Lulu maybe you are trying to do too much at once? Putting too much pressure on yourself can lead to failure pretty fast; also, this isn't going to be easy, and if you mess up, you can't beat yourself up about it. I had a bad week, I didn't count at all, and I feel really bad about it. But, I'm going to try and take it easy on myself. I have to keep thinking that this is a process, and I'd rather do it right, ya know. |

Novi you just made me lol. I think we are all having an off couple of weeks. I weighed myself this morning, 139. I dunno. I feel like it won't stay and next week I'll be back in the 40s. I haven't done much lately. Just normal soccer and work. I feel so lazy and gross and I just cannot break the cycle. I think I need some out of house hobbies. Any ideas? |

Novi, I hope you are ok! CBell and Lulu said it so well! You could be the most beautiful person on the outside, and a giant a**hole on the inside, and no one would care what you looked like. You should focus on the things you like about yourself, that will never change, like how smart you are, or you can cook, or you can shimmy like no one else. Focus on your strengths, and your weaknesses won't seem so overpowering.
As for me, I weighed in at 141.5. So I guess I didn't lose any weight either. I really think that I should weigh myself less than 1x a week, just because I think it will take me longer to lose the weight than 2 months, even though technically it's possible. I would rather take it slow so I don't feel like I'm on a diet. Plus I know my body, and It can take 3 months to lose 5 lbs. Waaah. :(
Hope everyone is doing well though!! Thanksgiving is so soon and I am not going to count I already decided :) |

Hey everyone! I am a day late, sorry! I weighed myself yesterday and came in at 141.5 which I think is what I was last week- today I was 139.5 ... And I never weigh myself more than once a week, but I was glad I did this morning. CBell- and Everyone else, heh- I have been so bad the last week and a half too! I didn't lift until yesterday- I have been such a bum on my couch after work, blaming everything around me but myself. We haven't had heat in the apt. so I kept saying it was too cold to get out from under the covers to work out. Finally yesterday I did workout and I felt great during and after. so, Lulu, I totally understand when you say you have something holding you back, because I think that I do too. I don't know what though, I am so sick of trying on my clothes and hating how they look on me- I remember when I was thinner how it didn't matter what I put on, it looked good! So...I guess we just have to push through the voice in our heads, no one said it would be easy. Novi, congrats, thats awesome!!! Keep it up! |

Coffee is a diuretic...It makes you, er...move. Both 1 and 2. It's a stimulant, so yes, it is normal. |

Weighed in 141.5 this morning- 1 lb down from last week...it doesn't feel like I really lost a pound though, probably just water or something- I had a rough week. But tomorrow is my friends wedding, so I'm pumped! Hope everyone is doing well!! |

Lulu- Good luck in VT! Luna bars are amazing for travelling snacks--apples, almonds, and bananas travel well too, and are pretty filling for the calorie content.
Novi- I think you're totally right about what you eat and how much. I love doritos, but don't eat them on the reg like I used to. Going out to eat I always get a salad, ya know, they say people who eat salads eat less---Well, I don't. I actually think if I skipped the salad I would save those calories. I pretty much tell myself how much I can eat and stop when I am there when I go out. My problem is not stopping when I hit the full mark at home. Especially after a long work day! |

It's hard to count on the weekends, definitely! Especially if you go out to eat and the food isn't on the list here.I guess that goes for eating out in general. But on the weekends for me at least, I just tend to let it go...plus I don't love doing this whole dieting thing in front of my boyfriend, I don't know why! Thanks for the responses on cheating! That is a good way to look at it, other wise it feels like deprivation |

Hey everyone! Sorry I didn't post on friday...or saturday :( But, I bought a scale today, and weighed myself ad am 142.5 this morning. Not too bad, for about 2 weeks of working on it! I had a bad week, too- working 9 hours left me tired and ravenous, so I ate a ton and only lifted twice this week--thank goodness I play soccer 3 nights, or I wouldn't do anything!! I did go hiking yesterday tho, maybe that helped. Next weekend I am going to a wedding...Oh boy, I want to look good, but also, I plan on kinda going nuts. I haven't been drinking beer or eating anything too bad for me (Ok I had ice cream twice...) so I planned for this one day to be my crazy day for the month.
Do you guys think that maybe picking one day a month to go crazy is a good idea? Like, for November I would choose thanksgiving, cause hello! and then for Dec. maybe x-mas...This way you can tell you yourself, wait until thanksgiving for that dessert or something? I dunno, what do you guys do cheat wise??

