Weight Loss not loosing...not giving up but would like some advice Dec 12 2008

I really wish I had some awesome advice here, but I am experiencing the EXACT same thing. Active lifestyle, very healthy eating habits, and occasionally (like once a month) overeating emotionally, but no weight loss. All I can say is that you are not alone. If you figure something out, share the love. lolz Wink

I share your sentiments. I go through the same thing. I am trying to manage by talking to loved ones and recently I registered for counseling at my university. They say that behavior like ours is due to an underlying dissatisfaction or inability to manage stress. So, I am going to talk to a professional to find out what that's all about or, if anything, to at least avoid stress-eating or stressing out over a few extra calories.

What does help sometimes is thinking about the truly important things in life and looking forward to the positive things ahead. I made a "vision board" for my room. It's a corkboard with goals, photos, and positive thoughts tacked on it to remind me of those things that matter.

I completely understand and wish you the best in your endeavors.

I usually aim for 1500 on sedentary days, and 1700 on workout days. I've been really stressed with work this month so I'm averaging 1900 right now.

ajde - Best of luck with the thyroid diagnosis. One of my best friends has a thyroid problem and her weight goes back and forth, but more importantly, it's great that you're looking into it considering your family history.

sevekuh - Welcome and good luck!!

Actually, I bike back and forth to work everyday (4 miles). I live in Philadelphia so all of my errands are by foot. I work with children and therefore play some of the day. I take martial arts class twice a week. During the spring semester, I was in the gym for an hour 3-5 days a week for circuit training. I also maintain a very healthy diet. I just don't get it. You can see how I am frustrated. In October, I was a size 4 and 140 lbs. By January ( and to this day), I am a size 10 and 150 lbs. However, the size 4 took a year to achieve and was the result of being broke and depressed. I would love to be a healthy size 6. I think I can pull that off.  ALL OF THAT is why I am so frustrated.

Hey ajde!  I stumbled across this thread and TOTALLY relate to your efforts. For the past, 6 months, I've been working out regularly and managing a 1500-1700 calorie diet (on average), but I haven't lost a pound!! I am so discouraged that I'm starting to really hate my reflection. How did you get the ball rolling when you got stuck?

Thanks for the support everyone! Smile

the worst part about it for me is that i KNOW I CAN do it!! when i put my mind to something, i go all the way. But i've gone all the way. I'm practically vegetarian and the only fat i eat is from nuts or popcorn. i work out harder than all of my girlfriends. We would hit the gym together in between classes. They all lost 6-10 lbs. doing half the workout. I lost nothing.

Okay....I'm weighing in a week later still at 150 lbs. BUT I felt pretty good about my bikini this weekend on the beach!!

I'm going to cut my portions a little. I think my perception is a tad distorted.

Hey there...I share your sentiments. I have friends that complain as much as I do about their weight but they're thin! They watch what they eat but on their "bad days" they have pizza, tiramisu, and cheesesteaks. My "bad days" I have too much popcorn or overindulged in triscuits. I know that it's probably a difference in  metabolism and genetics but it doesnt make it easier for me.

As for the binge eating.... I only "binge" when I restricted myself too much during the day or as an emotional outlet. The whole obsession with losing weight gets so frustrating at times that I just decide to eat half a box of cereal. In fact, my "bad days" barely hit 2200 calories.

I, too, am tired of constantly counting calories while others have no need. I'm trying to listen to my body and only eat when hungry, and stop when I'm full. I'm hoping I am successful now that I'm armed with the right information, exercise regularly, and healthy foods.

Just try to stay positive. You're not alone. Smile

Weight Loss Are You Happier After Weight Loss? Jul 06 2008

I have not been very successful in my weight loss but have been asked this question by family and friends all the time. They always ask me "Do you think losing weight will make you happier?" ..My honest answer is that I doubt it. I am quite happy already and the things that do upset me probably won't get better just because I'm 10 lbs. lighter. In fact, my bf thinks that I'm beautiful and that I am being too hard on myself, especially since my weight doesn't necessarily correlate with my happiness. So you have to ask yourself if it's actually weight or image issues that upset you. If so, then weight loss will help. If not, and it's simply a vanity issue (like me), then there are other things to pay attention to or, better yet, to appreciate.

Best of Luck

Weight Loss master cleanse detox? May 04 2008

I "detoxed" the other day in a much healthier way, and it was great. The Master Cleanse is unbelievably unsafe. What I did was a raw food day. I only ate fruit and raw veggies all day, lots of water, and herbal tea. The next day, I had a visibly flatter stomach.

I hope you guys are right because I'm more conscious of what I eat than my friends, and I workout harder than they do, but they're achieving results they want. I am pretty much stationary. I guess this is what a plateau is.

Thanks for the advice. I definitely need to do some measuring.

I bought this book a month ago, and found it very helpful. I am a balanced oxidizer. Yay! lol I also LOVE the workouts because they are intense. I'm still struggling to keep my percentages where they should be, but I totally support Jillian Michael's work. Regardless if she's on a tv show or studied martial arts, the woman is fit and she knows what she's talking about.

Thanks for the advice.

My workout usually consists of cardio and strength training by circuit training, or I'll go to martial arts class. As far as my caloric intake, everything I read says that I should be eating 1500 calories/day with exercise for weight loss. I guess I should just be patient.

Weight Loss large ribcage anyone? Mar 10 2008

I also have a large ribcage. Shopping for prom/homecoming dresses in high school was such a pain. I was down to a size 4 about six months ago and my ribs were the same size as they always had been. I'm assuming it's from having a larger bone structure in general. I wouldn't fuss about it. I'm sure it fits your body type just fine.

As far as finding the right tops, I've learned to steer clear of tops that are particularly snug around there b/c they're usually not cut for my size. HOWEVER, as with most things, you never know until you try. I've found that tops I assumed wouldn't be flattering, fit well.

So, in essence, dress for what you have rather than what you wish you had, and you'll always look fabulous!

My account on this thing says that I should consume 2100 calories a day. I've been on here for three days but I've been in the 1800 range. That's much higher than yours. Is it because I'm more active or am I still eating too much?

Hey there!

I just signed up for CC today to use as a tool for managing my weight loss. I am 22 years old, 5'4" and weigh 153 lbs. I am also attempting to reach 130 lbs. In October I was a size 4, but now it's February and I'm a size 10.

As of now, I work out one hour everyday whether it's pilates, spinning class, or crunches and jogging. Plus, I live in Philadelphia and walk everywhere. I hope all of this works because I lost it last time because I was sad. lol

Gotta stay motivated!!!!
