Motivation ugh...don't say you want to change if you don't Nov 19 2009
10:24 (UTC)

Hi Miabel

I completely understand your frustration, and when I read your post, I was nodding!! I get it all the time, and yes I also took some time to get my motivation on track and start loosing weight. I must admit, I am more reserved now with giving advice, in the beginning of the year I had 2 friends who really wanted to loose weight, I helped them with meal plans and excercises, but soon realised they still want to eat pudding for lunch etc etc. I now do what dkenworthy do and only say - burn more calories than what you take in - if their eyes haven't glazed over I will say a bit more about what kind of exercises I do etc etc.

But everyone has to be in the right place to loose weight, some will always find excuses but still ask for our help and I think it is our duty to keep on reminding them that "until they aren't ready to loose weight / make a change for no one else but themselves" they will never change. and that is a fact!!!

Ranting makes me feel better and I have sympathy for your experience - BTW I didn't see it as obnoxious and rude just letting some steam off -

Hedgren, thank you.

I know this can become a bigger problem than it already is, and I'm not going to let that happen.

Right so plan of action - 1600 a day for two weeks (light training), then 1800 for two weeks, then 2000... just looking at this makes me scared but I'm going to try!!!

again thanks for the feedback, just what I needed!!

Thank you everyone for replying, I think I was not eating enough as Hedgren said.

I'm 25 - 163cm - 57kg and I was eating 1400 cals a day...(please don't shout I know this wasn't enough)

I just get so confused with how much I'm actually supposed to eat, there are too many different websites and formulas that keeps on giving me different stats. on website - CC - tells me to eat 1400 to maintain (maybe I'm doing something wrong) another one tells me to eat 1800 and another 2200, so where do I start... I do pick up weight quickly (I was trying to post some photos from 2007 and now but something kept going wrong to show how Ive made progress) and therefore I'm scared of picking weight up again if I eat more - yes it might be psychological I know, but please tell me how do you get over it - I don't want food to be my enemy I love it too much.

thanks and sorry for the whinging....

Weight Loss Emotional Binging? Sep 09 2009
17:07 (UTC)

hi suckafolove, I had something similar with my dad, he had a drinking problem and only ate red meat and bread... and never ate breakfast. So really unhealthy. My mom divorced him because of his drinking habits and my dad and I have a really rocky relationship because of his drinking. He never listened, we begged him to  stop, I never took friends to his house because I was embarrassed, I learned to cook age 11 because I was fed up when visiting him of only eating red meat and bread. - not that he ate what I made he still had his red meat and bread and my brother and I would have veggies and stuff my mom use to make -

anyway, to cut a very long story short, he got very very ill lost 30kgs because, his liver started failing and his body stopped absorbing nutrients from the food, he went to his GP who immediately referred him to a specialist, he then told my dad if he doesn't stop drinking and start eating properly he will die in 3 months.

At last he listened, he doesn't drink anymore and started eating veggies, he is slowly starting to pick up weight and getting better. What I'm trying to say, is sometimes they have to get to the very end before they turn around and realise they still want to enjoy life.

Good luck with everything, I'm thinking of you (I'm also an emotional eater but getting better at it, sometimes I still fall off the wagon, but get back on it the following day , I managed to not feel guilty afterwards anymore)

Enjoy your evening.

Hello everyone!

I saw this thread and decided to join as I need a bit of motivational assistance. I started exercising because I was unhealthy, had a bad skin and just looked awful on photos. I felt uncomfortable in my own skin and didn't feel sexy.

I started exercising in Feb 08 and have lost 15kg and 2 dress sizes. I'm now happy at a UK size 6/8 and now focus sing on building muscle.

I stopped doing cardio - and that was difficult as I was addicted - but it didn't do me any good, I was at a stage where I lost TOM and was so obsessed with counting calories I was driving my husband mad! He made me stop for a whole month and said I should eat what I want when I want.  So I stopped counting for a couple of months and just focused on eating properly, the problem was, I was eating way too much and then went the other way - oh dear - Now, I'm not counting everyday, and focusing on taking in more protein. I'm back to going to the gym 3 to 4 times a week, but seriously lost it last week when I had a whole FAT WEEK! I hate when that happens, I get all motivated and my biggest problem is recovering when I cheated, I can't help but going in to that mood of, oh well I've screwed up today might as well carry on... and that is not right! I know!

So this week I started from scratch, I allow myself nice healthy snacks and have been doing great, taking baby steps again and not going near the scale.

BUT TODAY I'm CRAVING A BIG SLICE OF CHOCOLATE CAKE!!!! So I'm drinking water instead and have a cup of coffee, my colleague just offered me a nectarine - he doesn't understand the cravings of women... bless him!

