Thanks for the advice, both of you. I ate the rice last night and no sign of food poisoning so far! I'll definitely freeze it next time.

Weight Loss Revenge Weight Loss? Jun 08 2009

Revenge wasn't my reason for beginning my weight loss but it has certainly spurred me on! A few years ago my husband had an affair with a semi-psychotic woman who went out of her way to make my life hell once he came to his senses and called things off with her. The list of things she's done to me and my family is long and horrible but one of the more petty things she used to do was to give me a slow look up and down followed by a smirk/snigger every time she saw me. I was around 265lbs at the time so there's no denying that I was big, but she was far from a healthy weight herself. I changed my eating habits for the usual reasons - health, for the sake of my children etc. but also because my self-confidence had been more or less obliterrated by what happened and all the subsequent abuse and I needed to do something to stop feeling so awful about myself. Now i'm around 180lbs and while i've still got a way to go before i'm at a healthy weight, i'm proud of what i've achieved and as petty as it may sound, it feels fantastic to know that i'm significantly smaller than she is, and she knows it. Cue smugness!

Foods Fiber deductions May 26 2009

Original Post by soph_slump:

I think the calories from fiber are already deducted from most packaged foods in the US, but this is not the case in every other country.

Does anyone know if this is the case in the UK?

Does anyone have an answer to this? I read something similar myself recently and was wondering if there was any truth in it. I eat about 30-35g of fiber a day so should I be deducting 270+ calories from what i've eaten? Because I don't often eat more than my minimum calorie requirements and if i'm down 270cals from where I think I am then my deficit's too high.

I had this happen to me about 5 months ago. It went on for about a month and drove me potty! I read up on it and apparently too much caffeine in your diet can cause it. I used to drink gallons of coffee and sure enough, when I cut back the twitching stopped within a month.Laughing

I sometimes buy the WW ready meals. I keep them in the freezer for those times when the rest of the family is eating food that doesn't fit into my diet or that I can't adapt to it. They're pretty tasty. Smile The bread's okay, though I think most of the reason that it's so low-cal is because the slices are half the size of other bread!

I'd spend the whole 4 months travelling round Canada. I've wanted to go there since I was little. I know people who've been and they only have amazing things to say about the people and places which makes me want to go all the more. One day!

Foods What did you have for your cheat day/last cheat day? Jul 18 2008

I had half of a huge pepperoni pizza last weekend and I thoroughly enjoyed every greasy mouthful! Lord knows how many calories or grams of fat I consumed but I don't feel even slightly guilty. I know that that pizza will curb my cravings for at least the next two months and as a don't cheat on a daily basis I just let myself enjoy it.

Mmm, I love bagels. "The Food Doctor High Bran & Seed" are my favourite. Only about 190 cals each and 8.2g of fibre. I usually top it with cream cheese or houmous (had never eaten houmous before I saw how often it was recommended here and thought i'd try it. Now I can't get enough of it!)

You can already find your calcium intake in the "Analysis". If you move your arrow over to the date below the pie chart in your "Nutrition Report" it will tell you your calcium intake along with a few other useful things.  Smile

Foods Are... May 31 2008
13:59 (UTC)

I read an article recently (can't remember where) which stated that lentils and beans can be counted as a vegetable in your 5 a day, but regardless of the portion size, or how many times a day they're eaten, they should only be counted as 1 of the 5. It was the same for fruit and vegetable juices.

Parsnips, sweet potato, seafood, danish pastries, mango and pineapple. Yuk! I don't mind meat but can't eat it if it's served on the bone *shudders*. And any kind of offal is just vile.

I realise that drinking sugar loaded fizzy drinks is bad for you, but what about the diet versions? Are they so awful? I ask because i'm a bit of a diet coke addict.

And what about "caffeine-free" coke? Surely everything that's bad for you has been removed from the drink. Obviously, it's not as good as drinking water, but is it really so bad?

Weight Loss Sodium Mar 01 2008

My average daily calorie intake is 1400.

My sodium intake has ranged from 7mg to 700mg. I don't keep it low intentionally.

I just had a quick look at the nutrition charts of some of the foods i've eaten and noticed that for a lot of them, there isn't any mention of sodium at all when I know for a fact that that food contains sodium. I think i'll log the foods myself for a few days, rather than rely on CC nutrition charts. It'll be interesting to see how much of a difference it makes!

Thanks for your reply southcarolinaguy.

So is there a minimum amount of sodium that you should have every day? Because my average daily sodium intake is 246mg. Is that too low?

I understand what you're saying ajr9000 - I also have trouble understanding why my body weight would plateau at the weight I am. It makes no sense. I always believed that one of the reasons that the body laid down fat was so that it had a ready supply of fuel when needed. Last week, after 2 weeks of zero weight loss, I joined CC and logged everything I ate so that I could make sure that it wasn't a case of me being completely wrong in my calorie estimates and for that week my calorie intake ranged from 1168 to 1428. I just worked out my Daily Caloric Expenditure and even when I classed my lifestyle as "sedentary" it came back as 2200 per day. That's a large calorie deficit without even adding in any exercise I do, so the fact that I haven't lost weight for weeks makes no sense. Why on Earth would my body go into starvation mode when it has such a vast store of fuel at hand? My butt alone could keep a family going for a week! Aaaargh! It's so confusing.

gi-jane - Thankyou very much for your advice. Even though it doesn't quite make sense to me, i'll do as you say and increase my daily calories. Every time I diet it follows the same pattern - very quick weight loss of 1-2 stone and then I seem to hit a brick wall! I'm clearly doing something wrong, and you obviously know what you're talking about, so i'll give it a go. It'll be tough, though, to get my head around the whole "eat more, lose weight" thing after years of believing the opposite. Plus, i'm not really sure of the best way to go about getting those extra 500-700 calories without stuffing myself or eating non-healthy foods. I never let myself go hungry when I was eating 1200 calories - i'd just make sure I filled myself up with fruit, veg and wholegrains. Maybe my idea of what constitutes "healthy food" is too narrow. Hmmmm.

Thankyou so much for the advice and support guys. I really need it!
