Every time I drink, I get bloated for several days and it seems to slow my metabolism but I have low blood sugar which means my body reacts poorly to processing alcohol.

I always feel back to normal after two days with out a drink though.  Sorry, I'm no scientist; but that's my personal experience.

I can relate and maybe provide some helpful advise as well.  I have 4 kids, and I also have three-year-old twins!  I have a son who is eight and another daughter who is 5.  I know what you are going through.  I was 210 - 220 pounds when I went to the hospital to give birth to the twins.  I am 5 foot 6.  I am currently at 143 but would like to lose that last 10 pounds.

It's rough!  But you can do it.  Just don't starve yourself in the process.  Raising four kids requires a lot of energy.Laughing

I would add you as a buddy but I don't know how.

You need to eat calorie dense food too so you can eat more of it.  Nuts are a healthy calorie dense food and so are avacados.  Of course if you start eating a lot you should be working out probably several times a day for up to 2 hours.  I would suggest weights Monday, Thursday, Friday and light jogging on Tuesday and Wednesday to remain lean while you are gaining.

You should visit the feature on here that tells you how much to eat to achieve your goal weight.

maybe cottage cheese and turkey sausage mixed together with some spinach?  I like cottage cheese used in a savory way instead of mixed with fruit, but you could do that as well.

Yeah, my kids said they would eat it any day over cookies and ice cream.  Plus, it's good for you.

You can also add 1 - 2 tbsps of whipping cream to frozen fruit and blend it into a sorbet.  It would be expecially good with bananas and strawberries.  I made baked apples one day and simmered them in the oven at 350 for about 30 minutes.  I poured about 1/4 inch of fruity herbal tea in the dish and topped them with cinnamon.  This was delicious enough, but the next day I took some of the left over apples and blended it with some frozen rasberries and a little whipping cream and it was wonderful as well.  I did not use any added sweetner but a little splenda might make it even better.

If I'm not sure if it's hunger, I like to make a pot of flavored decaf coffee in the kind of pot that makes four servings and pour most of it into my biggest coffee mug with a 1/4 cup of 2% milk and sweeten it with splenda.  I know it's not super exciting but it can tide you over for a little while.

I like to freeze bananas that are ripe.  Slice them up and put them on a cookie sheet in the freezer for 2-3 hours.  Then blend one banana's worth 1 tbs of peanut butter and 1 tbs of chocolate syrup.  It should turn out thick and creamy like ice cream.  I tastes awesome!

It's true we have lots of good food in Texas, especially Tex-Mex. I have four kids, which you can see from my profile; and they are all below 9 years of age. I have lost at least 70 pounds since the birth of my twins but most of that was over the first year and a half after they were born. I lost about 40 to 60 pounds after having my first two kids as well.

Anyway, I know what you are going through. It is hard to resist temptation. It seems that everyone's left over candy and cake ends up at my house because I have a big family and people think if they don't feed us the junk they don't want we will starve to death. I hate to waste and find myself eating food off my kids plates. Temptation is everywhere. You have to decide that you are too determined to be tempted.

A scale is good, but a tape measure can be an even better indicator of your success. Take your measurements around the hips, waist, and bust weekly.

I think the most important thing is to never give up and plan to make up for mistakes.  So you caved and had a midnight snack...see if you can delay breakfast for an extra hour or two.  Also, you may have total flop days from time to time that may take you a week to recover from.

As long as your goals are realistic -- and they sound like they are -- and as long as you keep at it, you should start seeing a difference soon.

Another thing I'd like to mention is that knowing your weaknesses is a huge step in the right direction.  I am hypoglycemic and thus sugar, alchol, and caffine really have major affects on me.  If diabetes runs in your family, you might consider that you may have blood sugar problems.

I find that frequent high protein meals help as does limiting the offenders listed above.

Those are good tips.  Might I also add that I have noticed eating nothing but fruit in the mornings really helps me stay on track.  It keeps me full and feeling like I've had lots of sweets.

The trick is to keep it convenient and make sure you are well stocked.

Today I've had so much to eat.  When I say eat fruit, I don't mean one banana.

I mean two bananas, two apples, two oranges, 2 cups of strawberries.  This keeps me full until lunch.

Also, I am hypogycemic; and I have not had any sugar crashes since starting my diet.

Knowing that you overeat when you're bored - - that's what I do too - - be prepared and keep your house full of fruits and veggies so when you recognize that it's boredom you can at least eat healthy low cal stuff.

Since I have started making the majority of my diet whole foods I've notice I can eat all day and still lose weight.  I love it because I can eat so much.