Anyway, Thanks for reading my post, enjoy the day.

I was eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and my boss asked me: What on earth are you eating? After telling him he pulled a face and said, oh no he'd never be able to eat THAT... after a couple of minutes he admitted that he'd never in his whole life had peanut butter.... how is that possible? Almost 40 and never had peanut butter... ?!

Dear jblarghp

You didn't mention if you were doing any exercise? I currently train 4times a week and my maintenance is between 1800-1900 (5'4" 116 pounds). Yes, you should increase slowly, take it a week at a time, gradually your body will realise that you are giving it what it needs.

Good luck!

Recipes George Forman? Jan 12 2009
22:32 (UTC)

Oh I love my George, it's the best thing ever. I make chicken thighs, drumsticks, pork chops everything on it. The bones don't matter too much, the chicken just take a bit longer but on a low heat 175degrees, it still stays juicy. The best is, that your chicken breasts come out really juicy, pan frying sometimes makes it really dry.

I've made sweet potato drizzled with honey... mmm yummy. toasted sandwiches, you can basically make everything on it and the best thing is - chicken in the oven take more than an hour to get nice and tender, on george it's about 12 minutes for thighs.

Motivation Mini Goals for the month of January. What are yours? Jan 05 2009

My husband and I moved to the UK Sept 07 and I haven't seen my family since, we're going to visit March and I can't wait. I've lost 12kg in total and loads of inches of my waist bum and thighs.

I would however like to loose at least another 2 cm around my bum, and 1 cm around each thigh.

My biggest hurdle is saying no to chocolates..... why o why is it so difficult??!! My husband likes chocolate but can go without it for AGES when I see it, I want it!

So 4 top goals

1. Stop eating chocolates

2. Loose 2 cm around bum, 1cm around each thigh

3. Stick to clean eating plan (1400 - 1600 cals)

4. Stick to 4 workouts per week - have been keeping this one up for nearly a year so put it in as a bonus! Smile

Will keep you posted!

I totally agree livingindubai08, the winter is getting to us, it's cold, miserable and wet and that makes a difference. Why dont' we start a motivation blog and each day log whether you cheated or kept to your plan.

I can start off by saying thank you to m_c_85 for saying the best thing possible, forget about it and start again, don't regret it, and just focus on what you want to do.

I did really well yesterday and am really proud of myself, it really does give you a boost of confidence if you get one day right because then you know you can do it again!

So come on girls, think about the summer and yes imagine it is summer and everyone is in their bikini's.

(You can clearly see I'm more motivated, if you said something like this to me last week I think I would have laughed at you, but lets try, it's all we can do)

Hope to hear from anyone again.

I wish I read this before I went downstairs to the vending machine...

what I wanted - chocolate              &nb sp;  What I ate - chocolate

another 235cal onto my daily allowance, I'm not too far over my limit and I've already counted what I'm having for dinner. But I do have a question, does anyone ever eat a little bit less of something so that they can have chocolate?

I know it's not healthy to do that regularly, but like once in every 2 weeks? and I have my dance class tonight...

I love eating avo, so I would definitely try that, as well as the portions, I would have to make it up at home so that I can't snack on the other portions though... lol. I was told by a friend the otherday that if you are so hungry you can't wait anymore, to have one teaspoon of peanutbutter on a piece of celery... imagine that, i hate celery, but it's quite good.

Juliadil, I think nuts are healthy and I don't think you have a problem or else I would have a problem too... he he he

thanks guys, enjoy your nuts!!!

Went to gym, but oh well, not like it happens every day

Weight Loss Why haven't I lost any weight? Jun 26 2008

Whitney

I feel horrified after reading all your replies on the good posts. This website is the best thing that has ever happened to me . I'm 5,4" and 125llbs, which is a healthy weight. I do still have a couple of pounds that I can get rid off, but I know that it's going to take time.

When I started obsessing about my weight (just like you are doing now) I wanted it off in a month. I tried the 3day diet (DON'T DO IT!!!) and stuck to it for a couple of months. I lost a lot in the first month (from 132LLB to 125LLB) and then stopped completely. Guess what, I started gaining then. Still stuck to the 3day diet, and still gained.

I picked up all the weight that I lost during the 3 day diet, and had to start from scratch... (if only I didn't google for quick fix diets and found this site earlier)

The problem was I was eating less than 1200 per day, I then started getting ill, flu, constantly tired, running out of breath quickly, and getting extreme headaches. I found this website and started reading about the calorie deficit etc (and everything that everyone has told you so far). At first I didn't want to believe it (just like you) and then one day i decided to give it a go.

