m0m6,

Yeah, pumping really complicates things, or it did for me. I think it was because my office was mostly male and I was the only mama in the office. The six week TDY must have affected it ... they're usually good with breaks, but not 20 minutes at a time! :/ I think the fact that I didn't pump during the day and dropped calories abruptly and was working  out all played a part in my milk. This time, since I got out, there's a little less pressure to lose.

Thanks, bikinibound! :) I was wondering if you'd want to adjust fir the feedings amount. My son seems to be going through a growth spurt again. How much do you fluctuate your calories for the feedings?

AHAZEL1980,
Thank you for giving me an idea of when you began and what your intake looks like. That's really helpful. It looks like I'll have to aim fo something similar to yours. I so want to begin reducing calories, but my son will only be 7 weeks tomorrow, so I'm gonna wait a little longer. My postpartum appt isn't until next week either, so I wanna make sure things are fine first anyway.
Anyway, thank you and good luck!

Shauna,

Thanks fo the response. 1700 seems soo low, esp when it's recommending 1000+ more for me. The low caloric intake hasn't affected your milk at all? I'm thinking i shouldn't dip that low until I'm sure my milk supply is strong. Does any one know when it's safe to start dieting? My son is about 5.5 weeks old. I need to kick start my working out again. While I was prego, I worked out for an hour on my ellipitical everyday until the nineth month. I haven't been on it since May-ish!! The bugs are really bad outdoors, so walks are annoying. Anyway ... I think I need to incorperate working out in my life and slowly decreasing my calories ... do you think that's the safest way not to harm milk??

Thanks and good luck!! :)

Hello!! I'm a proud mama of a 4.5 year old son and I have a baby boy who is 5 weeks old. I've not started really dieting or working out, as I want to get the go ahead from the doctor first. Unfortunately they couldn't get me in until 8 weeks PP, so I'm growing impatient!! :/ (I'm still gonna wait for the go ahead though, but don't see why i can't watch my calories ... i just won't be running anytime soon :(). I gained 70 pounds the first time around and lost it after 10 months to a year. This time I gained 30-33 lbs. My weight fluctuates.I'm hoping it comes off soon and fast.

Anyway, my name is Brandy. I'm 25 years old and 5'10"

I was about 147 before pregnancy.

Weighed about 180 when I had my son.

Now I weigh between 157-160. It's been there since 3 weeks PP :(

I'd like to get to my pre-prego weight at least and then I'll go from there. A long as I fit in my size 5s I don't really care!! Ha!

I don't understand how calories work at all. I am really worried about my milk drying up again. With my first son, I was still in the Air Force, and it dried up quickly because i was trying to diet to pass my PT test, was too shy to pump at work, etc. Anyway ... are you supposed to take your Burn Meter and add the 200-500 calories for breastfeeding?? That would be 3,000+ calories for me! Yikes! I try to get in 2000-2300 a day. It has been my goal since i was prego and now i've jus maintained my weight. What should I aim for?? Any help would be awwwwesome!! :) Also ... when is a good time to start dieting while EBFing? I, again, don't want to sacrifice my milk. I'd prefer to have to buy new jeans now than sacrifice lil man's milk!

Thanks fr any/all help!! I look forward to weighing in and losing weight with you girls!!

Pregnancy & Parenting How to beat the "baby blues"? Mar 14 2008

I didn't read everyones responses, but one thing I have learned from my first pregnancy and this one, is that planning fr a baby sounds great, but there is no such thing as a "perfect" time. With my son, I wanted to get my education done first, but fate took control and I ended up being prego. Same with this one. My point is, Waiting to do this or that is great. It's responsible. It's sensible. It's the right thing to do. But I've yet to meet anyone who actually waited to finish those tasks because honestly ... there's always going to be something you would like to do or need to do. It sounds like you guys are on the right track ... that's something!! :) I'd talk to your husband and weigh the options!!

Hi!! Wow ... we have a lot in common, aside from I have a boy who just turned four and am expecting a boy again. I gained 70 with mine the last time around also and lost it, but hated all the work it took to do so. I am 5'10" and never have to watch what I eat, until I'm pregnant apparently, and then everything sticks. :( I've gained 20 lbs already!! And am 6 months prego ... due June 25. How much have you gained so far? Well, congrats!

Hi! I'm 21 weeks preggo. I was just curious to see how my calorie intake was and made this to see. I went to the doctor on Monday, and found out they think I've gained 20 lbs. I think 15 lbs is more likely (since I had to drink and hold my fluids for my ultrasound). Plus I forgot to take my shoes off, which I usually do. Anyway, I'm a little bummed out, but at the same time think I'm doing well for someone who is preggo and who quit smoking because of it. This is my second pregnancy. Last time I gained a ton and am paranoid about repeating history. Fortunately my doctor isn't concerned yet. ANyway, congrats to everyone. Maybe I'll actually check this site, too. I'm also on babygaga.com and myspace.
