People have given advice about not having junk in the house and I agree with that 100%, it's very true.  BUT, as you say, you will eat ANYTHING, and it IS possible to binge on HEALTHY foods (nuts, cereal, peanut butter, whatever) to the point where you feel sick and gain weight.

Actually my suggestion was not to have a lot of 'ready-made' food in the house rather than 'junk'.  Things like nuts can be eaten straight out of the packet so they're a bad thing to have around if you're a cupboard rustler.  Pasta or a potato at least takes a few minutes to convert into something edible.  Dry oats aren't quite as tempting as ready-to-go cereals.  Keep bread in the freezer, for example.... that short delay while you microwave it back to life can be enough to make you think again.

Here's a bit of trivia.... Charles Darwin, in an effort to reduce his snuff habit, kept his snuff locked in the cellar and the key to the cellar locked in the attic.... If he really wanted some he had to climb a lot of stairs!!

Barriers.... If you struggle with overeating, place barriers between you and the food.

I should DEFINATELY lock all my food in the attic...  That would make me think twice!  lol :)

Pregnancy & Parenting Baby is almost here, what kind of diet should I start after the baby? May 04 2009

I had my daughter Feb25 and I was already down to pre-pregnancy weight by her 2mo mark :)  (I gained 49lb)  Lots of walking and 2000cal a day + vitamins, I didn't restrict my diet other than calories (sorry for the people who will gripe at me for that but yes I still had my chocolates and etc).  The best thing I bought was her carrier, she loves it and it helps get in some extra exercise while I'm doing housework or walking/shopping.  I am strictly breastfeeding as well...  Also, I didn't lose any weight for about 2weeks after she was born from swelling and water retention.  Remember not to work hard as your body is healing still, wait until your 6wk PP checkup before you start doing anything but walking and lifting baby!!  :-)

Health & Support Dryer Sheets May 03 2009

I get bounce, and I use the same dryer sheet 2-4 times before throwing it out - still takes off the static and keeps the good smell in clothes.  I don't go for other dryer sheet brands though, bad experiences with store brands lol! :)

5 weeks is really a bit early.  closer to 8 weeks, you should be able to see something.  They are pretty $$ if you dont' have insurance.

go for a blood test. that is more accurate and sensitive than a urine test.

5 weeks isn't early at all, you can still detect the amniotic sac and see the 'yolk'.  Even though the baby hasn't become a baby you can see it.  An ultrasound around here is about 100-300$.   And a blood test is a good idea as well, but you should be getting positives by now if you are pregnant.  Also If you haven't been on birth control normally and just took it recently it could affect your period as well.  Good luck and hope you find out soon!

Pregnancy & Parenting Starting to freak out... how much does exercise affect Aunt Flo? Apr 17 2009

I would take another test in a week, with my last baby I had brownish red spotting on the day my period was supposed to start (after years of regular periods) and took 2 tests and they came back negative.  A week later I took another test and it was positive.  Anyhow seeing as you used a condom it could just be caused by a change in your diet and exercise or if you've been severely stressed maybe...  Hope you find out soon!

Yea, it's a myth.   Here's a couple of links:

McDougall.

PCRM. (see #4)

I found it interesting that McDougall on the bottom of the page seems to disagree with what we call 'starvation mode' - saying that the Irish men who died, had a huge loss in FAT and kept most of their muscle.  Interesting.   Anyhow this thread was interesting because I didn't know the answer to the Q myself!

When I was a 38D, I would wear a supportive regular bra with a GOOD sports bra over it (like LL Bean's Moving Comfort #WPL7232). That combo has always worked for me. I'm a rider and I HATE bouncing boobs!!

I tried a Enell bra and others of that type...I HATED them. Sold on EBay.

I agree, I'm a 40D and I have always worn a normal support bra under a sports bra (or2) It definately helps keep the jiggle down :P

Weight Loss fattening banana argument LMAO?? Feb 25 2008

Man someone saying a banana is fattening is kinda funny :P  My kids love bananas and they are rail thin (in reply to mommyking276 though) my oldest son is in the 90th percentile for height and weight at 4 but he is really tall and i can touch my thumbs and fingers around his waist - he's so skinny, my other son is in the 99th pct at 3yo and he is just as tall as 4yo and weighs 1lb less!  If anything I say those bananas are helping them grow up nice and strong :) :)  On another note - I have had people tell me how horrible avocados are while eating pizza and drinking coke as well! :P

It doesn't honestly sound off by much if any.  Considering a Crispy chicken sandwich from Wendy's is 380c, McChicken is 360c, and one of the BIG crispy chickens from McD is 500c or so, I would say you are probably in the right area! :)

Lifting light weights (5-10lb) is a nice step up, maybe add some good stretching before your walks, or play frisbee/toss a football.  pgeorgian's idea is great too, a little jog in your walks to spice them up!  (Ice skating is ruff if you've never done it before lol - just make sure you have the pads/gear to work with it).  <3

Motivation Can't Say No! Feb 16 2008

The best advice I can give is... Find something  or someONE that will inspire you to stop.  Alot that I've seen people use are (1) Being able to play with your children (2) Being healthy! (3) Fitting into that sexy swimsuit

My personal motivater to 'stop eating everything in sight' is my mom.  I remember growing up and loving my mom to death, and always wanting to be just like her.  My mom was also quite overweight and I remember begging her to go to the pool or go outside and play.  She couldn't do it -  I don't want to be afraid to go out in a skirt or swimsuit.  I want to live life to the fullest!!

You CAN say NO and you'll find a way.  :)  -hope I helped-

I really agree with bobbyshow, I also think that you should try getting into a routine of eating a mixed cycle of foods.  Eating 2 bowls of cereal a day is gonna get boring of course!!!  Maybe make a fruit salad for breakfast and a yummy veggie salad for lunch.  I have had problems with eating in the next room while my kids and husband eat in the dining room.  It's really hard, but you really need to not be as restrictive with your diet!!  Instead of leaving the room while my family eats, now I make my food and theirs similar so I can spend time AND eat what I want :)  And congrats on the weight loss, awesome job!!!!
Foods How often......??? Feb 16 2008

I have a 100% whole wheat bagel and 2Tbsp of fat free cream cheese for breakfast once a week or so, 200 calories, but yummy and filling.  Pancakes are a little less often, more of a when-I'm-craving-yumyums breakfast.  I would consider oreos and dark chocolate a rare delicacy ;)  Just remember that there are healthy alternatives to all of those things.

I hate drinking water too!  Usually because of the taste/no taste factor.  Lately I've been drinking more and I've noticed my weight is higher in the evenings, but usually back to normal in the morning after potty time :P
Foods Salads Feb 12 2008

I have problems putting a whole lot on my salads.  Most of my salads are

Iceburg, 1Tbsp shredded cheese, tomato, dressing

Iceburg, 2 fatfree crackers, green pepper, dressing

Romaine, tomato, grilled chicken breast, dressing

so on...  Are there some 'simple salads' that maybe have a twist?  Or maybe even some kind of dressing that is lighter (i don't put much on)?  And are the salad spritzers any good?  I see them in the grocery store but have never tried them.