Good for you!! Doesn't it feel so satisfying? NaturallyD and Thermal are totally right-- you have to believe that you truly are hot ****, and anyone would be lucky to have you. One year in college all the sudden I felt like I was on top of my game, and I acted it and the boys just ate it up. It's funny though, now that I snagged a great boyfriend I find myself forgetting my hotstuff attitude and sneaking into old habits of not feeling good enough. We all have something to offer though, and we're all hot pieces of A. Go us. |

Hey everyone! sorry I haven't answered anyone in awhile, I've been a space case lately! So I don't own a scale (for good reason, I think I'd obsess)...But, I will buy one. the last time I weighed myself (last weekend) I was about 146, so I'm going to start at that weight for now...and I will buy a scale on my next day off... Melika- I was logging my waitressing as Serving Food for a while, but I just decided to up my activity level to Moderate-- I feel like i am getting a good workout waiting table too, lifting all those trays, plates and coffee urns. I sweat too and then my hair frizzes!! Novi- that's amazing, plus I think you're on to something cause I am always starving when I get home, and days like today (which are more often now) I work nine hours and its almost impossible for me to eat on a regular schedule; plus I don't eat anything they have except their yogurt and bananas, i usually bring a Luna bar too. Hey, if you're looking for a good barley risotto, I have a barley pilaf recipe that's very much like risotto on my recipes, If you search for Barley Pilaf with veggies, it should come up. Doesn't take too long to make either, with quick-cooking barley. Lulu- I love your attitude and I totally agree. It took me how long to put this weight on? It willl take just as much time, and a lot more effort to take it off, and any loss will be a win.
It's nice to have a support group! My boyfriend looks at me like I'm crazy!! Good luck everyone!! |

Hey everyone, I'd love to join the group. My name is Tami and I'm 22. I currently weigh about 140-145 (I fluctuate), and would like to lose 15-20 pounds. I'm not sure if I can do it by December, but I would be happy with any weight loss by then! I'm 5'3 and play soccer 3 nights a week and am weight/circuit training 3 days a week. Also, I waitress fulltime, so I move around a lot. I am trying to eat under 1800 a day, since it is almost impossible for me not to! I have been trying to lose weight this way for a while but I got very unmotivated over the summer and I think it caught up to me.
My goal gift to me would definitely be some new clothes--I hate shopping and I am so sick of my clothes and my jeans. Maybe if they fit better... ;) |

I just wrote a 30 page paper on this! Kind of, it was on Cardiovascular Disease, but still. And no, for your own sakes I will not post it. ;) But obesity is a down right epidemic in America--we all wonder how it happened, but when we look back at the history of industry, it all makes sense; we wanted to see more of everything, faster, and for cheap. If you are looking for a good read (and quick, I promise), check out Fat Land by Greg Critser. It summarizes how we became a nation obsessed with food. And not only that, but how obesity has somehow become an income issue. You would think that low-income families would not be able to afford all they can eat, but remember all those lovely fast food places you just named? How expensive is the dollar menu? You can feed your entire family for under $15.
Edit: Also, a lot of people who become obese are not very well informed about proper nutrition and exercise. Many schools are not required to teach physical education. Overweight children are almost 2/3 at risk of becoming obese adults. It's cyclical |

that's awesome! yeah, things like that really add up. this winter i had to shovel my entire (iced over) driveway, and it took me about an hour--- but I burned a butt load of cals doing it! and my car got in and out of the driveway much easier. :)

I took today off! I usually take the weekends off, but today I just felt so blah (that time of the month). I noticed it though, because I love the way I feel after working out, more energized, happier. I felt guilty tonight and verrry fatigued and fat... Also, it makes me feel like I will get off track. but, I will get back on it tomorrow. |

I totally agree with you. I eat about 4 snacks a day in between my meals (an apple here, banana there, you know how it goes). I just kind of log everything in one big lump, I stopped trying to categorize them because they didn't have the snack sections. oh well though! |

I used to come home from school and snack on straight white bread. It was so bad! Now I only eat whole wheat or whole grain breads...but rarely. I put peanut butter on one half a slice, and jelly and cottage cheese on the other--very tasty, and it is definitely filling.

| Weight Loss | SO upset | Apr 28 2008 23:05 (UTC) |

I feel your pain. For me it seems that everytime I try to do something good for myself exercise-wise I end up getting hurt. I started jogging on the treadmill over my winter break (i'm in college) and got myself up to an entire hour of running. Then when I got back to school I tried running outside...and strained a tendon in my foot. I couldn't even walk to class! It was a bummer. But, you get better, and hopefully learn (in my case, I should have rested) a lesson. Definitely try and work on your upper body for now. And like snowfence said, just keep on keepin on! |

I had the same problem!! I was walking so much I went through 2 soles of my vans (and now my socks get dirty gross) and then I eventually injured my foot! I bought a pair of running shoes awhile back, and although I too hate hate hate how dorky I look with my kicks on with my jeans, I have to do it. I walk way too much to have injured feet because of my shoes. SO I would recommend asics brand, thats the type I got and my foot stopped hurting within a week or so. Also, I haven't ruined any socks. :) good luck! I totally thought I was alone in the world of walking in my slip ons! my friends and fam don't understand my love for vans! |

1. Super crunchy (I looove natural peanut butter now) 2. I love peanut butter on toasted whole wheat bread or a thomas' multi grain guy. Or an apple. Or banana. Sometimes alone if I don't have anything fun to put it on. 3. I have never had cold PB. Ooh unless its in ice cream, in which case yeaaah 4. Fav is definitely a PB and J or PB on one side with J and cottage cheese on other side of english muffin (basically not sammiched). |
