I totally agree with Clairelaine. If you're young, eating a-lot is good for a growing 15 year-old. It's completely normal. Just make sure that you are nibbling on healthy foods like fruits, nuts and veggies, plus whole grains and beans they are very filling. If you are worried about fat just dump the junk and keep it clean. You will feel much better about yourself. If you eat sweets keep it in moderation. Best of luck!

Way to go giasbash! I took my children Trick o'Treating last night and bought home three bags full of all kinds of junk and I have not had one piece. Thanks for your inspiration, we are giving some of that candy to our co-workers ASAP! It would be best not to bother eating it anyway. I know that if I have one I would wind up doing what moonbay did. No offense intended, but I've done the same thing and suffered the consequences. Thanks for reminding me moonbay.

Emmmers, don't worry about bulking up. Women's muscles are smaller than men's. Plus, the more muscle you have the more body fat you are burning, the stronger and ripped you'll get. Good Luck!

You must try Chayote boiled with no salt. 38 calories! it tastes real good with chicken on the side and some salad with extra virgin olive oil. Every time I eat one, I'm well satiated until my next meal.

If you're trying to figure out where the carbs are, take a look at the English muffin with the jelly, the fat-free yogurt, apple, fiber one and chocolate bar that's where all your carbs are. If you're trying to cut out carbs it is always best to have a little bit of everything to keep your meals well balanced (Mostly whole grain, vegetables and protein). Like your breakfast is fine without the english muffin and jelly. Add another 2 egg whites instead or a protein shake. Lunch: Always have at least 3 oz of protein like chicken and a salad and yam fries (baked), fruit for dessert. Your Dinner looks perfect with a meat and veggy if you're doing lo-carb, however if you're not worried about the carbs just add a baked potato, fruit for dessert. Rule of thumb: have a little from each food group, keep away from refined sugars and HFCS, Transfats or anything packaged and processed and you'll do fine. Good Luck!

HI!

I'm also a mother of three, and I used to feel the same way. I used to get up at 4:30am and be at the gym at 5am. If there's a gym no more than 30 minutes away or walk with a neighbor at these hours or just do it in your own home, it's doable. I know it's hard getting up that early, but you eventually get used to it. Plus there's peace and quiet and that's the best part.

Foods Which is worse: Trans Fat or High Fructose Corn Syrup? Jun 08 2008

I see it this way, Trans-Fats in the long run accumulate in your arteries causing a stroke or heart-attack. Let's face it, these chemicals are men made and are not good for the human body. HFCS on the other hand make you fat and hungry all the time; you can eat, eat, and never be satiated. These are both horrible chemicals made for shelf life, they do not nourish our bodies, they accumulate in our bodies. When will the government realize that these chemicals are harming our American people. 60 percent and climbing of America is obese with diabetes, high-blood pressure and even cancer. If they don't occur in nature they are not good for you! We'd have better health care if these refined foods and preservatives did not exist. Think about it...

You have some really good posts here, I also used to wonder about jean sizes. I am 5'6" At 170 I can fit into a size 10 comfortably, now that I have gained some weight 187 lbs I fit into a size 12. It really is all about where your body carries the extra weight. I've gained at least 10lbs of muscle weight from weightlifting and carry my weight evenly throughout my body. Thank you for the post and all the great comments. It was a great read!

I'm sorry Jakshops, but there is nothing more refreshing, and more healthier, cleaner, and thirst quenching than a nice cold glass of WATER, there are no calories and can make you feel full; plain carbonated water doesn't even top that. A wedge of lemon usually helps break the ice...

caloriecountingme... that's amazing! You go girl! how long have you been lifting? How many reps on your 165lb? Do you know how much muscle you have gained?

Spirochete, I believe it's www.oxygenmag.com, this magazine is geared exclusively to woman who want to eat clean foods, do hard weights, cardio... you name it. Muscle & Fitness is also a good read, but it's mostly geared to men. I like it because I can change my workout every week; and that is key to building muscle, you need to keep your body guessing the same goes for food, if you're eating the same thing with no results then it's time to shift things around. My trainer recommended I eat my carbs before 3pm, after that just eat proteins and veggies... talk about shifting a diet. So far so good, I've been losing some weight steadily, I just lost an inch in the past three weeks.

Good luck to all ya' ladies!

Hi Spirochete, I totally agree with you on novices approaching to help out with what ever we're doing at the gym with free weights. Some time this week a skinny dude I've never seen at the gym, who claims to be a quarterback for his football team approached me when I handled a 45lb straight barbell. He said, "you shouldn't do curls with a straight barbell because you can hurt your wrist". Sure, it's safer to use the curved barbells, but you're not touching on other muscles that should be worked on. And if you're doing the curls correctly by keeping your elbows in, and keeping your core strong as you do these fierce curls...  what I'm trying to say is, if you're doing it correctly, there is no risk of injury. I told him, "My trainer said these are ok... I've been doing these long enough and I have not hurt my wrist yet". Believe me I can go on and on... But I like to walk into the gym on a mission, and that's to lift hard and strong.

Men will be men, sometimes we're approached because they want to check us out.

So ladies, if you are not feeling the burn, dripping in sweat, and the blood rushing through your veins with a 10lb dumbbell, you're not burning fat or gaining muscle. Hike up those weight and forget about them looking at you! you're there for you, not them! Plus women's anatomy is not like a men's. To look like a professional heavy weight lifter, with big muscles you'd have to take steroids and train twice a day. The most we'll ever achieve is a lean, strong, muscular figure depending on our genes and what we eat.

Spirochete, I admire your 165lb. squat. Have you seen Oxygen magazine? what do you think?

Jim, I had a funny feeling about these stats getting around. They've been around that long! My trainer passed them on to me a couple of days ago. I thought it would spring some interest on this site. Sometimes we all need to be reminded of what's out there, and if you do eat it, try not to eat the whole thing. Portion sizes are not what they used to be.

Thank you all for reading and keep it clean! Smile

Hi!

I know exactly how you feel. For a while I couldn't figure out what and when to eat. I thought I was doing the right thing until I found this CC site. It's helped me to journal and keep tabs of what I eat within their recommended calorie intake. I lost 3 pounds this past week. I've been working out at the gym for three years... yeah I gained at least 10lbs of muscle weight but can't seem to shake off the layer of fat that's covering my muscle gains. I'll be 41 this weekend and also have three children under the age of 8. Exercising wether it be spin classes, weight training or calistnetics are very helpful maintaining weight, plus it keeps you strong and energetic and that's if you're eating enough. Last year my GYN doctor recommended I keep a clean diet and keep processed foods to a minimum. Take vitamins especially, Magnisium (decreases cravings), calcium, C vit., E vit., B6 or B12 Complex and Evening Primrose oil plus a multivitamin. A helpful book you might want to read is "The Eat-Clean Diet" by Tosca Reno. It just opens up a new way of thinking about what is healthy for your body and developing good eating habits. Granted, it gets hard trying to figure out the right food schedule. My trainer just recommended I eat carbs only up to 2:30pm and just have protein and salads for the rest of the day. It sounds good, I'm going to try it for two weeks to see what happens. I hope some of my information is helpful... Good Luck!

Extra Virgin Olive Oil is always good on anything, plus it's good for your health, as long as it's not overheated.

Did you hear, recently they found a woman the age of 120 Y.O.?  She broke the world record. She claims that she drinks a glass of olive oil every day. I don't think anyone can handle that, but I do know for sure that olive oil is a very good (Cold Pressed olive oil).

Good luck!
