is THRILLING! When I get to an 18/20 I'm going to buy new clothes- I havn't been in the "teen" sizes since 8th GRADE! I'm SUPER excited about losing the weight...just a little concerned about the random pain...? |

I've told a few select people that I'm trying to lose weight. I don't hide it, and I have had people ask me questions at work when they notice I started bringing lunch from home instead of eating out or raiding the vending machines- I don't mind telling people that I'm trying to lose weight- but I've told VERY few people that my motivation for all of this is so that I can get pregnant in a year or two and have a healthy pregnancy. |

I give away extra servings. I make a great vegetable lasagna too, one recipe makes 8 to 10 servings. My parents love it, my boss craves it, the next door neighbors are Army boys away from home- so they love home cooked left overs. Sometimes I put left overs in the fridge at work and lable it "First Come First Serve." It brightens peoples to get an unexpected, home-cooked meal- and it brightens my day knowing I've "Spread the Health" :o) |

You guys really are the best. I've taken two days off of counting and now I've planned my menu for a week at between 1650 and 1700 calories. Hopefully with my menu written in the kitchen already set, I won't be tempted to cut corners. I am a little bit nervous about getting too full to finish, but I think I'm just going to eat all the way through the day instead of sticking to meal times. Thank you so much for all your help- and if you have more advice, I've tagged this forum and will continue to check it. Thanks again! |

Thank you so much for all your help. I think secretly I knew I wasn't eating enough- but once I started losing I was feeling so much leaner and with so much more energy. I think I got caught up in that feeling and in knowing that i was eating balanced that I got so stuck in the mentality that I kept finding lower and lower calorie food to consume and fill up on. I'm going to pull up my logs from February (when I was eating more AND losing more) and try to recreate that. I've been talking to my husband about it today and we've both agreed that I'm going to give myself two days without counting and then start over. Giving myself a plan of action that way I think will boost my motivation and get me out of this rut that's gotten me a bit depressed this last week. I tend to be an all or nothing kind of person- so maybe i just need to give myself a day every month to eat what I want and then "start over" so that I don't go too far... Again, thanks so much, I really appreciate it. |

I lost very quickly in the beginning. I started CC on February 6th of this year. Currently, I've lost 21lbs. But in the past week and a half I've been hovering between 279 and 281. Could you tell me more about this BMR thing. I've read a bit about it- but maybe I don't understand the significance. I do eat veggies, but I really think is the whole grains that are making me feel so heavy. Do you suggest that I go back up to between 1500 and 1700 calories? I guess I wouldn't mind doing that, but it would mean eating foods that I know aren't perfectly nutritious or clean. But, I guess the point is to lose weight...and apparently, I'm not doing that as effectively as I was before. |

I'm a house wife. Most of what I do during the day involves chores. I'm not exercising at this point because I was already concerned that I'm at more than a 1000 calorie deficit. (I burn around 2460 calories a day- and am only eating around 1340 on good days.) I was going to the gym about every other day and walking off 150 calories at a time (apx. 20 minutes at 3mph and at a level 1 incline.) Perhaps you're right and I should try to eat more. I'm eating around four meals a day as it is. I HATE that full bloated feeling after eating too much. It makes me feel heavy, lazy and grumpy. I do eat salads...but they are small (1 cup shreded iceburg lettuce and about 8 baby carrots with 1 tablespoon light ranch.) I could double it- but then I'd have to double the dressing which would put the sodium content at 200mg from one salad's dressing...that kinda freaks me out. Maybe I need to relax a bit and worry more about getting enough calories than making sure they're perfectly balanced. *sigh* |

| Weight Loss | Hurt by Husband's Honesty | Mar 16 2008 16:13 (UTC) |

Well, I can imagine that hearing that from someone who never expected to hear it from REALLY hurt your feelings. But, on the other hand, it shows that you have a wonderfully open husband who is willing to be honest with you about how he's feeling regarding your half of the relationship. Yes, I do think it's important to lose weight for yourself- but you are half of a team...that means that if he feels that you need to lose some weight- then you're obligated as his wife to do it. It doesn't sound like he loves you any less- in fact, it sounds like he's willing to be as supportive as you need him to be. Try to see it as a positive...and as a motivation. We're ALL pulling for you- but when you said "I do" it made your husband and family your first priority and it sounds like you're not "pulling your weight" right now. You can do this- and you deserve every pound lost. Be amazing. Hope that wasn't too harsh... I've never been good at eloquence. Find the positive |

I usually crave salty instead of sweet...so I buy the mini rice cake bites in Ranch flavor- a stack of 10 is only 70 calories and only 220mg sodium...which is perfect for a snack in my daily diet. |

| Weight Loss | oatmeal or whole wheat bread? | Mar 12 2008 02:46 (UTC) |

Well, it is in my experience that oatmeal is lower in sodium than whole wheat bread. I'm very sensitive to sodium- so that's the better choice for me...I can't eat it plain though- yuck! I've found that the "Rollin Oats" brand carries flavored oat meal that I really love. Good Luck :0) |

| Weight Loss | how do you stay motivated/re-motivate yourself? | Mar 11 2008 02:58 (UTC) |
7 |
| For me, I need a long term motivation. If you like, you can read my journal entitled "Operation: Nova" which explains what my motivation is. I can't tell myself "I'm doing this to get healthy" because honestly, despite the fact that I'm overweight- I already am healthy. I know that as I get older that will change- but...that's YEARS away. I can't make a goal of being a certain weight or being able to fit into a certain size because overall, I'm not all that disappointed with the way I look. My motivation is that once I lose some of this weight I will be able to do something I can't do the way I am now. Some people say that they want to be able to fit into the rides at the fair- that's more my style. You've just got to find something that you want to accomplish...and that you'll only be able to do once you lose the weight. Hope that makes sense...:o) | |||

| He's your ex for a reason...don't go back- you'll just have to break up with him again. I know that before I was married I had a "three strikes and you're out" rule like in baseball. If we dated 3 times and I didn't feel like he was marriage material- then I was done and there was no going back! Be the strong, intellegent, capable woman I'm sure you are...let this dumba** go and move on to the next one! LOL | |||

Well, I am in my 20's...but I think I hit the 120lbs in like 5th grade.LOL Weight has ALWAYS been an issue for me and I TOTALLY understand what you're saying about how one "portion control bite" can lead to eating the whole bowl. I also agree agree with you about how if I'm eating healthy for awhile, I tend to crave those "not-so-healthy" foods less...however...for some reason- BALL PARK HOT DOGS drive me crazy. I'm like a cat in heat! It's so rediculous...my husband will make one for himself and I can smell it ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE HOUSE and before my brain can even realize what I'm doing, my feet are taking a bee-line to the source. I think it's an mental illness LOL |
