I get a real lift from reading this thread, i feel i have a better relationship with food nowadays which is what we're all striving for i guess.

my question is, when will you all go from counting to just "having a normal relationship with food"? (as it might be called).

i know ive gone times without counting (just being relaxed about food) but its hard not to, its hard to recall what life was like before counting. not that counting to make sure you're getting enough is bad its just that it seems un-natural to me to count everything.

ultimately you're all doing great it seems and this is a great place for people with ED problems to come, i know it's helped me

haven't posted on hear for yonks but i have been reading, you all seem to be doing really well, keep it up. Since my lightest ive gained about 10lbs 150-160lbs (6'4'') lots of working out in the gym and plenty of food.

good to see theres a place where people can support each other through this kind of thing

decided to log today... logged water too to see how heavy all my intake was.., this is befor dinner, which will be cottage pie. the mince used was 28%fat, but i fried and drained it 3 times.. the mash i made with skim milk s/p, its golden at the moment.

been keeping my mind off food by .. cooking!, for the family, cooked a variation of Lentil Rice Dish (Mujadarah Arabic Dish),  for family to take to work, also made them flapjacks and made chicken stock today, not really eaten that much today, will have to track and up intake when i start weight training. also bought a chinup bar today. How are you all?

relena  i know you really want to dance but at 5'2'' 100lbs is a bmi of 18.5, just on the cusp of underweight, these dance studios seem ridiculous, more concerned about weight than actually teaching people who want to dance, what a crock of ****. even though 18.5 is borderline underweight in some charts, any less than 20 is on others, moreover one can still be/look very unhealthy with a bmi of 18.5, i was around this and convinced myself i was at a "healthy" weight, but it just wasn't suited to my body, my parent's thought i looked ill.

be careful with exercise please and dont everdo it, esp if you still arent eating too much, it's easy to overtrain, i see exercise as a way to let me eat more! coz im so lazy a lot of the time. exercise will help your muscles grow but only if you give your body ample fuel.

i want everyone to keep trying their best, remember you wont turn into a blob overnight, even if you went overweight, which would likely take years, you could work it off.

remember the body is a remarkable thing and can take a lot of abuse that people throw at it, enjoy your food and try not to think about things tooo much, it would be heaven not to think about calories, does anyone remember not knowing/caring what a calorie was. them were the days.

tackle your fears and worries, dont make food the central part of your life, ED is all about control if you go too far in the opposite direction you still have a problem, but as long as you're not undereating being obsessive isn't too bad.

i know you all need to get enough cals to gain but thinking too much about it can just drive you crazy !

ah they finally fixed this so i can post again, saykyoku  i think you should tell your friend your concerns.

on an upside i ate a whole serving of mixed meat fried noodles and mixed seafood in yellowbean and cashewnuts the other week. grease feast :).

i'm sick of my low BP and having no energy, i wish it would go up to normal.

fhchicky4 - i know what you mean, how could i deny myself all those good things for so long, i'm glad i'm back to eating bread again!! and pasta and all that.
how can you put sugar with strawberries au'natural is what i say ;-) but some sugar can be nice :D

Breakfast-ham slice+roast chicken THIGH MEAT! (not skinless boneless chickenbreast BLAND! for once lol), only  a lil though, the fat is where the flavour is at people! after nibbling that, POrridge with a touch PB and jam. then a homegrown organic apple about an hour later. (i'll have you know! thankyouverymuch!)

after yesterday i decided despite being lean i'm actually quite unfit, so after some sprinting. looking forward to doing a bit more cardio to up my fitness, and get me going, as i feel quite sluggish sometimes.

1030 snack sandwich=2slices of ham with tomato+bbq sauce on wm bread

one day i'll have the michael phelps breakfast! 3 fried egg sandwiches on white, with mayo cheese lettuce tomato and fried onions, 3 french toast with powdered sugar, 5 egg+cheese ommelate, 3 choc-chip pancakes and 2 cups of coffee. mmmmmmm.

aussie, good luck with the group tonight, you seem to be making progress, new potatoes are very good for you, especially with the skin on,  they have lots of vitamins and fibre for healthy digestion, i had some last night (probably too many) at least it wasnt with butter eh??, salmon and new potatoes is a match made in heaven, someday you might have it with hollandaise sauce !!, if it were still jersey royals season (best potato ever) id be eating wayyyy too many at dinner :)

charlieuk your intake looks great, i especially like the mini chocolate "binge"/hit mid day, and the shake with a brioche sounds tasty :)

how come everyone seems to eat their egg yolk?, i know it had the cals and the dietary cholesterol (which isnt linked to blood cholesterol) and the sat fats, but they are tasty and have the vast majority of the vitamins and nutrients in eggs, and they add cals which is what we want right? otherwise do you all just waste your egg yolks? i doubt you're making mayonaise! i never used to like egg yolk as a kid, now i'm on around 2 eggs a day haha.

