I have the same problem.  I'm wondering if anyone knows any good "cleavage" bras that don't have underwires?  I have implants and can't wear underwires.

Also I wanted to mention to the poster that was talking about high-end bras having more flattering sizes.  I found that to be true when I was measured for and bought a Wacoal bra. I don't remember the size but it was a smaller band than I usually wear.

I feel most comfortable in a 36C.

Real French croissants -- particularly almond or chocolate!  Cry

That  (and ice cream) put 20 pounds back on me after I lost it a few years ago.  Funny, though, after just a few days of saying no to both, I lost the craving for them and have lost 11 pounds by focusing on eating healthy foods and doing sweets and fat in extreme moderation!

Cinnabon mini-buns - more than one at a time.  The mini-bons are better than the big ones because they're just the middles.

A cheeseburger from In-N-Out or Carl's Jr.

A chicken/bacon ranch sandwich from Carl's Jr.

Chocolate malts.

Sara Lee anything, especially strawberry cheesecake.

Yum!  Don't crave, can walk past them, but boy were they good in the days I liked anything big and full of fat and sugar!

I agree about Lucky jeans. They are so comfortable.  I got my first pair from Costco - they were about $40 and then I paid a tailor $5 to shorten them and they look great!

I've had a really hard week for some reason as well.  I ran a marathon on Sunday and for two days afterward did very well.  Then Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, I binged on different things - Wednesday it was chocolate and two red velvet cupcakes I made for a club meeting.  Thursday it was tiramisu and a hamburger and fries.  Today it was Chinese food (the fried kind) at lunch to the tune of about 1000 calories for that alone, and chocolate again!  I feel as though I undid any weight loss effects the marathon may have had.

Today I was trying on dresses as I have a wedding to go to tomorrow and it was very sad. I did not like the body in the dressing room mirror at all.

So tomorrow will be back to Day One without binging.

Thank you for the encouragement.  I did finish the marathon!1  Woo hoo!  CoolI was very, very slow, especially the last 10 miles, but the weather was hot with no cloud cover.  Probably about 9,000 people who started didn't finish (for which I don't blame them - no sense dying of heatstroke!)  I kept hydrated - almost too much so, because I kept having to use those icky porta-potties and lost probably about 45 minutes waiting in potty lines.  I also ate everything handed to me - oranges, bananas, pretzels - to stay fueled.

Today I'm a tiny bit stiff, but absolutely no pain, no sunburn (I remembered the sunscreen) and only two minor blisters.  Each marathon, I'm learning about things like that.

I would recommend to anyone thinking of doing a marathon, to do it.  I've been training alone, but there are many excellent training clubs out there, some of which (like Team in Training for lymphoma/leukemia) raise money for fantastic causes.  I'm going to join a club or team for my next run, because, except for my first marathon which I finished in a bit over 5 hours, I've been getting slower and slower and there's no good reason for that except not quite enough self-motivation to train well.

Oh, and by the way, I'm 46 so age isn't a factor.  Nor is having a few pounds to lose -- there were many women heavier than I who finished as well (note: please check with your doctor first!)

I always put three different fruits in my cereal in the morning so I have 3 right there -- usually banana, apple, pear, nectarine, frozen blueberries, or whatever other fruits are in season - that gets a few servings out of the way right there!

I'll always think of myself as a Canadian first even though I've lived in Southern California the bigger half of my life, because I was born in TO and grew up outside of Streetsville but went to school in Oakville (bussed in 30 miles, lots of snow days because Mom didn't drive and Dad was at work in the city!)

Anyone else from Streetsville or Oakville or in between?

Great Expectations -- before the Internet really got going (1997).  Back then, you recorded a VHS video of yourself and so did the men, and you filled out a profile form on paper, which went into a big binder full of women your age, and the men did the same.  You then went in and looked at the men's binders and the men looked at yours.  If you liked what you read, you watched the videos.   The whole thing cost, I believe, $3000 (ouch).  If you liked the video, you emailed the guy and asked him to meet you somewhere.  The men did the same.

I met a few nice men that I picked, dated for a few months, and then decided to stop for a while after breaking up with one I fell in love with who didn't feel the same way.  For a long time, nobody picked me (which was kind of upsetting...)

After I unofficially quit dating and instead got a dog to keep me company, I got an email from a man who'd seen my profile and video.  We met in a bookstore cafe (which is where we usually start the story when people ask how we met and we don't want to explain Great Expectations) and the rest, as they say, is history.  We were best friends even after breaking up after dating for a year, and then in 2003, we started dating again, got engaged, and were married June 18, 2004.

