I probably put on a couple of pounds, but all the same, seeing those 4 go, is more than enough to make my day. We walked a lot though. All day, everyday! So may be, just may be I put on only a pound...

You guys are so right! It's been two days now and guess what? 4 pounds gone! I am so glad!! The first day, I fasted because I once heard a nutritionist (a real one Smile) on television say that fasting helps to detoxify and cleanse the body and that he does it at least once a week. So I figured it was a good way to start. So on day one, I fasted (but ended up having 1000 calories when the day ended). I had lots of water as well and the next morning, 3 pounds were gone. Yesterday, I had about 1260. This morning, I shed another pound. Somehow, life doesn't seem so bad and the bloating is gradually subsiding. I was so scared it was real (and ugly) weight and wondering, what am I going to do...

Thanks A LOT!!!

I sort of understand that, but why do I look fat? It is physically showing and that is what's nagging me...

Foods I'm eating 30-50 calories a day, and gaining weight, please help! Apr 03 2008

I think you are over eating. You should try to go for 10-20 calories maximum. If you are constantly hungry, break it into small meals of 1.25 calories so that you can eat more often. It helps.

- Don't eat anything with more than 6 ingredients. (This makes it a 'food like substance' rather than a food.)

That is interesting! Would you care to explain that a little further? Does it involve chocolate?

Last night - at around 10pm) I had this bar of chocolate that has been sitting on my desk for months because I am not sure if it expires in April or June (I didn't want to throw it away-throwing away food has a VERY BAD haunting psychological effect on me).  The  scale went up  like 3 pounds but I am not bothered by that, am sure I will stabilise in about a week. But I had a bad night and all day I have a nauseous feeling especially when I see anything sweet, even fruits. I don't have a sweet tooth, I gave up taking sugar in my beverages like 2 years ago and of recent, I have realised, I can't stand the sight and taste of juice, especially that which is sweetened. Should I be happy about this? And when you talk about those more than 6 ingredients, I start to wonder...

Me too! I weigh myself every morning. For me, it helps keep me on track - and logging it into my weight log is an even better perk for me! Even if I am stuck at the same # for a week or to, the trend line keeps going down, and so do the trend numbers and that is enough proof for me that I am on track!

I hold my breath every time I get on the scale and...

- jump for joy and do a little dance if it goes down Laughing

- sigh and move on with life if it stays the same Undecided

- gasp and reassess my food/workout plans for the next week (less jelly beans, more cucumber slices and carrots?) Yell

You just described me. Every last detail! I can't do without it! Personally, I think it has had a BIG role to play in the weight loss journey.

Weight Loss Upping Cals to lose--Success Stories! Mar 31 2008

I used to try so hard to burn what I had put in, especially January of this year. Like you, it was out of ignorance not an ED. I did lose weight but not in leaps and bounds. The scale went down half-heartedly but what I succeeded in, was looking sick and feeling weak and I still wasn't at my ideal weight. Everyone was telling me to stop losing weight and I wasn't even halfway there!  Nowadays, I try to target my BMR (1350) although on most days I go for about 1500-1600. My burn meter is 1580 at sedentary so I try to exercise for an extra 300 calories. My deficit is usually between 250-300calories. I reached my goal which was 119 (which should be my maximum weight) but I range from 117-119. The good news is since I upped my calorie intake, I hit my target with less struggle and for the last 3 days, I realise I don't look so washed out anymore. My cheeks are filling up, my bones are not sticking out and my weight is not going up! Now, more than ever, I know that all I need to do is give my body what it needs (by not denying it) and everything sort of falls in place.

It is not that easy Wink but you wanted a success story. It gets better when you stick with it.

You could start by thinking of yourself as living in a different time zone where your day starts at 11am. That way, you can have all your meals, only it will not be at the time that everyone is having what is usually had at that time of the day.

I am 5'3 and 26 years old.  My current weigh loss started at 134 and now about 118 and hoping to stay there. One thing I have learnt here is to give your body the nourishment it needs. The deficit you create in exercise doesn't necessarily translate into weigh loss on the scale at least. You body just hoards it. I am sedentary as well but I climb stairs twice a day for 20 minutes (40 in total), eat my BMR which is approx. 1340, take lots of water, I am rarely hungry and I still lose weight and I am happy. I get a deficit of about 500calories each day. You don't have long to go. I would suggest you eat more for the 7 miles you put in (at least 1500).

I hope it helps.

I have been thinking the same thing and have actually started doing that and I realise I am less hungry and much happier and getting results. Sometimes we worry way too much and get distorted on the way and then we wonder what is going on.

Thanks for sharing that!

I would suggest that you get on the scale. For me, I feel bad when I binge and I think I should stay away from the scale but I find myself there the next morning because the not knowing is worse for me. I need to know what I am up against and you can't confront what you can't identify. Sometimes you can be in for a nice surprise, when the increase is not as bad as you had hoped. It happens!!

Hi gi-jane,

Thanks for your replies. It is reassuring because I wouldn't want my body to have tyo maintain so much weight on so little calories. I try to be consistent also although sometimes I get to about 1300 or thereabouts. Sometimes I even wonder whether I am counting my calories well especially when I am not getting the hoped-for results. But I try to make allowances in case I am not counting well.

Hi busy mom,

I can't agree with you more. The very same thing happens to me.  I also weigh myself the same time every morning. Tonight, I ate a lot more because we had a get-together and I am so scared of going to the scale tomorrow. I wish someone had a more concrete answer. I am not sure how much more is coming on. The last time I ate a lot, I gained 3 pounds over night and it took 10 days to get back to my original weight. It has become like a back-and-forth thing. The you have to starve yourself to get back there. I am 5'3 and weigh 120. And no, I can't weigh myself once a week. I have to see how I progress daily, frustrating as it may be.

I have been there and for me when the guilt sets in, it is not worth all the hard work I put in. I practically despise myself the next day for being out of control. One day I went out with friends for my birthday and I decided to cast all my cares. Not only did I have indigestion, I put on over 3 pounds overnight and it took me 10 days to get back to where I was before all that happened. You might want to ask yourself if it is really worth it? What I do these days is treat myself to something I like at the expense of another. If I want ice cream, cake, yoghurt I will have it but no proper meals there after (but lots of vegetables, may be), then I go for a long walk, I try to sleep early so that I don't think about food. Another thing, if you want to treat yourself, be sure to do it earlier rather than later on in the day. You have better chances of burning it. I try to do that a lot so even if the scale tips NOT in my favor, it is not so heartbreaking.

To be honest, we need these treats! At least I do!!!

Hi there,

This is the first reply I have posted and I am relatively new on the site but there are two things I have realised. People who put you down especially with the weight issue or anything that has to do with how you look are very insecure people and do it to feel better about themselves and their "imperfections". And we are human so what others say to us matters but don't let it make or break your day. The other thing, some people actually mean well, they just don't know how to say it in a way that doesn't hurt. But it all comes down to your own self-esteem and the real reason why you need (so much) people's approval. There will always be someone who doesn't approve or who has something nasty to say. Learn to love yourself. If you feel good about who you are on the inside, it will be transformed to the outside. Otherwise they'll get you up and down--you are too fat or too thin--lose some weight, put on some weight. It sucks! I know because I have been there. Wish you success with that.

About the ice cream, I say treat yourself once in a while and fore go a meal when you do, so you don't feel so guilty after. After all what is the point if you can't enjoy it?