they took the weights out of my wing chun kwoon (dojo/studio), as theyre moving, so i had to do some different training at home yesterday.

yesterday's dinner cold chicken, salad, new potatoes, mixed bean salad, boiled egg.

then pre bed packed in some nuts, peanut butter, fromage frais, raisins, ham i think too (it was a blur haha)

today@

breakfast guess what...tuna!, porridge/jam

snack, nuts+raisins, ham, pear

lunch, tuna/chili sauce, carrot, tomatoes (from the garden), 2 slices of toast, hummous ( i think i'm going to get magnesium poising or something from all this tuna)

not really counting but the cals to pop in my head when i'm picking foods, i'm like a calorie savant or something, people could just ask me instead of using labels!, it's fairly annoying when my brain evaluates everything, gets me a pretty balanced diet tho. peas out people

with all this talk about bagels i wanted to share something that i thought is quite amusing, once when i was working in london, before my ed had taken hold i ate a light breakfast and lunch but also one day bought and ate 4 seeded bagels :) i was ignorant to the calories, looking back they were gooood, eaten warm dipped in muller light :). this was as well as dinner i guess, but i  just remmeber the 4 bagels for £1

and alysha  your breakfast looks bloody awesome :) ive had porridge/oatmeal with jam or pb never both, i wouldnt add sugar too though :S? 1 tsp of jam makes it sweet enough for me thats with 50g/0.5cup oats and 250ml/1cup skim-milk

snack: toasted roast chicken sandwich with basil and tomato

lunch: hake en papillot,w onion lemon tarragon+ooil, on whole wheat pasta with peas sweetcorn and brocolli.

snack: tuna, pear

snack: sliced ham, wm pitta, hummous, fromage frais, nuts

out of interest, how much do people suggest i eat for maybe maintenance/gains at 6'4''/193cm, 19yo, Male, currently around 154lbs/70kg/11stone

relena, good to see you posting again, and good to hear you're not too much in the danger zone. i know what it's like watching people eat 'normally'' seems like they starve themselves in comparison, no one else seems to get enough cals but still complain about gaining weight (anyone else think this) hah, older people have it tougher though, my mum doesnt really understand too much but she tries.  but i really think eating frequently does a LOT for ones metabolism,

i also understand what you mean about taking a break, try telling your mum that you just want to take it easy and not be so strict about an eating regime!, try to eat when you feel like it, even if you dont gain/lose at least you're listening to what your body wants, i know after/during ED its hard for your body to tell you what it wants and when because its confused from deprivation/overloading.

as i say, just try to do what you feel and dont make everything revolve around food, i find i'm more comfortable eating when i'm hungry as opposed to strictly eating every 2 hours. but from doing the 2 hour thing thats about when i get hungry anyway :)

yesterday

tuna, porridge/honey, orange

2egg, beans,2toast,small apple

tuna, gherkin,pickled onion, jarred pepper,

bowl muesli

roast chicken with peas,sweetcorn,brocolli, stuffing, roast potato, carrots. (i find it hard to know when to stop at sunday lunch, it's so good i dont know if i would just be eating for the sake of it as opposed to hunger, coz i could eat the whole chicken :))

then fromage frais/nuts&raisins mix

today tuna, porridge/plum (i am a broken tuna record)

(might try a vanilla whey+banana milkshake later, maybe with PB in it too :))

the party was good except i felt sick, it was candy themed, and i ate lots of sweets, despite feeling ill, but i did eat more strawberries as they were the only real food really. but trifle, bonbons, and lots of other sugary rubbish too, had to eat something proper when i got home to try settle my stomach, feel a bit better now still a bit iffy.

brekkers: porridge w/skim milk, added some honey at the end :), half a tin of tuna with chili sauce, and an orange, trying not to think too much about eat every 2-3 hours!!! just eat when i'm hungry and do other things so food isnt like what my life is revolving around.