I haven't tried these myself but if you have Trader Joe's near you, they just developed a flat pretzel that's basically all crust and is low in fat and calories and meant for dipping.  There's another company, Stacy's I think it is, that makes something similar - a pretzel chip.  If you can't find that, then pita chips are always good for dipping, especially if you make them yourself from whole wheat pita bread.  You can also dip low-fat Wheat Thins or whole grain Kashi or other whole grain crackers.

What a fantastic thread!

I loved this one from an earlier post:

Munster or Swiss cheese sandwiches with mayo on pumpernickel bread.  For me,  Havarti cheese on buttered pumpernickel!

In addition, just about any dessert but especially:

chocolate brownies (still warm from the oven)

pumpkin pie with cool whip

chocolate pudding with cool whip

tiramisu!

black forest cake

cherry cheesecake

Polish donuts ("ponchki")

rum torte

strawberry shortcake

cinnabon

chocolate malts

got to stop... mouth is watering!

Weight Loss My husband is NOT on my side!!! Grrrrr (RANT) Feb 22 2008

I have exactly the same problem, but with a different antagonist.

My problem isn't so much my husband as my service club.  We meet twice a month and the second meeting is always catered.  (The first is brown bagged, so no problem).  The food ranges from so-so to decent, but no matter what it is, I eat too much of it and always have dessert.  Now, mind you, these are all women, most of whom are overweight.  It's like when we're together, we all give each other permission to overeat.  Salads are usually served, but I still always have the unhealthy stuff  as well or instead, and, always, always have the dessert.  Part of it might be that I'm not as heavy as some of the other members, who think of me as one of the "thin" ones, so I feel it's up to me to NOT look like I'm on a diet so they don't feel bad... weird, huh?

On the other hand, it always annoys me a little bit when someone on Jenny Craig or another structured weight loss plan brings her own food to one of our catered dinners.

Happy medium?

For you, Haley, I agree with the other posters that you and hubby should talk... he's probably not sabotaging you on purpose but just likes that pub environment once a week.  I think that saving a few calories for a light beer and a few wings (if you can stop at one or two) and eating healthy the rest of the day is the way to go.

Hi Karen,

I've gained and lost the same 20-25 pounds 3 or 4 times in my life.  Each time I lost them, it really wasn't from "dieting" but because something else in my life was going on to either change my eating habits for the healthier (two times) or keep me from eating altogether (unhealthy, twice).  I agree that "diets" in the typical meaning don't work, at least not for me.  Personally, I have had to focus on other motivations than losing weight, such as other interests that gave me no time to overeat.  Right now I am just trying to eat better more of the time.

How old are you?  What are your health goals?

I'm 46 and enjoy running marathons (4 so far, another one coming up March 2) but they're no fun when I'm at the higher end of my weight range as I am currently.  I want to cut down the mindless eating, cut back sweets, and trim down from 143 to 125 so that I can run better.

A double chocolate rice krispie treat is only about 170 or 180 calories and 7 fat grams - a brownie the same size is at least twice that.  If you have to choose, go for the rice krispie treat.

I think whatever our religious views are now that we are adults, those of us who feel guilty after eating too much were exposed to the "gluttony is a sin" line of thinking (and there is merit to it as moderation in anything is healthier for you mentally, physically and spiritually).  Or if we didn't hear that one from grown-ups, we certainly heard the other one, "Clean your plate -- think of the starving children in [third world country]!"  Guilt, I think, is supposed to be a classic form of motivation but it backfires when we're adults as when we feel guilty, we feel badly about ourselves and give ourselves permission to be even more self-destructive.

I think we somehow have to teach ourselves to not give in to the guilt as it's not rational or healthy, and to simply move on.

My problem seems to be the business and social dinners out where I eat whatever is served me, including dessert -- and then I have a second helping!  Happened last night after a decent breakfast and lunch and moderate snacking.  I'm not talking about restaurants so much as things like meetings with food.  It's like my brain goes on autopilot and I just eat mindlessly.

So I'll have to call this Day 1 again.

Weight Loss Carbs in Fruit?? Feb 18 2008
20:15 (UTC)
I don't know so much about the science of it, but in my experience, nobody ever became obese eating too many apples or blueberries or strawberries, which are, by the way, very high in water as well.   I think the fiber, vitamins like C, antioxidants, energy and other benefits of eating natural, unprocessed (preferably organic with the peel) fruit would outweigh any of the "high carb" issues anyway.

Great job!

I'm up to Day 3 myself - so I'm right behind you!!  Friday was the last one - it was my husband's birthday and after splitting a Reuben sandwich with him at a deli (ouch!), we came back and baked him a German chocolate cake.  I didn't have any at first, but after he was asleep I "cleaned up" the kitchen, eating two big slices of cake in the process!

Saturday was decent and yesterday was downright respectable, so here I am on Day 3!
