I caught my dog eating cat poo last week. Disgusting, but apparently normal. Now we have to keep the cat box out of reach. |

You have to sometimes look beyond just calorie content. There is still a huge difference between eating a 1000 calorie salad and a Big Mac. There are empty calories, and calories that have nutritional value attached. |

I too am a junk food junkie. Maybe not so much junk as take out. What worked for me was learning to make some of the junky foods I loved to order out. I make a killer low cal shrimp scampi, and awesome low fat blueberry muffins. I know this probably isn't ideal for everyone, but it made a huge difference for me. |

I nursed my daughter for the first year, and I feel your pain. I had gained quite a bit of weight, and had the hardest time losing it. It didn't really start to come off the way I wanted it to until I weaned her. You should be proud of the weight that you have lost, and like someone else here said, maybe try to increase you exercise a little. I'm totally not a gym rat, so I bought a cheap little 6lb exercise ball ( like a tiny medicine ball ) and some small weights, and did a little at home. I also took long walks, and tried to walk everywhere I could ( though this might be easier for me, I live in NYC ). Good luck, and don't sweat it so much. If you continue to eat right, and exercise, the weight will eventually fall off. |

| Pregnancy & Parenting | Who here is pregnant? | Mar 03 2008 20:31 (UTC) |

Hi. I am currently six months pregnant with my second child. I have a daughter named Angelina, who is four, and am now expecting another girl! I've just started counting calories, to curb excessive weight gain. I am naturally thin, and can usually eat whatever, but when I'm pregnant I just seem to pack on the pounds. Last time around I gained over 70 pounds! It came off eventually, but I know that much weight gain is unhealthy, so I'm trying to straighten myself out this time, lol. Basically, I'm just eating a bit above what I need to maintain normally, like you. It has been an eye opener to keep track of what I eat, and its really helped me to make healthier choices. I'm due June 22, and I can't wait. |

| Pregnancy & Parenting | When did you move your child from a crib to a bed? | Mar 03 2008 20:26 (UTC) |

The hard part will be getting him to sleep in a big bed by himself. My daughter is four, and we still catch her sneaking in to be with us at least once a week. As with any transition, it might be difficult at first, but I've found it becomes easier if you just make a decsion and stick to it. The hardest parts of motherhood for me start when I give in, or back track. Good Luck!

| Pregnancy & Parenting | The birth of your child: How has it affected your romantic life/relationship? | Mar 03 2008 20:21 (UTC) |

I think it depends on how strong your relationship is to begin with. Having a child, or going through any life altering situation can make or break a relationship. It pretty much destroyed my relationship with my ex husband ( the fahter of my four year old). Though I'm pregnant now with my fiance, and things are awesome, Its amazing the difference between being in a stale relationship and being ina great one. I hope everything works out for you. |

I wouldn't stress too much. I'm pregnant now, and I've gained 15 pounds. But the last time i was preggo I gained more than 70 pounds. All you can really do is try to eat right, and exercise the best you can ( which is hard when you start getting bigger in the belly area). Though the woman who replied before me about getting cheaper fresh produce and veggies and stuff is right. Meats can be a little pricey, but its still way cheaper to buy fresh or frozen stuff than boxed stuff. I realized this recently when I started cutting the garbage out of my diet. I'm on a tight budget too, and I feel your pain. My best advice? Don't drink soda ( If you drink it, I don't want to assume). Drink plenty of water ( which I do though I hate it) and try to at least buy fresh veggies. Today I bought six ears of corn for two bucks. Thats three meals worth of corn for us ( it might not stretch as far with you, but its probably cheaper than other options). Just is just what I'm doing, you need to find a balance that works for you. At the very least, cut out the fast food. It is terrible for you, and has very little nutritional value ( as yummy as it is). Good Luck! |

I feel your pain. I'm preggers too, and I see no harm in keeping track. It has actually made me smarter about the choices I make, and really puts things in perspective. I've stopped drinking soda, and cut out fast food. Though I do try and indulge every once in while with other things, lol..
Good Luck. |
