Well, April has been a horrible month for me. I have eaten way too much. It's not that I have eaten a lot of junk; I have just eaten too much. I go to the doctor on May 1st and dread the lecture I'm going to get. When I got weighed at her office last month I only showed a loss of 2 lbs (5 lbs according to my scale at home), and she was upset. I'm sure I will show a gain this month. Here's to a much better May. At least, I now have to mow my yard. Ten years ago it took 45 min, it now takes over 2 hrs to do. Of course ten years ago I weighed 100 lbs less. I just have to hope that next month will be better.

April 1st weigh in:

SW: 324   MARCH: 308.2   APRIL: 302.6   LOST: 5.6

Not as much as I had hoped for, but I just keep remembering "The Tortoise and The Hare" - slow and steady wins the the race. Hopefully, I'll soon be under 300. Next goal - 291.6 - my 10% weight.

I am curious as to how age and/or medical condition corresponds to weight loss. Any comments?

schnitzel - keep the faith! next month will be better.

aovermy - why isn't you dr. concerned about your weight loss and your overall health in general? seems to me that the dr. would still want to see how your cholesterol is doing.

I will post my weight loss for the month on the 1st since I have my drs appt then.

My appointment with GYN was good. He is not concerned about lump in armpit. He said it is a swollem lymph node. My mammogram is scheduled for Wed. I have a checkup with family Dr on Tues. His office called to tell me that the lab work I had done showed my kidneys to be in good shape, but my cholesterol is way too high. They want to put me on medication to get it down. (My son tried to comfort me by saying that years of bad stuff cannot be undone in just a few months.)

To aovermy - that had to be a terrific feeling! Congrats!

To hunorpam - I understand about the theater seats. I don't even bother to go anymore. It's too uncomfortable. Congrats on your 5 lb loss.

This seems to have been a hard month for me. I know I've lost some, but not like I had planned on. Here's to hoping April will be a better month.

I get to go to the GYN in the morning for my breast exam and then I get to do the fun part - the dreaded mammogram. I found a hard stationary lump in my armpit, so this is more than just an annual check. I hope it's nothing. I found out 2 months ago that I have congestive heart failure, and am trying to get all the tests done to find out how bad and why. I don't need any more stress in my life.

I have a quick question for anyone and everyone. Do sugar-free snacks make you crave sweets?  I just wondered how they affected everyone personally.

Well, I have been on an eat-a-thon for the past few days. I haven't felt good and have been eating way to many calories. I haven't been eating junk - don't have any in the house - just too much. Trying to get to feeling better. Must be a bug.

Went grocery shopping today for healthy foods. Trying to combine counting calories with the Mediterranean Diet. Want a heart healthy low calorie diet. I'm not sure how it will work out. Salad mix, mushrooms, red grapes, strawberries, apples, beans, broccoli, brussel sprouts, carrots, sweet potaotes, sugar-free jello, pecans, skinless chicken breasts, tuna, salmon, smoked herring, lite salad dressing, lite mayo, extra virgin olive oil, thin sliced chicken and turkey deli meats, flaxseed bread. These are some of the items I bought. No junk food, no salty snacks. Forgot to buy pasta. Why does it have to be expensive to eat healthy? I bought the Jello because Valerie Bertinelli said it was her favorite dessert, especially with whipped topping - Lite or fat-free. Not something I would normally purchase. Trying to wean myself from red meat and caffeine. I'm having headaches from the caffeine cut back, but I know they'll go away in time.

It's hard to change a lifestyle. I was a farmgirl who was raised eating beef. I love ribeye steaks. I love meat period. But I also could eat turkey everyday. Incorporating a lot of fruits and veggies into my diet is a big change for me. Except for salads - I eat a lot of salads, but lettuce does not have much nutritional value. I look at it as a filler food.

Any meal suggestions or any great recipes for chicken breasts?

I look at the weight loss amounts of members of this group and I am totally in awe. What amazing things we can do together. United we lose and alone we fail. Here's to a great weigh-in on Saturday morning.

Original Post by shnitzel:

Bethepoo, that's funny because I have the opposite problem. I'm 5'2", which is considered "petite" (if only), which is very rare to find in a size 30/32 (or 5X). I can fit into a 4X, but it's not as comfortable. Usually, when I find a size that fits, I have to roll up the sleeves about 6 inches and cut off at least 4 to 6 inches from pants. Skirts that would normally hit below the knee on taller women, are like ankle-length on me. Even when I wore a smaller size, I still had the same problem.

None of my suits fit anymore, but I refuse to spend the money for an expensive suit that won't look good on me anyway. So, that's another reason on my list of reasons to lose weight. And, one of these days, I'll be able to buy a bra that actually fits, but that's another rant!

Maybe I should shop for you since I seem to always find clothing that is too long for me????

I have had good luck shopping online through womanwithin.com. Their sizes come in petite, average and tall. I am 5'6" and I wear a 5x top and 4x bottoms and that presents a problem when buying suits. I found a fabulous black dress on clearance for $9.95. Got a 4x and it fits great.

I just bought one through amazon.com for $6.95. I knew that I had to have one to start my healthy way of eating. sometimes you need to measure ounces not a 1/2 cup.

At 23 I weighrd 236. By the time I was 25 I was down to 145. 26 years later I am up to 314 and have congestive heart failure. I am now in the position that I have to lose weight coz this is my life we're talking about it. If i had worked harder to keep the weight off, I wouldn't be in this position now. I remember how proud I was when I lost those 90 lbs and got down to a reasonable weight, and I feel sad now at what I've become. I need support to get me through this. This is going to be a long journey to get my health back.