Linny i just mix the vanilla whey with water, then eat the banana hah, i use water as it fuels your muscles quicker than mixed with milk aparently.

agru are you getting a cake? happy birthday, everyone seems to be doing pretty well, sorry to read what relena posted.

to the people going to university/colleges, im going to and im anxious, just in general sometimes it gets me down i just went for a long walk to try sort my head out, it didn't really work but i dunno, maybe i should eat something, dont know like what though, i hope you all continue to gain healthy weight, what are your bmi's like. mines always been above 18 i think but i still looked really think, bags under eyes/weak/my spine still shows on my back which is why i still think i need to gain weight. anyway that's my rant for now. keep on keeping on.

 late night "binge" tiny bit of ice cream, wm pita with hummous, seafood stick, 2 spoons of PB (couldve eaten the whole pot), loads of fromage frais.

lala yeah those peppers or other brands, are lovely, especially in a sandwich, but you have to eat it right away. i'm really bad with salt intake, and i i have prawns/tuna/whey at breakfast for extra protein.

supper was chicken breast baked in a tomato/oregano/garlic/basil sauce w/courgette+mushroom. and porridge with nuts and raisins, (yes i like to have my carbs as a bowl of cereal with meals when i can! coz i love cereal) (pb works better than whole nuts in porridge)

S-3 eggs @ 10:30 ish

went out shopping and didnt have anything to eat til i got back at about 4, apart froma bite of a danish my mum got.

so lunch/dinner was. a tin of tomato soup a tin of tuna (half of which made a sandwich) with 2 sclices wm bread, tomate (from my garden :)) cucumber and half a jarred red pepper.

anyone else like those jarred red peppers in vinegar?

S-tin of beans, i drain of most of the sugary goo (250)

L-~50g muesli,milk, (220) other half of tuna, with cherry toms and red pepper, (80) normandy fat free fromage frais with a chopped comice pear. (180) (480)

S-3 eggs. (240)

S-ham tomato cucumber sandwich on wm bread (200)

D- large chicken breast marinated in Ooil and lemon griddled (250) on a white burger bun (170) with veg (50) (470), then though bloody eat more! for the sake of it, some nuts, finger in the peanut butter (80) and an orange (80)

sooooo.... 2180.. is that enough? who knows... why does knowing you're still not eating enough give some sort of sick self gratification sometimes :(

only really weigh things out of interest (porridge i do because i cant get it right by eye), the muesli was just to see how much i gave myself. thanks for the welcome, i still use the lower cal stuff coz i can cram more in :) im not super underweight but id still like to gain some, the fromage frais is my extra proteiny :) but i totaly get what you're saying, esp with the carbs thing, i used to fear them so much and had no energy, now i love them again. :) off to make a sandwich

i had 2 bowls of pasta last night even though i knew it was lots. it was after a wing chun lesson though.. yes chefs tend to overdo it slightly on the olive oil or other fats, but you have to accept it as part of your diet, and eating out is a treat anyway so try enjoy it, dont worry about the carbos or anything geta a nice tomato and basil or (i dont know if your vegi) a seafood pasta, i pretty much hate all creamy sauces which is good for me i guess. but just enjoy it :).

try to order what you WANT not what you think you SHOULD have. that's what ive been trying to do more and i feel happier with my choices. (my brain is more programmed to choose healthy things anyway so it seems)

I've been following this thread for a while, and i'm a guy who had an ED, 6'4'' and was 10stone 10lbs on scales that seem to weigh you about 4lbs heavier than you are so i can only guess i was more like 10 and a half.

ok so i wasnt too dangerously underweight but i still want to gain.

new scales register me now at just under 11, old ones say 11.3 so ive gained a fair bit since being my lightest.

but im over that ED pretty much, now and have stopped obsessing so much over food, and over training, ive been doing weights and other stuff to try put on some muscle, and i thought id just get in on the foodie action.

what ive had today is.

(trying not to count/weigh out things too much so i can be "normal" again hah.

breakfast = sainsbury's basic muesli 70g? (250) (probably the best one as its got no bloody added sugar for once) with skimmed milk (50) & whey protein shake with water (100).  ~(400)

snack = home grown apple (50)

snack = 2 eggs scrambled with a touch of milk and some ham (190)

lunch = 3 sardines, (200) wm pita (140) salad (30?) (370) pobably more

snack = orange (60)

snack = tin of tuna with some sauce (150)

weight seems to be coming on easy enough, Even though i didnt think i was eating all that much. (some calculators say i need 2600 to maintain without ex)abs seem to be hiding away now though :'(.  wish i could eat even more and get away with it tbh :))),

i look forward to posting and giving what advice i can.
