Well, not the best first week, but I made an attempt. I fell victim to a couple of giant M & M sugar cookies. Besides that, I did pretty good but didn't see much on the scale. This time around I am taking a different approach than all of my diets in the past. When I make a mistake or go off of my plan, I will try hard the next day to get on track....I will try every day. I have a history of messing up and then giving up...for maybe months. Not this time. If I do nothing else, I will try every day. I am happy to say that even with not doing much to watch my diet in months, I only went up 5.5 pounds. Not too bad for months. I know I can do better. Thanks for the welcome back. Wow...I haven't been on this site or forum for months. Want to guess why I am back? Hmmm....weight creeping up and summer is over. Time to get serious again. Can someone remind me what day weigh in is. I am glad to see some of the same people are still here and working toward their goals. It motivates me |

Definately let us know about the cleanse. I have heard mixed reviews, but don't know of anyone who has actually tried it. |

I know this post is a little late, but I still haven't weighed myself. I figured it would be mental torture to see what I had done. Thought it would just be better to wait a week and hope I balance out. My best friend turned 40 on Thursday and it was a week of festivities. I ate and drank too many calories to have any hope of a loss. I will weigh in next week. Sorry to hear about the struggles. I think it is a definate factor in my weight struggles...the more stress the harder it is. I will keep you in my prayers too... |

No one likes to plateau, but 1 - 2 pounds a week is supposed to be healthy...right. Also, if I am not gaining, I am doing better than most of last year. I am more concerned there are really no knew logs to read. They inspire me, so I am surprised no one is writing. |

OK...maybe I am crazy, but I love logging my food. I keep a little notepad in my purse to write things down if I won't be by the computer for awhile. If I log my food, I lose weight. If I don't, I don't....so it is a good thing for me. WARNING: THIS WARNING IS FOR ALL OF MY FORUM FRIENDS...DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT ORDER CHILI CHEESE FRIES FROM CARL'S JR. I HAD NOT CONSUMED VERY MANY CALORIES FOR THE DAY, SO I GOT SOME CHILI CHEESE FRIES ON A CRAVING...BIG MISTAKE. 920 CALORIES!!! YIKES...AND THEY WEREN'T EVEN GOOD. Tammie |

Thanks for the tips on my cardio. What I have been doing is usually 45 minutes of a moderate workout 2-3 times per week and than at least 1-2 times each week I do a high cardio workout for about 25 minutes. I read somewhere that it keeps your body guessing and you get different things from each. I have been told to vary my calories too...eat about 500 calories more than usual every 4-5 days (this happens naturally for me). I guess we don't want our bodies to get used to anything in particular or we will stall? Not sure if it is true, but I am trying it for now. I will try to start working in some elliptical and treadmill, but will just start slow...I have to. Good news on my weigh in, I am back down to the weight I was when I started going off track....so, I really have maintained for the last month. Much better than a gain. Omagraf - Sandy 157 (3 lbs down!) Cbear ~Claire 262 ~no change tsjej - Terry 236 (4 down) 1lb to half way! mcs1229 - Marie 214 -1lb (that's a total of -40 loss) cynthb - Cynthia 176.8 (up 0.8) Someday this'll pay off *grin* tamcc72768 - Tammie 180.4 (total lost is 19 pounds) |

Any advice on cardio? I have been doing the stationary bike due to a bulging disk in my back. It is finally getting better, but I feel like I am going to die when I get on the treadmill or eliptical....it seems so much harder. Is there a benefit to doing this type of cardio vs. the bike? Any ideas? |

Good morning - do you guys still remember me? It is funny, the last thing I wrote a few weeks ago was for words of encouragement...then I didn't even read the replies. For those of you who replied...thank you! I haven't been on the site...watching my food...exercising...or anything else I was doing to lose weight. I had some major stresses at work and with my 14 year old stepson...so it was a good excuse to be an idiot. The fallout of my actions puts me back at 184. Good news it, that is only a couple of pounds to have gained. I still have until Friday to knock it back a little. I was looking at pictures from 8 years ago this weekend and almost cried. I miss that girl...she smiled a lot and felt comfortable in her own skin. I want to be her again... Tammie |

Original Post by abwy:
I don't know how much help I will be since I don't eat as healthy as I should, but if you live a crazy life and are constantly on the run, this might fit for you. Breakfast - English Muffin w/slice of American Cheese 320 Lunch - Chicken/Rice/Veggies 450 Dinner - Cheerios/Milk 300 Snacks - Applesauce 50 Simply Naked Pita Chips 140 Total: 1240 Again, not a lot of prep time, not enough fruits and veggies, but it is a typical day for me. One a personal note, any words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated. I feel like I am losing the motivation. I am losing some of my drive to keep on track and could use some support. That is why we are here, right?