I'm married and I still enjoy good food (love cooking) and I eat what my husband eat, I just started limiting my calories. Now I'm eating between 1400 - 1500 per day and it is enough to keep me going for the whole day.

I joined a gym and now I'm a gym junkie - I go 4 times a week and I really enjoy it!!! I;m back on 125llbs, but I've lost a lot of inches around my thighs and waist and bum its amazing. I had to get all my new clothes adjusted as it was falling off me.

The bottom line is.... you have to eat more and yes you will most probably gain a bit again - not saying you will gain all of it, especially if you exercise which I didn't at the time. But before you do it, you have to sit down and write down why you want to loose weight... are you doing it for someone else? or for yourself? I don't want to know, but you have to know that you are doing it for yourself and not for anyone else.

These days all you see in the magazines are size 0 models and it's not pretty, there you got it from the horses mouth, that men don't like it when girls are so skinny.

I'm going on about this because like healthybmi said, you listen to the one person that says yes you can eat 1000cals a day, when there are scientific facts about how much cals you need to be able to function.

Please girl if you don't believe anyone on this site, go and see a nutritionist. It has been suggested and then another person will tell you that what you are currently doing is messing your metabolism. I saw changes in my health after 3 months.... you might not but it can happen now or later. All you have to do is start eating more and healthy.

Here is what I had yesterday

Breakfast - Jordans muesli with 2% milk - 292

Snack at 10h00 - 10 fresh cherries - 43

Lunch at 12h30 - wholewheat roll with lettuce, cucumber, lunch meat, and low fat cheese - 440

Snack at 4pm - 2 carrots and a banana plus one block of chocolate

dinner at 8pm - lean steak, with boiled potato and steamed vegetables - 466

Also went to the gym for an hour after work that is a total of 1452 cals for the day.

You don't have to eat that much, but you have to eat a variety, get protein, carbs, natural sugars etc. and you are allowed something nice every now and then.

I'll stop now, and if you want to talk just shout please

see ya

Funny enough my husband and I had this conversation over the weekend. Men expect women to stay like the are, and the moment they pick up weight they go to find another person. But what about them??? Do they make an effort to stay as they are.... not all of them.

I agree, confront him, that's the only way that you will be able to feel better about it. He has NO right to say that about you.. NO RIGHT!!!! My parents ( and I know it's not the same) use to tell me I'm fat etc and I need to loose weight (I'm only 125pounds - the most i've been was 130pds) I felt that I wanted to loose weight, but I never did, because I didn't want to do it for myself, I wanted to do it for them, and it actually made me pick up more weight because I kept on thinking how awful I am and that made me depressed and that made me eat more.

So, be brave, talk to him, and sort this out, before it turns even more ugly and everyone on this website comes and slap him.... Smile

Best of luck

Perhaps my stats can be a bit of a motivator....

November 2007 was my turning point, I decided that I should loose the extra kilos that I've been carrying along with me.

I went on the "wonderful" internet and looked for diets as I didn't want to joint the gym just yet, I found a thing called the 3 day diet, it is sooooo hard and you really starve yourself but none the less stayed on it - didn't know any better - lost 5kg in a matter of a month. I then went on holiday.

Didn't stay on the diet in December and was so fed up with eating nothing, but yet, I started it again in January.

I completely stopped loosing weight, I went on the internet again and found CC where I read the forums and realised that my body was in Starvation mode.

I then changed my eating habits by eating more calories and more times a day and I also joined the gym, I excersize 4 times a week - weight training 3 times a week and extensive cardio once a week.

II still weight myself once a week but the scale says that I've only lost another 2 kilos since January. My husband told me to start measuring myself and did that for the first time 18 February. Last night he measured me again, and guess what?!

According to the scale I'm the same as what I was 3 weeks ago, but according the the measurements, I've lost 5cm around my waist - lovehandle area- and 2 cm around my bum....

I realised that the scale is only a measuring tool. But the proof is in the clothes I wear, and the people that see me.

Bottom line - hang in there, and don't only use the scale, get a tape measurer and start measuring. you are bound to notice a difference.

Hi there

I've read that going below the 1200 calorie mark is approaching a danger zone. Don't know if this is your case, but maybe your body is in starvation mode and keeping in everything you eat.

Remember you need a certain amount of calories to actually live. so if you eat less than that you body is going to keep it all in. I'm not that great with maths but if your body needs more than 800 calories to live you need to eat more healthy calories in order to loose more weight. - Please anyone correct me if I'm wrong.

You also didn't mention how much you actually weigh, if your approaching your 3rd attach of anorexia is it really wise to eat so little calories.?

Perhaps consult a dietitian if you feel that you don't have any luck

Good luck.
