Weight Loss 1000 calories consumed on my drive in to work! Jun 12 2009

Original Post by mel_e_mel:

Eff it, dude. You worked out, had fun dancing, ate yummy cookies and are going to have a wonderful time tonight! Sounds pretty good to me; I LOVE bhangra dance! And wine. Chalk it up to one day of indulgence and don't do it again tomorrow and the next day :)

alright, its amazing what a few hours of calm, rational thought can do for your outlook - thanks for your replies - i'm going to go ahead and enjoy my din tonight as well as some nice chianti and maybe even dessert - i'm also going to enjoy the weekend because its a freakin camping trip! no time to stress about calories - the occasional weekend indulgence isn't going to kill me! life is not worth living if i'm stressed about some cookies - will i make it a habit? no. absolutely not. this site has been great in helping me maintain a healthy (overall) lifestyle and i wouldn't reverse that for the world - but it is what it is, a moment of weakness, time for me to move on - thanks again!

Weight Loss is this a binge? Jan 06 2009

thanks gi-jane!

i have had problems with low blood sugar in the past, to the point where i was so low that when i replenished sugar levels (with  the wrong types of sugars), i became disoriented and my vision got blurry. that is definitely a very rare occurrence but does show that i should be more weary.

i typically eat very clean - organic foods and have a largely vegetarian, even vegan, diet. however, over the holidays, i've been eating more candy / meat than i am accustomed to and its definitely thrown me off. but this is a wakeup call and the perfect opportunity to return to my normal eating habits.

i'm very surprised by the 2550 calorie calculation! i've been basing my burn on 1650 (sedentary) and adding in exercise - which comes to 2200-2400 typical burn! i welcome the opportunity to eat a little more though - thanks!

ugh, ok so i got home last night and i was still craving sugar after dinner. i had some trader joe's dark chocolate covered edamame (200 calories) and homemade hot cocoa (200 calories). i also missed something in my log so all in all i ate 2700 calories! i exercised for 90 more minutes last night but the burn meter only came out to 2300 calories burned...

thx for the quick reply lalabanana! (as you can see, i was hoping someone would answer so i could respond) - i'm not really sure what my true burn is. i estimate that i do low-impact aerobic exercise, anywhere from 1-2 hours / day but in actuality i do a bollywood dance workout (don't laugh!) with light handweights. i'm 5'8", female and weigh around 133 - but again, i'm prob a bit higher right now post-holiday bloat - thx again!

thanks gi-jane! your posts always act as the voice of reason and i've come to rely heavily on your feedback in these forums.

i should mention that i have upped my exercise knowing that i was a hungry gal this week - i dont think i upped it so much where i'd have deficits everyday but we shall see - i do this bhangara dance workout, slightly modified, and i have NO idea how many calories i actually burn

thanks again!

i've upped it these past couple of weeks and have def gained some but i'm thinking its just water weight - i'll try to be patient!

Weight Loss yes, yet another question about the meters... May 19 2008
20:48 (UTC)

thanks guys! yeah, i wonder if i'm burning more - i do the sarin jain's bhangara workout and she advertises that it burns 500 cals / hour and i use 1 1/2 lb hand weights while i do it - however, i KNOW that i prob don't have the intensity that she does in her workout - i log it as low-impact aerobics which is at 308 cals / hr

if i drop these 5 lbs i would LOVE to eat 2200 to maintain - its really hard for me to limit to 1400-1600 cals a day - i'm starving and end up really obsessing about food - in fact, since i've tried to drop down to that cal intake and have started to track my calories, i've noticed that i binge (whereas i never would have done that before) and have food on the mind constantly

sometimes, i do worry too on the weekends about my behaviour since tracking - while 3 hours exercise may be typical, i've been known to burn 1200-1500 in a day if i feel as though i eat too much - i just need to find a balance where i feel full and comfortable - i don't really enjoy how i feel right now - like i said, tracking cals and making sure i burn enough has become a bit too obsessive for my liking

thx again for the posts! the input and support on this site is great!

Foods Canned or Fresh? May 16 2008

as a rule, fresh veggies are better for you (with the exception of tomatoes which inexplicably are more nutritionally beneficial in canned form). BUT if you're concerned about food costs, I'd say go with frozen. You typically get more in a frozen bag than you would in a can and frozen veggies are on par nutritionally with fresh.

Recipes What should I marinate cod in? Apr 09 2008
20:44 (UTC)

cod can stand up to a lot of different cooking methods. one of my faves is to saute the cod in olive oil for only a couple of minutes (seasoned with s&p) and then remove from the pan. then saute shallots, garlic, and red peppers. next add some canned tomatoes, kalamata olives and capers and add the cod back in with a couple of thin slices of lemon. you can simmer it FOREVER and the cod doesn't get disgustingly overcooked like most fish