Good news - I am down .8 of a pound. I was hoping for more, but this just shows that effort = results (at least in my case). Only went to the gym 2 times this week, had the "bear claw" incident, didn't drink enough water and ate french fries 2 x this week...(a big no no for me...french fries are a slipperly slope to my old eating habits). Although any loss is a good loss, I hope to ramp it up to 2 pounds next week. That is my goal...8-10 pds a month. I leave for Hawaii on May 11th and would like to be down about 20 more pounds. That means I need at least 2 pounds a week to get close. Again, I can say this for me: Effort = Results - I need to remember that. omagraf - 163 Sandy (no change, no gain) tsjej - 252 Terry (-4 loss. I'll take it.) msc1229 - 218 Marie (-2) snail's pace cbear - 276- (2lbs this week,)13 since i started last month) cynthb - 176 Cynthia (up 4 :( ) abwy- 149 Hope (no change) tamcc72768 - 180.4 Tammie (down .8, a loss is a loss) |

Thank you all for letting me know I am not the only one who weighs obsessively. It is always nice to know you have other people that suffer from the same "issues" I do. One success...I haven't been on the scale since the "bear claw day". I am trying hard not to look until Friday...it will be better for me. cynthb...as far as your calories, what you are doing is right on. Try it for a week and see what happens. My experience is that the calculator is a place to start...then you need to see what your body responds to. As you lose weight, you will need to continue to reduce your calories to see results. The less you weigh, the less calories you need. Depressing, I know...but true. Good luck... |

| I hate scales. I didn't own one because I get a little obsessive with weighing myself. Well, he went and bought one. I got up this morning and was up 2 pounds over the weekend. Hmmmm....I ate 1200 calories per day and excercised 2 of 3 days...I didn't gain 2 pounds, but the scale says I did. So to celebrate, I ate a bear claw for breakfast and managed to eat another one during the day (they were on a plate at work). That is almost 1/2 of my daily calories. That is why I didn't have a scale and I don't want one in my house. It is much better to weigh at the gym once a week. OK...thanks for listening to me complain |

Very good point Terry. As a professional yo yo dieter for the last 7 or 8 years, I know that "diets" don't work any longer than you stick with them. I have finally come to the realization that this is a life long journey. It doesn't mean that I have to be a restrictive as I am now, but it doesn't mean I can go back to my old habits either. I have to find a happy middle. When I get down to my goal, that will be the hardest part for me. Also, exercise should be part of my life every day, not only for weight loss, but for my overall health. Sounds like we had a great week as a group. Congrats to everyone. Welcome to Tammy.... I am nervous about tomorrow since I am chaging my weigh in day. It may be less than I have been seeing on the scales, but there is always next week. As far as my plan, I have had no slip ups. Here are a couple of unusual things I have done to jump start my weight loss. 1. My 13 year old daughter and I gave up ALL soda for New Years. If one of us breaks during the year they have to give the other one foot massages every night for a week. I don't care about the foot massages, but I am not going to let her win. 2. I gave up candy and cookies for Lent. I am not Catholic, but thought I could tie my weight loss to my personal faith. It is only 40 days. I am very competitive and I like challenges, but they have to be reachable. I don't know if you will find these useful, but it works for me. I look forward to the logging my weigh tomorrow and seeing how everyone has done. Tammie |

I am jealous of you that can eyeball food an be successful. I have tried this before and am surprised how much and ounce of cheese will grow for me over time. I am a planner so I weigh and measure foods and pre-pack them for convenience. It is the only way I can assure portion control. It may take more time and planning, but it shows up on the scale. When I get my weight down, I will take a more relaxed approach, but for now, I will remain a control freak...lol. My greatest motivation comes from others...which of course we can't control. I don't want to be fishing for compliments, but it is so awesome to hear from someone those magic words "have you lost some weight or something". I have also found motivation in things other than "the scale". Clothes fitting less tight, my cholesterol level going down, increased energy...the scale is only part of my goal...overall improved health. So if I stall on the scale, I think about how I "feel" better. It usually gets me through the day. Tammie |

Thank you all so much for letting me join you. I have a question. How many calories should I really be eating? I am 185lbs, 5'5" and a medium frame. I have researched this extensively and get different answers everywhere I go. I aim for 1200 - 1500 calories per day. I always shoot for the lower end, but I don't want to put my body into starvation mode. Any suggestions? With all of my dieting experience I hope to have some good tips to share. The one thing I can say for sure is measure and weigh your food. Eyeballing food will get you in trouble sooner or later. |

Well, I hope I am not attempting to join in too late. I read the posts and when I got to the last one, I decided I needed to see if I could join you all. I started CC on the 8th of February. I didn't weigh myself since the end of January, but I think I have lost about 13 pounds so far. Like Tina, I will be turning 40 in a few months (July, 2008). I am 5'5'' and 185 pounds...down from 198. My goal is 135 or so, but would be really OK at about 145. I have been a serial dieter for the last 10 years or so...somehow I hit 30 and my metabolism took a dive. It seems like every bite I eat sticks to me now. It is hard because for the first 30 years, I ate what I wanted, when I wanted with no major weight gain. Those days are over. I would love some help in sticking with this plan and would love to share my tips and encourage the rest of you. I just want to look "LIKE ME" at my 40th birthday party in July....thank you. |
